"Hizballah web site updates, 01 August 2006"
SNIPPET - QUOTE: SUMMARY OF THE DAY'S CHANGES [01 AUGUST 2006]: The newest site of Hizballah is now hosted entirely in Canada, while the active domains pointing to the site are all registered with a US firm. al-Manar has returned to India, yet again, after being summarily booted from a datacenter in the USA. We've done our best to update all the relevant posts. 22 Hizballah domains are currently active, either with content of their own, drawing content from other domains or forwarding visitors to domains with content. The vast majority of the service providers involved are American. Canada runs a distant second, while India brings up the rear (albeit with a site of great significance).

Iranian officer: Hezbollah has a commando naval unit
By Ali Nourizadeh
At the beginning of the Iran-Iraq war, when the general command of Irans armed forces decided to create elite units for irregular combat, Ayatollah Khomeini appointed Mostafa Chamran, then assistant defense minister and head of military operations against Peshmerga fighters in Iranian Kurdistan...
He has spent many years in Lebanon and contributed to the creation of the Amal movement with Imam Moussa Sadr, so he knows how to wage a guerilla war behind enemy lines, was how the Supreme leader described Chamran to the commander of the ground forces at the time, Qassem Ali Zahirnejad.
Responsibility for guerrilla warfare training soon fell on the Revolutionary Guards. Fighters from Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq and other Arab countries attended military training camps and learnt guerrilla tactics to confront a regular army. They also underwent explosive training and were taught how to hijack planes and bomb military and economic installations.
Many Hezbollah members who are currently confronting Israels military might have attended these exclusive camps in Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad and Ahvaz.
According to a senior officer in the Revolutionary Guards, who himself trained Hezbollah's navy units, the Party of God still has a number of surprises for the Israelis. The bombing of an Israeli navy vessel with two C802 missiles, with the assistance of Revolutionary Guards commanders present in Lebanon, was not a direct confrontation. Hezbollah, he said, has a submarine unit and a navy commando unit that operates Chinese-manufactured speed boats, capable of targeting the Israeli navy.
With the assistance of several Iranian engineers and technicians, as well as North Korean experts, who traveled to Lebanon disguised as servants for the Iranian embassy and its officers, Hezbollah has successfully built a 25km long underground belt, with 12-meter openings along it, the officer added. Every four openings are connected to one another through an easily accessible passageway.
In addition, Members of the Revolutionary Guards built warehouses in the Bekaa Valley containing huge amounts of rockets and ammunition, at a depth of no more than 8 meters. A central operation room is also located in the Bekaa Valley and is overseen by four Iranian officers and four Hezbollah fighters. Additional command and operation rooms are located across Lebanon.
Hezbollah has three missile units, which includes some 200 technicians and experts trained in Iran, that are supervised by a 20-strong committee

Suitcase bomb found in German train
1 August 2006
DORTMUND, GERMANY - A bomb has been found aboard a German train, with prosecutors saying Tuesday, the morning after it was discovered, that it had been powerful enough to maim or even kill.
Bomb-disposal specialists disabled the device Monday evening in the main railway station in the western German city of Dortmund.
"The contents were capable of severely injuring or even killing people," said prosecutor Ina Holznagel.
The device included a canister of propane gas, a timer and wires.

Godzilla thoughts
Things happen quickly. Major air mobile operation by Israel into Baalbek, IDF slugging their way into Lebanon, significant rumor from Yoni that IDF will strike Syria within 24 hours.
24-hour forecast
See above. Expect things to change very quickly as the situation will become very fluid.
Cease Fire Front
U.K., Czech Republic & Germany rejected an EU draft calling for immediate cease-fire in Lebanon conflict. This is remarkable that there is still tacit approval for Israel to go forward with its war on Hezbollah inspite of the Qana episode.
Syria Military
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told the Syrian military on Monday to raise its readiness, pledging not to abandon support for Lebanese resistance against Israel. However, it has already been pointed out that the increase in readiness has already been underway for over a week now.
It is also becoming clearer that Syria is directly assisting Hezbollah by smuggle weapons and rockets. An associated parallel is the RUMINT that an Israeli UAV was shot down over the weekend by Syria AAA, even though it was flying in Lebanese airspace. UAVs have been used to identify and target these smuggling convoys for IAF and artillery.
Rocket Attacks
Hezbollah has resumed the bombardments. .
Group Identified
A group claiming to operate out of Syria took credit today for what it said was an attack against Israeli troops operating near the Syria-Israel border, according to a source in Syrian President Bashar Assad's Ba'ath party. However this attack failed.
IDF Ground Offensive See earlier SITREP
Stratfor generally agrees with my initial SITREP
http://news.google.com/news?svnum=10&hl=en&ned=us&ie=ISO-8859-1&scoring=d&q=%22Special+Report%3A+The+Ground+Offensive%22+source%3Astratfor
Initial reports indicate that the ground offensive has kicked off at least in the eastern portions of Lebanon. News reports IDF soldiers have been fighting pitched battles with enemy forces in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon since the early hours of Tuesday. It is reported that up to 10 - 20,000 Israeli Troops have pushed into Lebanon.
Knesset Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee approves call-up of another 3 divisions. Foreign Minister Livni has stated that there is no time limit on IDF operation, though some officers have given a range of 2 to 6 weeks to accomplish the mission.
Helicopters reportedly landed Israeli soldiers on hills near the northeastern Lebanese town of Baalbek, a Hezbollah stronghold, on Tuesday, Lebanese security sources said. This is a very bold, daring move placing light infantry that far behind the lines. They can stir up a lot of trouble back there, especially with IAF dominance of the air to provide CAS as needed. Makes me rethink the plan of attack.
RUMINT
Yoni has stated that Syria will be hit soon
http://www.yonitheblogger.com/
I'm hangin' on to my hat - it's gonna be a bumpy ride!
Thank you, Godzilla.
I just may have to pop some corn for tonight. Could get very interesting.
Pray for Israel.
THANK YOU Godzilla for that summary.
Baalbek! Does this by any chance mean on Baal's back?
Sounds like the celebrations were premature again. :(
To what level? Airstrikes only or artillery and maybe some troops on the ground? What would be the goal? Disable ability to send fighters across the border? Hard to see how this would be accomplished in an aerial or arty campaign, only. If boots hit Syrian soil, then what would be the liklihood of a real coalition of Arab nations rising to join the fray, including the Saudi's? What are the capabilities of Syria...especially in light of the very real possibility that THEY were the recipients of the Iraqi WMD's? Would they be willing to use them? Do they know how to use them without having a large portion of their own population contaminated? Thanks, 'Zilla. Great analysis as usual.
I can only speculate. It may be that Syrian AAA is helping to deter IAF interdiction of resupply convoys from Syria. A limited strike may be enough to ruffle feathers, but avoid drastic expansion of the conflict. The level of Yoni's sources is unknown. He has been fairly close in describing events, but at this stage of the expanded conflict one can only guess.
