Count Me In The Guiliani Camp (Debbie Schlussel: He Has The Cojones TO Fight Islamofascism Alert)
Debbie Schlussel.com ^ | 08/15/2006 | Debbie Schlussel

Every day, I'm asked whom I'm supporting for President in 2008. I've looked over the potential candidates, and on the Republican side, I believe the best, by far, is Rudy Giuliani, who took the first step toward a run, yesterday, with an exploratory committee.

(On the Democratic side, the best guy who's been talked about as a Presidential contender is Senator Evan Bayh from Indiana, who truly understands the Islamic threat and is a more moderate Democrat--which is why he'll never get the nomination.)

Yes, I'm pro-life and against gay rights, where Giuliani shares neither of my views on these issues. But, to me, the terrorism issue is far more important, #1 on the list. Right now, we have a President who is pro-life, against gay rights, and pretends to be the "Counterterrorism Prez." But, actually, he's done nothing substantive on any of these issues.

Rudy Giuliani: Then-NYC Mayor Had Guts to Stop Yasser Arafat's Stateside Escapades

So, I'll take the guy who I know will have the guts to do what Bush does not. I believe Giuliani is that man. He's proven that time and again, whether it was when he told terror-supporting Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal to take his $10 million and shove it (right after 9/11) or when he severely restricted Yasser Arafat's travel in New York (kicking him out of a concert).

A man who will do those things vs. Bush PC on Islam is the man we need to run this country. He's probably also the man who can handle the illegal alien problem and actually see to it that something is done about it. Not sure on his position on guest workers, but we'll soon enough find out.

It will be a difficult matter for a pro-choice, pro-gay rights candidate (and, again, I oppose Giuliani on these issues) to get the GOP nomination. We'll see.

So for those who want to know who I'm supporting for Prez, I say, "Viva Rudy." America's Mayor has what it takes to be America's President.

Gutsy Giuliani Tells Saudi Prince Alwaleed Where to Go

Could be. But guess what, there will probably be one or two seats on the USSC opening up in the next 6 years. He'll have to make appointments. We know where that can lead.

WOT is number one. Judicial appointments is number two, and that is inseparably linked to values.

If he tries to fight a strong WOT but has to work against the ACLU and a judiciary that the ACLU approves, it'll be almost impossible to win, and many Americans will die as a result of our hamstrung offensive.

You can always find a "yes but" reason not to support a candidate. The fact of the matter is the President has three chief duties: commander-in-chief, enforce the laws Congress passes (for those of you who seem confused on this point, the President does not actually pass laws) and nominate judges. In these three issues Rudy is by far be the best.

You think abortion should be illegal? No president can do anything about abortion until Roe is overturned because it would be "unconstitutional" according to Roe. The ONLY thing a President can do to end abortion is appoint judges who think roe should be overruled. Well Rudy is for strict constructionist judges; therefore his personal views on abortion are irrelevant. Any strict constructionist judge would be against Roe v. Wade because it's legal arguments are crap. There is no debating this. The are pro-choice legal scholars who think Roe should be overturned because it is so offensive to the Constitution. The Constitution says nothing about abortion. Since the federal government is one of limited powers, that means abortion is an issue for the states, since any power not mentioned in the Constitution belongs to the states. This rational applies

He is for states rights and for judges who actually read what the constitution says and not what they wish it said. Because of this fact, his personal opinions on social issues should not matter in his qualifications for president. They would matter if he was running for Congress or a governorship, but he is not.

Rudy is the man. He has my vote.

We need to stand up and be Proud of how We tried to save Terri from that wretched so-called husband that tried to murder her the first time and eventually over years accomplished his awful goal and the Demorats cheered him on. When you have parents begging to care for their child and the Courts dismiss their pleas and all compassion, Our Society is decaying quickly, noting the POS We have for a so called Senator wrought by this last Election.

I think if Rudy was the nominee, that would give us NY. The good NY, not the Hillary NY.

Cal and the leftists would have a hard time beating that, esp considering that even though this last election seemed like a bath for the pubbies, it was really alot, alot closer than most realize. They won alot of races, but it was razor thin.

I am in agreement with her, our most imminent threat today is terrorism. I am pro-life and for the family as far as it goes, but we are being threatened in every corner of the world today.

Your request has not fallen on deaf ears. Even though I prefer Rudy to any candidate right now I am more than willing to give everyone a chance to state their case why they should be president. Duncan Hunter will get a close look by me.

But she is wonderful at handling the media too. She takes no hostages. Remember her most recent confrontation with that "Wolf" on CNN?

Yes, I do. One can tell a lot about a man by the woman he marries. Dick Cheney must be quite a man.

However if at the end of that process Rudy does emerge as the winner, I hope that no one here will sit at home on Election Day, particularly if Hillary is the Democrat nominee (as seems likely). The stakes are much too high.

Maybe not stay home but a few of the Rudy haters have said they will vote for Hillary or the Dem. Sad!

Thank you. You know this is a wonderful time to SPEAK.. to dialog... to examine new candidates. I guarantee there will be at least 4 or 5 new ones in 5 months from now. If nothing else, let's pretend we had the power to actually choose the Republican nominee!... We have very talented people... WHERE ARE THEY???? I ask :)

This a call to duty to all Republicans :)

"I am in agreement with her, our most imminent threat today is terrorism."

Fine, but isn't our greatest deficiency in the WOT our media? Under Hillary it would encourage the people to support the war. It would support any steps taken in it's prosecution.

So by her standard the best candidate is Hillary.

Fighting a war while the people are demoralized by it's own media is extremely unwise.

If domestic issues don't matter, Hillary is the best choice. (and look at all the money we'll save on elections!)

The whole "abortion issue" has been so muddied ,so demagogued, so either/or, has proven so politically useful to Lefty candidates, is so much more given over to heat rather than light, ( and that is just how the Left wants it) that I would be satisfied with someone who just came out and rather than futilely "labelling" himself as one thing or another ("pro-choice" or "pro-life") would simply state the obvious: that the most IMPORTANT thing for our political life would just be to put a DIALOG on this issue at the forefront, an ACTIVE dialog, nation-wide, which would involve both sides AND the middle, both agendas and the "agenda-less". That would automatically put a moratorium on the perceived "threats" coming from one side or the other, and the relentless demagoguing of this issue would be put on the back burner in deference to a discussion of the real human ramifications of the existing laws surrounding and defining the issue.I know this sort of thing "has already gone on for some time", and that with the media firmly in the camp of the Libs, it is not easy, but I am talking about the usefullness of a serious CANDIDATE making this a priority in his Administration.
This would imply the active restoration of grass-roots citizen input into the daily life of politics. A truly radical idea, and one that can ONLY come from the Right.
The status-quo belongs to the Left, even though they always see themselves as the heroically , doggedly determined minority fighting for the rights of the little guy, put upon and beleagured by the heartless money- and God-grubbers on the Right.
Because, believe me, there is no issue both so barren and so "pregnant" with meaning at the same time in American political life. One thing that could be discussed, for openers, harkening back to a very active thread a few weeks ago, is the embryonic stem cell research movement and how it ties in which the "abortion rights" interests.
We discuss these things with much seriousness and gravity of purpose, but the moment our political reps try to, they get drowned out, demagogued out of existence (literally, as happened to Santorum). What we need here is a sense that not ALL political decisions in this country of ours are NOT decided by the political class, and all the issues do not rise and fall depending on their short-term usefulness to said political class.

IF Rudy Giuliani is the candidate in '08, there will be no need to sell terrorism as a top issue. Most people who see his face think instantly of one thing: 9/11. He will need make no reminders. And, as much as people want to forget, they simply can't.

Giuliani, as a New York Italian-American, took on the mob and won. The Gotti's are gone as an effective mafia family.

He took on the porn merchants at Times Square and won. Instead of dozens of XXXX shops, at the very heart of Times Square is a Toys R Us!

He took on the entrenched NYC bureaucracies and won. His personal involvement in NYPD reduced crime over 50%.

He cleaned up a city that had been written off as hopeless.

He is the Islamofascists, and their supporters', worst nightmare. I kinda like that.

What I can't understand is why he has any appeal at all to conservatives.

I'm conservative. I'm not stupid.

The WOT is by far the most important issue for the country. Of the candidates who can defeat Hillary (or whoever the Dems put up), Rudy is by far the best candidate to lead the fight.

McKook will destroy the GOP. I am not convinced that Romney can win. I know Rudy can.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that there is a HUGE number of women in America who would vote Republican EXCEPT for the Republican's position on abortion.

The single most divisive issue in America today.
