Editorial: Kerry takes up the Swift Boat charges Raised Eyebrow Alert)
Minneapolis Star/Tribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 6/03/06 | Editorial Opinion

Most of the controversies from the wild 2004 presidential campaign have long been forgotten. But one is coming back, the New York Times reported this week, and we're glad it is: Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic nominee for president, is joining an effort to debunk the many attacks on his service in Vietnam more than two decades earlier.

Kerry is a holder of three purple hearts, a bronze star and a silver star, all awarded in a four-month stint aboard Navy swift boats in Vietnam's Mekong delta.

Did Kerry serve in VN? Wow, I didn't know that.

No kidding. I'm surprised he never mentioned it.

Notice the editorial said that there are "researchers pouring over naval records"....

I wonder if these are records that the Swifties had any access to?

If Tim Russert had any integrity, he would be all over this.

Kerry promised him he would sign the form 180, never did and Russert has yet to follow up.

But they have no problem attacking the swifties.

Why does Kerry keep bringing this up? The fact is, he was one of the more notable Vietnam War protestors. Most of the Democrat politicians of his generation were Vietnam War protestors, including the Clintons. He'd be better off giving it a rest.

Steve ---I'd like your comment on this:

I have wondered why leftwing Minnesota elected a wrestler as governor

and then elected Coleman over Mondale.

I was told the following:

There is a lot of unhappiness in the area because people from the deepest slums of Chicago were moved into Mineapolis--St.Paul and as a result the city(ies) was destroyed as compared to what it once was.

Anything to this?

My late Father, who was the most decent and honorable man that I've ever known, said back in the early 70's that John Kerry should have been tried for treason. My Father served honorably in the Navy during WWII. My opinion of that POS Kerry hasn't changed in 35 years.

Kerry is a busy boy....

I read that he is planning on introducing a bill next week, calling for all of our troops to be out of Iraq by the end of this year.

I am sure he has the Marines in Haditha convicted already as well, and will USE it like Murtha is, to justify his cut and run, scaredy cat legislation.

Apparently he won 3 Purple Hearts, too. He's quite reticent about it, so not surprising that you didn't know.

I have wondered why leftwing Minnesota elected a wrestler as governor... and then elected Coleman over Mondale.

Well, I'm not from Minnesota, but I'm sure I can answer at least the second half of your question.

They elected Coleman because of the Dimocrats' absolutely disgraceful behavior at the memorial service for Senator Paul Wellstone, the incumbent liberal who now-Senator Coleman was facing.

It was a big, televised event, and the asswipes in the crowd (egged on by Senator Wellstone's children, among others) turned the whole thing into a huge stick-it-to-the-Republicans campaign rally. Activities included booing Senator Lott (then the Majority Leader of the Senate) and a couple of other Republicans out of the building.

The next morning, Governor Ventura called the Dims disgusting on national TV, and apparently the voters agreed.

It was a huge deal. With the sentimental feelings over Wellstone (undeserved, but heh...), a generally well-regarded Walter Mondale ready to step into the wings... well, the Dims should have had that race in a walk (no disrespect to Senator Coleman). But, hell no, they just HAD to make asses of themselves. Thank goodness for that.

sign Form 180 and release ALL his military records to the public. ALL of them

Bingo! That's the only way to end it, John Effing Kerry. But he's probably had some insiders destroy the good stuff.

I think he served in Iraq (both) and Afghanistan, too. And Granada. Somalia! Bosnia! Where else? Oh, yeah. He was in both towers on 911.

LOL...You're right. I heard he volunteered for Korea too but his mom wouldn't sign for him because he was only seven.

In my opinion the Wellstone "funeral," with all the lefty HATE presented

was the START of the now raging aggressive, shove-the lefty-crap-in-your-face stance by the leftwing and their "news" media .

They were too dumb to notice it didn't work

and think if they do more and more of the same they will get their desired goal.

STUPID people.

Eventually, and bizarrely, people were arguing about whether Kerry took his boat into Cambodia on one occasion. To us the story sounded quite plausible (a number of Americans made clandestine trips into Cambodia during that time), as well as irrelevant to the campaign.

The fact is he made it a campaign issue, not those who questioned it. It's important because it goes to his integrity. And his claim most assuredly is false.

I was in SOG during that time. All cross border operations were under the command and control of the US Army MACV-SOG. No boats were utilized after the early 1960s for insertions into Cambodia. If he went into Cambodia, he would have done so as part of an operation conducted by Command and Control South (CCS). He would have required a top secret clearance, his weapons and boat would have had all traces of identification removed, and he would have had orders from CCS through MACV-SOG to the Naval Commander in the AO, and down to Kerry. He would have known what his mission was and where he was going. I don't believe him, and hope he tries to prove it.

I understand his latest rendition of the "facts" proves that his Christmas trip into Cambodia took place in February. Of course the memory of the enemy singing Christmas carols was "seared" into his brain. I think his brain was seared on more occasions than this one.
