A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Who doesn’t love the warmer weather of spring, new flowers, and foliage on the trees. Spring also brings the promise of new life. Sometimes right in our backyards.

The courtship between birds is intriguing to witness.

Have you ever seen a pair of birds flying gracefully, soaring and gliding through the air together? This is an example of courtship. Love is definitely in the air.

Below is a pair of Swallows

There are birds that actually do a bobbing, weaving or jumping dance for their mate. A funny sight to see is how the male Morning Dove chasing after the female, as she runs away from him.

Many male birds will feed the female while courting. I find it so sweet. Below is a picture of a male House Finch feeding his mate. On the right, a shot of Northern Cardinals.

There are birds that sing their hearts out, like the Mockingbird does. What a joy to listen to a Mockingbird while he performs a repertoire of songs of so many other song birds. :)

Although the Mockingbird will sing for hours to woo his mate, it is usually the unmated Mocker who will sing the most hoping to meet his mate. Sometimes you will even hear him sing in the middle of the night. Click for Short clip of Northern Mockingbird song

Who nests in your yard? The clever birds nest in so many places. Wreaths, planters, porches, in shrubs, birdhouses and more. If you have watched a nest, you have seen that the parent birds work long damanding hours to try to ensure success of their offsprings.

Below: A Robin on eggs in their nest. A House Wren going into the house. The Male Wren will build several nests, and the female will chose the one she likes best.

Beautiful Thread, (((((Gee Bee))))), just Lovely in Every Way. I Especially Loved the Swallows you Featured, because there is a Pair of Barn Swallows Nesting on my Porch! The Husband-Bird, "Napolean," Sits on an Old Barbed-Wire Fence a Few Feet from the Nest, Keeping Guard Over his Wife, "Josephine," as she Sits Upon her Eggs. They are Using Last Year's Nest, from which a Pair of Swallows Raised a Beautiful Group of Little Birds. I still have the Picture I Took of the Last Fledgling to Leave the Nest Last Season, and he is a Cute Little Thing. I Hope this Pair of Barn Swallows has Good Success with their Family! Here is a Picture of an Adult Barn Swallow I Found on the Net:

GEEEBEEEE!!! What a beautiful thread! I am so sorry that I was on the road and didn't get to respond early.

We had this little baby mourning dove fall out of his nest at our house. We tried to put him back but he just kept falling out. We decided to leave him on the ground in our grass to see what would happen. His Momma came to be with him and feed him for about 4 days. He then disappeared. Someone said he looked like he was just about ready to fly, so I am hoping that's what happened to him.

Birds are amazing. They're smart enough to build a nest for their young before they're born! (unlike some people)

Hi Luv!
I miss you. I hope you are having a wonderful time. I'm glad to hear you saw mama feeding this one. The bird probably got too large for the nest and then eventually flew off. :)
Hugs!
