You are correct, the Israeli want the Hezzies to hole up in seige locations, and will send ocassional arty in to make them keep their heads down and dig deeper.

The advance forces will control the roads and trails used by the hezzies from constantly stop and move choke points.

This is sophisticated strategy. When the knesset gives the OK to annex the areas, then there will be a few days of allowing the Hezzies to high tail it to Syria, and then the IDF will move in with its heavy equipment such as tanks , and flame throwers, and the seige positions will be eliminated wholesale.

Any peace keepers, who now presume they will occupy the whole of Southern Lebanon are merely dreaming. They will only have posts in the northern cease fire line with Lebabnono, codependant on the iDF and along the border with Syria, or not at all.

Lebanon is about to lose its Southern Lands unless they return all prisoners , and guarantee the end of Hezbollah re-armament with a verifiable scheme for doing so directly with the IDF as an occupation force. If not, over the next few weeks they will lose that territory.

You're probably right about Bibbi. Thanks for the news. I hope they can stop any more arms coming in from Iran and Syria. However, it might not matter since they have had years to stock pile those underground bunkers.

Speaking of the underground bunkers - why were they allowed to be built in the first place. Surely someone was monitoring the Hezbull's activity in Lebanon???

Lebanon couldn't make that stick, the UN couldn't make that stick, France or Russia sure isn't going to make that stick, it is simple, either Israel makes Hezbollah stop, or else Hezbollah will continue.

I agree, and from what I have seen this morning, Israel wants an International Force on the border.

If true, do you think Israel should trust this force?

Won't they just protect Hezbollah and allow arms to flow?

A reasonable expectation. But it appears that the store wasn't being minded very well, doesn't it?

In the future, if there is a futue, I certainly hope this has been a good learning experience the intel groups.

You could be talking about MY family, too, you know. I'm pretty sure my mother had ADD, as did my older brother and myself.

I married a man who also has ADD, as did his father, most of my husband's siblings, and many cousins. My son is ADD and my youngest daughter is considered borderline.

Being in our family is fun - we're extremely verbal, and we're also pretty funny, so we laugh a lot.

However, we suck at math. And every month there's at least one utility that's about to get shut off because we forgot to pay it. (The kids think that's normal, BTW!)

We're night owls, so we look like the neighborhood crack dealers with our comings and goings at all hours.

Some might say we're dysfunctional, but we are what we are, and it could be worse....we could be boring!

A senior Foreign Ministry official said Israel will not demand the immediate disarmament of Hizbullah in the framework of a ceasefire agreement.

This will be widely viewed as a sign of weakness on the part of the Israelis. That will be the view of Hezbollah, Syria, Iran and the Free Republic. And it will be a correct view.

I believe that Olmert feels hamstrung by Iranian and Syrian rockets pointed at Dimona and other Israeli nuclear facilities.

He does not seem to understand that this is precisely what Iran and Syria are trying to accomplish.

There comes a time when a society or culture has to plant its feet and draw a line in the sand, saying, "this is our boundary and we will defend it to the last man".

I believe Israel is at that point right now, and Olmert either does not have the smarts to realize it, or the stones to face it.

Yet.

Leaders grow in wartime, but Olmert's time is runing out.

Not because the US will step aside and force a cease fire, but because Muslim strength in supporting Hezbollah, and indirectly Iran and Syria, is increasing exponentially, because the Muslims have been starved for a victory since 1947, and the current situation gives every indication of being that victory for Islam.

they are waiting for orders, a crackdown of the leadership may destroy Hezbollah."

Jeffers wrote

"Is there a command and control system at the tactical level? These guys are told to sit in a room and wait till the Israelis show up. I don't see any way inside that particular decision making cycle."

My answer:
That is correct with respect to the terrorists sitting in the room(s), but I was thinking about those firing missiles, they do not have a pre-dtermined plan, but get their information through a command chain (perhaps using cellular phones)

in the article they said:
"We have specific orders. Even when we fire rockets we know when and where to fire and each of the men manning the launchers runs to a specific hiding place after firing the rockets."

But I do not think that they have a plan for the next 100 days, it must be done on orders sent a few hours before launch.

Yes, UNIFIL was but apparently they just were 'holding coats' while Hezbullah built up its weapons cache.

ROS, perhaps this official is simply dancing around the principal that if the Hezzies are eliminated then disarmament is not an issue.

Of course, I did not see or hear the statement, but one can hope.

"perhaps using cellular phones"

Cell phones are the best thing the Israeli's could ask for. They are easy to monitor and perhaps that is how Israel is able to give a warning to suspected targets. Who knows, perhaps NSA is intercepting and relaying the info.

Heard Bibi on CNN. The anchor was trying to get him to criticize Olmert and (unlike our ditzy dimcrats) Bibi said he was not going to say anything negative during a war.

That is a subtle observation, one I missed.

However, if I were running hezbollah, my C&C would operate in button down mode, as long as underlings received regularly spaced orders, then higher authority is clearly holding the button down, and must be obeyed.

When the button is no longer held down, i.e. if higher command is incapacitated or prevented from communicating, then C&C would devolve to the highest order still active on the C&C network, whatever systems are in use.

It can't hurt to negate Hezbollah C&C, we are agreed on that score, but priority one has to be rocket suppression, with all else subordinate in tasking priorities. If neutralizing certain orders of Hezbollah command and above achieves this, all fine and well. If not, additional efforts are required.
