Well, Drudge does but he would never admit it. He gets tons of leads from here, as does Fox News and MSNBC (Rita Cosby).

"Allen's already in the lead and is going to win. Why risk it by appearing desperate?"

Because this will knock Jim Webb out of Virginia politics forever. He couldn't get elected dog-catcher in this state now.

Every writer relies on personal experience when writing a novel...
---
But not everything in any novel is from the author's personal experience.

I'm pretty sure Tom Clancy never crashed a jetliner into the Capitol. I think it would have been in the papers.

Allen isn't "exposing" anything if these are all published works....... the real question is why has the MSM treated Webb with kid gloves? (of course we all know the answer)

Any Republican candidate who had published even ONE of these passages, never mind such an enormous wagonload of bull feces, would have been raked over the coals so thoroughly his candidacy would never have gotten off the ground.

Sure, these are "novels" (so to speak, they sound utterly wretched) and Webb can claim they are merely fictional concoctions not reflective of any actual view he holds...... but if indeed none of his "novels" show much of anything of merit and lots of abuse of women, demeaning and degrading stereotypes, etc. etc. even Democrat halfwits ought to get the idea that maybe this guy doesn't respect women, revels in the the degradation of children, etc.

Because just like the donks used Foley to hurt the GOP's momentum, vice a versa can occur here and this freak Webb has a serious screw loose and should be exposed. He is more of a predator than Foley.

Why would describing Webb's own writings be considered "going into the gutter"? Isn't Webb proud of what he has written?

What's amazing are the DU posts. Anyone posting that they have misgivings about what he wrote is being accused of being a troll. I think the days to come will be especially interesting: we'll get to see just how strong a stomach for depravity Dems truly have as the SF wackos attempt to hold the rest in line.

"What about Chuck Schumer, the head of the DNC Senatorial Committee?"

Yeah! Him too!!!

All the Dems are tarred by this outrage (except the gay crowd - they like it).

My only question is how could Webb allow Rove to ghost-write his book? Webb must have known better.

There is MUCH worse stuff going around about Jim Webb - real stuff, not just words in a novel. Suffice it to say he has a "Clinton problem."

Does he have a bent crank also?

re: Foley

The MSM just spent a good month telling us that the people had a right to know.

You think they will stick to that mantra or do an about face?

Ever read any of Webb's books?

Have you heard about the speech alleged to have been given by George Smathers in the democratic primary in Florida in 1950?

Time Magazine reported that Smathers said: "Are you aware that Claude Pepper is known all over Washington as a shameless extrovert? Not only that, but this man is reliably reported to practice nepotism with his sister-in-law, and he has a sister who was once a thespian in wicked New York. Worst of all, it is an established fact that Mr. Pepper before his marriage habitually practiced celibacy."

After listening to Hannity's "Man on the Street" segment this past afternoon, I can see how Smathers's tactic might have worked.

I think this (your statement pasted below) states the matter exceptionally well - I don't read much contemporary fiction, but I sure missed the moment when child pornography became some necessary part of novel-writing. [and I certainly missed it in Tolstoy, Dickens, Jane Austen, et al......] Just let Mr. Webb try to explain his more prurient "interests" to the good voters of VA....

"I personally think it's not that strong an issue, BUT go ahead and explain to the average mom that it's ok to write about child sex, and go ahead and explain why he wrote it, and go ahead and explain why you can't write a good book without something like that, and go ahead and explain why he wanted to write that. Go ahead and explain it, because it is impossible to explain to the average person."

This is a dumb move on Allen's part.

I disagree. Obviously Webb would promote a number of issues, or stand for them, that many voters would find repellent, literary freedom, included.

Perhaps Webb might also think such books should be stocked in school libraries? Public libraries.

No, I think Webb should just come up front and say he enjoys writing like this. It's just "art", something he does when he's not politicking. lol. It's just about "art". What, everyone's gonna be a prude if they object to his "it's just art"? lol.
