Editorial: Kerry takes up the Swift Boat charges Raised Eyebrow Alert)
Minneapolis Star/Tribune (aka The Red Star) ^ | 6/03/06 | Editorial Opinion

Most of the controversies from the wild 2004 presidential campaign have long been forgotten. But one is coming back, the New York Times reported this week, and we're glad it is: Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic nominee for president, is joining an effort to debunk the many attacks on his service in Vietnam more than two decades earlier.

Kerry is a holder of three purple hearts, a bronze star and a silver star, all awarded in a four-month stint aboard Navy swift boats in Vietnam's Mekong delta.

I did a search and didn't see this story posted.

I guess this doesn't surprise me. The editorial board of the Red Star was among one of the more rabid defenders of Kerry's war record and the attacks inflicted upon him during the campaign.

Opinions or comments - anyone?

Hey Feverishly Leftist Star "editors", Have your "hero" sign Form 180 and release ALL his military records to the public. ALL of them, not just the air brushed few he has made public to date

Ketchup Boy should admit that he brought it on himself with the "band of brothers" and "reporting for duty" stunts, among many others, and then just shut the hell up about it.

By the Red Star running that editorial, it of course opens the door for some nice Letters To The Editor....a la Johnnie's post #3.

I doubt Kerry is really asking his entire naval file to be released. I remember an earlier story about Kerry finally releasing his whole file and before he did, he asked researchers to comb through and airbrush (my phrase) many of the sleazy, irresponsible things that were done during his 4 month tenure in Vietnam

It is nice to know that the Swiftboats can illicit such a reaction from the gigolo, however. Anyone remember how his voice shook when he referred to those guys during the 2004 election (snicker)?

Well there were people at his hearing, including paper pushers to administer his dishonorable discharge. Things have a way of getting out, the older people get... Someday they may sing and write books about it.

Is he going to release his diary also? The one written in 1972 and used in his book. I remember reading that when John Edwards was selected as his running mate, Edwards was told to steer clear of the diary, because in it, Kerry had stated he met Vietnamese "terrorists" in Paris -- terrorists not being a good description to use in the 2004 election.

Kerry will be meat for the barbeque in 2008 as well.

In his own words, "Bring it on."

As for me, I'm just another Vietnam vet "reporting for duty" on seeking the truth behind this incredible phony.

The only difference between John Kerry and his more recent 'clone' Jesse Macbeth is that Kerry made it out of 'basic training' and actually spent a little time in a war zone.

Beyond that, they are both America haters who lie about their own military exploits, and lie about widespread atrocities by American troops.

They fake documents in an attempt to fool the ignorant about their so-called wounds and heroism; and verbally attack those that point out the truth about them.

Oh, I guess I gotta give Kerry credit for being more erudite and not stuttering, as well as being more successful at fooling more people for a much longer time.

Kerry is the best the leftwing can come up with for their "war hero."

Kerry and Murtha.

The leftwingers' Audie Murphy and Sgt. York.

LOL

Reprising a campaign tactic that had worked well against Sen. John McCain in 2000 and Sen. Max Cleland in 2002, White House political strategist Karl Rove went straight at Kerry's most significant strength: his war record.

Karl Rove did that? What an evil genius! /sarc

http://mpls.startribune.com/dynamic/feedback/form.php

There is the Link, below my letter.

To the Editors:

If Senator Kerry wants to end the whispering about his Military service, he can simply sign Form 180. Form 180 gives the Military legal authority to release all the Senator's Military records to the Public. So far the Senator has refused to do this. What the Senator is claiming as his "Military Records" are merely carefully selected PR pieces, not his full record. IF the Star Tribune Editors are seriously interested in the truth, they should be urging the Senator to sign form 180.

>>all awarded in a four-month stint

I just bought a download of Unfit for Command and put it on my mp3 player to listen to (figured I'd "read" it sooner or later). One hour into the 6 hr file...really good and I do believe O'Neill and Corsi, not Kerry. Four month stint? Yes,
but one month was training! Kerry enlisted in Navy RESERVE,
not Navy; he tried to get an assignment where he'd be safe
and once things started to get hairy, oh look, I got a scratch. Can I get me a Purple Heart here?

When the Swift Boat charges came out, Kerry could have defended himself against them and made a strong case, if
he were indeed right. He did not, either because a) he
knew deep down people would see through him, or b)he figured the MSM would ignore them or denounce the Swifties as
crackpots (which a lot of the MSM did indeed do).

There was even a book out called Unfit Commander: Texans for the Truth Take On Bush, with a similar-looking cover. But Publishers Weekly said of that tome: "However, readers may balk at wading through old government documents, some of them indecipherable, that don’t offer new revelations. Ultimately, Smith lacks a smoking gun and, coming on the heels of the ONeill/Corsi book, this effort carries the taint of election year oneupmanship." Which it was;
ignore Kerry, folks, and focus on that eeeeeeeeeeevil W.

Needless to say there are moonbat recommendations for THAT one: "i don't like bush at all, and i don't like the way he makes texans look; even though he isn't really a texan, he was born in conneticut. do yourself a favor, and buy this book."

And another: "During the Vietnam War, John F. Kerry bravely performed his patriotic duty and risked his life in combat. During the same war, George Bush took the cowardly route and went AWOL from the Air National Guard for nearly a year. Glenn W. Smith's eye opening UNFIT COMMANDER provides full documented evidence, including over 250 pages of service records, that exposes the whole, shocking truth about Dumbya's shameful military "career". Smith provides a richly detailed introduction and commentary, plus an extensive appendix, that puts the sordid tale into proper perspective. Smith even addresses the recent CBS memo "controversy" and how Republicans used the media to promote that ridiculous sham of a news story in order to divert the populace from the truth about the president's cowardly past. UNFIT COMMANDER is a well researched and important historical document. Any remaining undecided voters out there should read it ASAP."
