Irwin TV chat will be 'cleansing'
Herald Sun ^ | 22 September 2006 | Roberta Mancuso

A ONE-HOUR interview with US news "queen" Barbara Walters will be a cleansing experience for Steve Irwin's widow Terri, a close friend of her husband has said.

Mrs Irwin and her eight-year-old daughter Bindi are due to talk to Barbara Walters in Brisbane for a one-hour special to be aired on America's ABC television network next Wednesday.

Ms Walters is reported to have arrived in Brisbane this morning.

Channel 9 will also broadcast "an exclusive Australian interview" by Ray Martin with Mrs Irwin and Bindi next Wednesday.

Mr Irwin's long-time friend and manager John Stainton today said the interviews would help Mrs Irwin grieve.

She has yet to speak publicly about the death of her husband.

"Talking to someone totally outside is probably a good thing because when you're with just family members and the same people every day, you need that fresh voice to say well `tell us about this, let's relive this again'," he said.

"That's going to be hard, but it's also sometimes a cleansing thing as well to get something out there and off your chest.

"Terri is a good speaker. I think she'll be really strong, she'll hold up really well."

As if they haven't been through enough! Now, Barbara Walters!!! Someone should show a bit of compassion!

Hopefully, for Barbara's sake, Mr. Irwin has been interred. She could be in real danger of being mistaken for an embalmed corpse.

Hey she is being compassionate. She's not bringing her barking/talking dawg Rosie.

Hopefully this is a prime time special and not part of the View. I don't like Barbara Walters, but adding in Rosi O' Donnell and Joy Behar would be torture.

I know, don't we have any other choices besides Baba WaWa? Who else could do this?

Maybe Barbara gets eaten by a crock and this turns out more interesting?

Barbara Wa-Wa will stoop to any level to get cheap ratings. She just needs to shut up and stay out of Australia, unless, of course, she is planning on seeing Steve's crocs up close and very personal...

I don't know...I wish I knew if his wife REALLY wants to do this right now...or feels "pressured" by well meaning friends, public relations people or whoever.

I guess I shouldn't be opinionated one way or another...it is Mrs. Irwin's decision, IMHO.

I just know that the "drama queen" will EMOTE do much that is will be sickening..and you KNOW she will be all about getting her to cry.

That is Baba's goal in her interviews..and she will ask some of the most personal questions to illicit that response..I get too uncomfortable and can't watch it.

SOOOOOOO..I will not watch probably.

Baba Wawa should go visit the monkeys while she is at the zoo.

I feel really guilty, but I want to hear from Terri. (in her own time of course) I can't explain it. It is not morbid curiosity, I genuinely care about Terri and the kids.

I feel so terribly bad that she has lost her absolute soulmate. She will never be able to fill the void she will now have for the rest of her life.

I guess I just want to know she will be ok.

Ha, "arrived in Brisbane this morning," the story says. The one US article I found said that Barbara Walters "announced" on The View that she was going to the memorial.

Looks like she missed it by a day! They probably wouldn't give her any of the precious tickets! Ha!

Anyway, I have been trying to pin down the timing on her one-hour special in the US, but all I found was that one US story that said it would be Wednesday *night.*

Our local listings only show "Dancing with the Stars," "Lost" and "Men in Trees" as the shows next Wednesday night, 9/27. Yikes, is that horrid Anne Heche thing (the last one) really one whole hour long?

Hopefully, it will be "Men in Trees" (appropriately enough for a bushman, lol!) that gets axed for the night. The 9PM (Central) slot is when her PrimeTime show usually airs, except not on that night (she doesn't do it regularly anymore, anyway).

But, with Bindi on and with so many children everywhere sure to tune in, perhaps they will go for the hour-earlier slot at 8PM (Central).

I'm guessing it will pre-empt either "Lost" or that Tree thing, either 8PM or 9PM, Central. Adjust accordingly in other time zones, until I can pin this down.

I really can't see Terri begging for a Walters interview. I'll bet they chased after her to get it.

I would also like to hear from her...I saw pictures of her at the memorial service, sitting with her sunglasses on...and watching Bindi reading her thoughts about her father...

Brought tears to my eyes..and such awe that they seem to be doing so well..

Like I said...if she is okay with it..fine. I am just not sure I can wade through Baba to see it. I guess I could mute Baba..and just put up the sound when Terri talks..

I might just do that.

Baba WaWa may be a barking moonbat, but even she isn't dumb enough to try to make an 8-yo child, who just lost her much-loved Daddy, cry.

I think it's a little too soon to be coming out in public. That's just me of course.
