Clinton, bin Laden, Wag The Dog and Fox News
self | 9/24/2006 | Technomage

Posted on 09/24/2006 9:03:18 AM PDT by technomage

After reading parts of the FoxNews Sunday transcript of the interview between Wallace and Clinton, something stuck out to me.

Clinton keeps claiming that 'right wing conservatives' were constantly complaining that he was too obsessed with bin Laden. I have mentioned previous that I have no memories of that happening. What I do remember is conservatives in general complaining about his obsession with Monica.

But, getting back to that claim that conservatives were complaining that Clinton was too obsessed with bin Laden.

After watching the rant, oops, interview, Clinton slipped up. He showed his cards by uttering three little words: wag the dog.

It was like a light bulb going off in my head.

Now it made sense. Clinton is once again 'mixing' historical events to conform to what he wants the world to remember.

Conservatives did use the wag the dog reference numerous times, not in reference to bin Laden, but in reference to Clinton's massive bombardment of Serbia, which had absolutely nothing to do with bin Laden.

Clinton, in the interview basically says, and I paraphrase:

conservatives were complaining that I was obsessed with bin Laden, you know the wag the dog references.

THAT is the statement that shows that either Clinton is having memory problems and mixing up events, or is lying.

All the wag the dog references in the 90's had nothing to do with bin Laden, but had everything to do with Serbia and Milosevic, as far as my meager memory serves. I may be wrong, and I may be unaware of statements to the contrary but as far as I can remember, all those references were regarding Milosevic and Serbia.

Claiming that 'right wing conservatives' were complaining that Clinton was obsessed with bin Laden is an outright lie. But to try and prove it by using the wag the dog reference was a stupid move on his part and illuminated his lack of facts to back it up. And in my view, invalidated the rest of the rant, er interview.

I recall that any time Clinton would lob a few bombs any place, some FReeper would mention Wag the Dog. Not just about Serbia.

You've got it right and the contention of the initial post is (partly) wrong.

I applaud the poster for catching Clinton's defensive use of the "wag the dog" line. But the context wasn't the bombing of Serbia. Clinton bombed Sudan and Afghanistan just 3 days after his grand jury testimony and admission to the affair with Lewinsky. [When he was reportedly "sleeping on the sofa" at the family vacation home on Martha's Vineyard----gee! Suddenly he needs to get back to Washington fast so he can bomb Sudan!] There were charges of wag the dog, not because his opponents didn't think he should do anything about al queda. Their question was "why now?" after years of doing nothing? And the attacks seemed unserious.

This is from Wikipedia:

"Over the course of 1998 and early 1999, as the scandal dominated American politics, the US engaged in three military options: Operation Desert Fox, a three-day bombing campaign in Iraq that took place as the U.S. House of Representatives debated articles of impeachment against Clinton; Operation Infinite Reach, a pair of missile strikes against suspected terrorist targets in Sudan and Afghanistan just three days after Clinton admitted in a nationally televised address that he had an inappropriate relationship with Lewinsky; and Operation Allied Force, a months-long NATO bombing campaign against Serbia that began just weeks after Clinton was acquitted in his Senate impeachment trial."

The Serbia campaign was March-June, 1999---long after the media had declared Clinton the "victor" in the impeachement battle. He may have had ulterior motives for the Serb bombing, but I think it had more to do with AVOIDING using ground forces.

The wag the dog issues surrounded both the missile strike against Iraq and the aspirin factory bombing.

You are not totally wrong. I do not believe the name bin Laden was widely known. The generalization was islamic terrorists. While the name bin Laden was widely circulated inside government the general public was not really informed. The early criticism of Clinton's use of missiles by the GOP was that they were "pinpricks" in the words of Gingrich. But in the first days after the attacks, both Trent Lott and Gingrich were firmly in support of Clinton's policy.

Now, let me think about this for awhile - memory problems or lying? Gee, I'm not sure...

Chris sure is on to something, isn't he!

Revisionist history is a classic Communist tactic.

Thank you. I've been stating that Billy Jeff is a narcissist for some time now. It's nice to see someone else see the same thing I did. The diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder for Hillary is right on too. I know all those psych classes would come in handy.

Oh, come on. Clinton's just trying to save his friends in 'Publik Edjumakashun' the future expense of having to edit and re-print millions of History books. You know, the ones that our kids have been indoctrinated with during the past decade, declaring that Clinton was 'The Best President Ever.'

Yeesh. What a pathetic, pathalogical liar this guy is. Keep talkin', Slick! Keep wagging your finger in peoples faces! I love it when you show us your slimey underbelly you sad, delusional old horndog.

Slick is a very clever, sly lying sack of sh*t. He was trying to fool gullible people into believing that he was all over Bin Laden during his presidency when in fact he was not.

Yep. He is wagging his "dog" again right now. The only question is, will the sycophant media and lib public "lap it up" as usual?

We conservatives have NOT forgotten what he was obsessed with back then.

the correct email address for response to Bubba's tirade is

weekendlive@foxnews.com

Here's my contribution: "Dear Mr. Wilson: Bubba unleashed.

I'll bet he got taken to the woodshed when he got home!

Obviously, he has not yet learned the meaning of "is". He was having too much fun being "the most powerful man in the world" - to whom none dared say "NO!." He conducted his administration like a never-ending frat party...and didn't want to have his fun sidetracked with serious issues that would actually interfere with his personal agenda. It seemed the only time he ever took action was when he needed a media-blitz to drown out his shenanigans. He needs to accept - but he's incapable of accepting - that his "legend" is already set and he can nothing to change it...except, perhaps, to educate the younger generation that may not be aware of just how scandalous his administration was and how much we are paying for it now. I doubt, after this uncontrolled outburst, that he will be let out alone for some time.

With this display at the same time that Hillary made her very strange rationalization against school vouchers with the example that parents - who are citizens of the U.S. - who might want a voucher to send their children to "jihard school", they are showing their true faces. (Is she saying that there are 'jihard schools' in the U.S.? I think this is a question she needs to answer. Sincerely,"

Clinton keeps claiming that 'right wing conservatives' were constantly complaining that he was too obsessed with bin Laden.

Wallace should have asked Clinton for names - or quotes or something. It's obvious Clinton was "mixing it up" to his advantage.

Didn't conservatives object to him bombing some tents in the desert that coincided with the Monica news coming out? If memory serves, the camp had been deserted several weeks before - common knowledge - and he bombed it anyway - as a distraction.

Good point. Maybe we need to amend the constitution. "While serving as President, a person must engage in only marital sexual relations." Stay outta the interns.

It makes as much sense as can be made from anything the self absorbed, self hating left does. The irony about the Serbia stuff is that Clinton was helping the wrong side... the Muslims. So, how would helping the Muslims be doing anything to help with the Bin Ladin situation?

Ok, now I need to put on my tin hat. What if Bin Ladin coerced Clinton into helping Islam in order to not attack us for a little while? nah, not even Belzebubba would cut a deal with the devil.

Bin Laden wasn’t even a household name at the time.

This is just Bill’s sorry attempt to reinvent history.

Consider this point. To you and I, BinLaden wasn't a housoehold name -- but to Clinton -- it was. Clinton knew a lot more than we did. ANd he did nothing about it.

That is why Clinton is so upset. He knews he didn't do the right thing. Now he has told the Nation that he knew the worst about BinLaden, yet didn't put a priority on getting rid of him.

That is going to be Clinton's legacy and Clinton knows it and it is killing him!
