LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Huckabee, who successfully pushed for a statewide workplace smoking ban earlier this year, predicted Wednesday that cigarettes eventually won't be sold because of their health risks."I think the day will come when we probably won't" sell cigarettes, Huckabee said on his monthly call-in radio show. "If cigarettes were introduced to the marketplace today, they wouldn't be sold. They'd never make it because what we didn't know when they were first created, sold and marketed is just how deadly harmful they were."
Huckabee was responding to a caller's question of why cigarettes are allowed to be sold if they are so harmful. The governor fielded complaints from at least two callers about the state smoking ban, which went into effect July 21.

What do you expect from a reformed Fatty??? HE has been on a campaign against Tobacco as well as food for the last few years.... getting more and more focused on it as he has lost weight (110 lbs).
I guess the revenue (taxes) that would be lost from the ending of tobacco sales would be made up with grants from the Feds for the NWOT (New War on Tobacco).
I wish you would write a book. So many smokers claim that they cannot go the time it takes to eat a meal without a smoke.
To me - I think it is rude to smoke around other people who choose not to smoke (regardless of our point of view on the claimed health-related problems tied to second hand smoke). Just shows how much of a grip tobacco has on a person when they cannot go for a meal without smoking....
Good thought!. The government is liable for taxing tobacco and not prohibiting its sale. The day will come when sick people will sue the government instead of the tobacco companies.
LOL.
" It's nice not to have to go into a bar and come out smelling like an ashtray"
Nobody's ever prevented the establishment of bars with no smoking allowed.
Excellent, jung Herr.
Specifically, he did not explain why cigarettes continue to be sold. If they are that dangerous, it would justify banning their sale instantly. Of course, it would require more than merely opinion or anecdotal science or polls to prove scientifically that the danger is real.
To others, that is. Danger to oneself has never been nor should be prohibited by government.
The argument that the "state" ends up paying for poor choices by individuals is the most egregious legally imposed fraud in history. The most notorious red herring in ever. Nobody asked the state to do that. It was done specifically to manufacture the argument.
Things do change.
No they're not.
But I personally choose them over this:
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences." -- C. S. Lewis
Let's not forget radios. Time spent changing stations, switching cd's, etc.
Instead, all vehicles could have a non stop loop of "the road to wellness, comrades" playing at all times the motor is running.
The other side of the coin: the moral busibodies go apoplectic if anyone suggests smoking only restaurants. They insist on going where they they can live their drama queen fantasies. Who's more insane?
Well let's see, while under the influence of marijuana, most people are of no use to anybody but themselves. While most smokers I know can carry on a intellegent coversation even with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth
BTW: Much of the anti-smoking movement is nothing more than spiteful reciprication by the pro-drug legalization crowd. Who, in reality, don't want tobacco banned, or smokers to quit They just want cigarettes to be put in the same category as "recreational" drugs. They believe that once this happens, smokers will have no choice but to either quit or become pro-drug legalization, swelling the ranks of the pro-drug movement.
Earth To Gov.Huckabee,Cigarettes Will Still Be Sold; The Government Will NO Longer Prosper As A Result!!!!!!!!!!!
And Alcohol?
Stoner's are never angry because they are busy trying to find something to eat.
