Fads run their course. They also fail to mention that Pentecostalism is the denomination within Christianity with the highest dropout rate. It would seem that you can only play pretend for so long before reality once again sets in.

A new 10-nation survey of Pentecostal and charismatic Christians, considered the fastest-growing stream of Christianity worldwide, shows they are deeply influencing the Roman Catholic and mainstream Protestant churches and are poised to make a big impact on global affairs.

The furious assault on Osteen, Warren, and others makes the boldface passages that which really frightens the mainstream.

I think Catholics on the whole because of our structure got what was best out of this movement.

However I think Evanglicals and Protestants are now just waking up to the danger this movement is to the faith. The problem is that many Pentecostls cannot be even classified as Christians because of their views on the Trinity. When that gets blurry Doctine starts to go to hell in a hand basket

This is not a "fad." Pentecostal and charismatic Christians have been influencing those in the RCC and elsewhere for decades at least.

While there is some oddity in these denominations, and some false doctrine in some congregations, for the most part it's my understanding that they're biblically sound.

The great Puritan Jonathan Edwards, I suppose, could be considered a pastor of one of these holy roller churches, so I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss them as heretical (though, of course, the RCC does consider them anathema)....

I've listened to some Pentacostal preachin'. While I like its livelyness and position on issues, its hard for me to listen to it when it turns anti-Catholic, as it does at times.

If they ain't too busy compelling women to using oatmeal boxes for hair curlers, and harping on passages that are largely used for relegating women to the back of the ecclesiastical bus, then they might actually get taken serious by intelligent people some day.

Don't count on that happening anytime soon.

Many are doctrinally, rather scripturally correct, but in other ways, there is little distinction b/n them and the Taliban.

That is, they read the words, but do not heed them.

Repeating words is not exactly the same as understanding them and practicing what they mean.

These movements are powerful as they provide what pious Christians want and no longer receive from the mainstream denominations - a concentration on prayer, a personal relationship with God, a belief in the saving Grace of Christ as the centerpoint and focus of their religious life.

Thus contrasts with the politically correct tolerance for social and moral abberrations mixed with leftist politics which has grown to permeate the mainstrean Christian churchs and infect the heretical doctrinal rubbish a lot of them have been spewing. I hesitate to employ the term heretical as heresy is a mild description. It applies more to people who have religious beleifs in conflict with traditional ones. In recent days, mainstream churches preach a kind of politically correct pablum of universal tolerance that in effect is anti-Judaeo-Christian and hyper-humanist.
