The biggest problem a candidate like Giuliani would face in 2008 is getting support from those 90% of the voters who don't see the "war on terror" as a key issue anymore.

Two years is a long time when you have crazy men who hate us in control of nuclear arms.

gnats huh?

I hope you are right.

However, if you hear nutmenajob's own words, not the one's filtered by ABCNBCCBSCNN, he is talking about an Apocalypse, and by the way, he just so happens to be building nuclear weapons. His first target will be Israel. Then he will topple moderate states within the region, controlling 3/4 of the world's oil supply.

Well, everytime I get on a plane I think about terrorism, and I fly frequently. I lived 45 mis. from NYC on 9/11/01 and I will NEVER forget the genuine fear and sleepless nights I had back then, nor the "stop the heartbeat for a second" after planes were back in the skies over our area. My stepson's best friend's recollections of watching 3 people holding hands jumping out of the WTC bldg next to his bldg., I am all for conservative values too but idealism will not keep the terrorists from striking us on our own shores. I saw a lot of muslims and their women in veils and burquas in the Manchester,England airport in September of this year. We cannot continue to be demoralized AND bury our heads in the sand just because hillary may pass through national healthcare IF she is elected.

I refuse to support a man who condones murder.

The issue is very muddied for some but is very simple for me, to agree with the law of the land that permits the killing of the innocent unborn living human beings is morally bankrupt and thus a positive forward moral initiative can not be achieved. Although I believe there should be a good debate on how best to set the country forward the time for debate on moral beliefs is long over and that will be made loud and clear in the next elections if the GOP doesn't have a candidate that can at least be pro-life (anti-abortion) and a strong leader in the War on Terror. Bottom line as my pastor said last Sunday,"we will not give up our children to the devil!" and to me not being both as described is doing exactly what that does. Rudy may be a good person but I can't morally vote for someone that can't respect God's gift of life especially in its most innocent stage of life.

That is all well and good but the fact is Nutjob does not control all terrorists or even most so blasting Tehran would not cause them to pause. (Don't take that as meaning we shouldn't blast it.)

Decentralized terror cannot be addressed as if we were fighting armies supplied by factories and a big supply chain. Comparing Japan and Iraq just does not work.

Reality is what conservatives face. Now do you really think that Hillry and her campaign arm MSM is not going to ridicule Rudy to the point of him having the personification of being more liberal than she?

How good it is to have concensus on a matter of such gravity. :-)

Read posts 116 and 184 if you have not already.

If Rudy would appoint strict constructionists to the courts, his personal views re: abortion are irrelevant and the overturning of Roe would put the issue back where it belongs at the state level.

If Rudy is the candidate and you do not vote for him, you ain't gonna get the same shot at helping the issue you feel so passionately about from a Democrat. Appoint a few more liberal judges with a 'living, breathing' document persuasion and Roe will be the law of the land for the foreseeable future.

"No, thank you. I would like a conservative for president."
Yeah, well " People in hell want Ice water".
I think this will be about give and take....

The post was not about settling for a lesser of evils, but getting excited about the man despite his glaring failures. The time to make that kind of a pitch is after the primaries. At this point of the game, there are still a good majority of conservatives in the Republican Party, enough that we can nominate one of our own.

"Dick Cheney must be quite a man."

I have always thought highly of Dick Cheney; in fact for me, it was when George W. Bush chose him to be his VP that he secured my vote! Over the years, Dick Cheney has taken such incredible amounts of bologna from the left. He always conducts himself with the upmost scholarship and dignity; always knows how to handle himself in any given setting. He is both politically and socially astute. If you listen to him and watch him, you will inevitably see a man at peace with himself and his convictions. He is as solid as a rock! And I certainly hope nothing ever happens to him; especially now!

Gotta admit, a candidates preferred status on FR isn't worth much, nor does it tell us much about how they would fare in general election.

FR-Preferred candidates lost a lot in 2006, to their eternal befuddlement.

This is the type of thing that the John B. Anderson people said in 1980.

However, I will be happy to root for Giuliani and Hillary if it would ensure their defeat.

Giuliani had his chance to take out the Hildebeast in 2000. A perfect storm of personal and health problems (the personal ones brought upon by himself) made him bow out and we had to settle for Lazio, who was not ready for prime time.

I'm really not interested in having to choose the "lesser of two evils" when it comes to moral values and especially the subject of abortion. The GOP has plenty of time to find someone that will be as strong as some proclaim Rudy would be with the War on Terror and someone that has moral values with regards to abortion. This national abortion rights issue has been a nightmare for our country for 30+ years now and it's long past time it ended. We should not have to accept moral bankruptcy in our leaders because it's all we have. Every time an abortion issue has become a state issue it gets creamed by some FEDERAL activist judge and even our Supreme Court has not been very favorable to state's rights so I'm just not ready to proclaim Rudy free and clear of the issue.
