A ONE-HOUR interview with US news "queen" Barbara Walters will be a cleansing experience for Steve Irwin's widow Terri, a close friend of her husband has said.
Mrs Irwin and her eight-year-old daughter Bindi are due to talk to Barbara Walters in Brisbane for a one-hour special to be aired on America's ABC television network next Wednesday.
Ms Walters is reported to have arrived in Brisbane this morning.
Channel 9 will also broadcast "an exclusive Australian interview" by Ray Martin with Mrs Irwin and Bindi next Wednesday.
Mr Irwin's long-time friend and manager John Stainton today said the interviews would help Mrs Irwin grieve.
She has yet to speak publicly about the death of her husband.
"Talking to someone totally outside is probably a good thing because when you're with just family members and the same people every day, you need that fresh voice to say well `tell us about this, let's relive this again'," he said.
"That's going to be hard, but it's also sometimes a cleansing thing as well to get something out there and off your chest.
"Terri is a good speaker. I think she'll be really strong, she'll hold up really well."

If Terri is up to it, more power to her. I might watch the interview as well even if I have to cringe every time BaBa utters a word.
Yeah...I will mute her...besides my TV has closed captioning..
I can't stand to hear Baba question people she emotes way too much.
Oh, I wish it was anyone other than Walters. She's so very insincere and artificial, the aussies will see straight through her...
Much appreciated.
I doesn't matter who does it. Just that she gets to say her peace and it will help her in her grieving process. I know speaking out helped me in my time of grieving.
God Bless the Irwins, and Comfort them with His Grace.
Bawa Wawa going do interview with Terri Irwin
POOR Terri
That was very well put...couldn't have said it better myself.
In fact, my first thought when I read the article was what the date was she was going to interview her...to see if it was during a "sweeps" month...THAT is how much respect I have for BABA.
I don't understand why Terri is doing this. She has been too broken up to speak about Steve anywhere. I am afraid she will break down on TV, and I don't know how healing that will be. I hope she wasn't talked into it by Stainton. I don't like him as well as Wess and am wondering if he is trying to take control of things in Steve's place.
I don't think John would do that. (I HOPE not anyway) He loved Steve and his family. Steve surrounded himself with wonderful people, so it seemed. I think Terri knows she has to address the public sooner or later. She has to know that everyone wants to hear from her. He may just be giving her options on how to go about doing it.
Thank goodness Terri has Wes, Brian and the whole Australia Zoo crew that is like a family and she can count on to help her keep it the way it needs to be kept.
You gotta be kidding me!!! The guy is barely buried and she`s going to do a interview with this ratings whore?
Thanks for the ping.
I won't comment on the date, interviewer, etc because if Terri feels it's ok to do this that's good enough for me. Doesn't need to be politicized and picked apart.
I hope Terri is up to this. I'm really concerned about her. Even more since the memorial. I can still see that look of devastation on her face, even with the sunglasses.
I know she will protect Bindi with a passion. If BaBa WaWa steps over the line, I know that interview will end. And the sound of regret will be heard throughout the land.
I just hope Terri's ready. God bless her.
Thanks for the ping!
I saw the announcement when Barbara made it on the View. Right off the bat, I had such a bad feeling about Barbara doing this because of the way she worded it. Her words were, "I'm going to go to Brisbane, Australia, to do an interview with Terri Irwin and with their little girl, Bindi...The little boy is too young," Walters announced today.
It was the *way* she said it that made me think, "Ick!"
It's well-known because Barbara has stated herself that she doesn't like other people's children, for starters. Secondly, Barbara has enough of a generation gap with young children and babies that I always feel uncomfortable watching her trying to interview them. To me, she has a knack for saying the oddest things to children -- like Martha Stewart does. Neither can even relate to children and I've seen both make reference to children being brats. (Martha more than Babs, but anyway...)
I think that what this has to do with is that most likely Barbara jumped on the horn to her people to phone Stainton or Animal Planet saying that Babs would donate some huge dollar amount to Steve's charities if she were granted the first interview...*knowing* that Terri wouldn't want to turn down that amount of money if it was going to help Steve's mission.
Some of the Australian press has been reporting the tackiness of ABC for doing this so soon, but by the time the press had word of it, the contracts were probably signed.
I promise that if Barbara does or says anything out of line to either Terri or Bindi, I will boycott her to her end.
If hundreds of millions of people the world over are grieving Steve's passing, it is not even possible to imagine or measure the pain that the Irwins are feeling. It just can't be understood.
