I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
I realize that, but it is much more secure than the southern border. We did stop a threat from Canada during the Millenium runup. An alert US customs official in Washington State spotted something peculiar and nabbed the terrorist. Still, we are working with Canadian law enforcement and intelligence authorities. We don't have to worry about a massive influx of Canadians entering the country for jobs.
In Canada the emphasis should be more on intelligence to stop terrorists from entering Canada and then the US. We don't need physical barriers to do that. Different threat, different solution.
"Depressing defeatist as usual...when will you learn."
I will learn when I stop being right.
My track record over the past 20 years has been spooky.
Let's pray there is a concerted drive to stop his bid for the WH. In my most delusional dreams I couldn't imagine that rino creep as POTUS.
"Silver lining: lots more Catholics."
"Tarnish on the silver lining: they'll be Democrats."
Metal polish: they'll drag the party to the right on abortion and family issues, even though they'll remain firmly socialist in their economics.
Bushbot here. Just in case you missed me.
One more time: It was a citizenship amnesty. It bypassed existing quotas. There was no getting in the back of the line.
Of course it was a long drawn out process, but that is what the green card-to-citizenship process normally is.
You're using semantics, or you're just rationalizing away the truth.
The November election will be driven by Ahmadinejad, as he purposely forces the US to act within an election year. Thus, the immigration issue will pale in comparison to the attempts at dragging us into Armagedden.
The 9/11 jihadists were illegals.
Bushbot here. Just in case you missed me.
Thanks for self-identifying. Makes life easier.
I think they've miscalculated on both counts there.
This is not "it"..only in the feeble little minds of the Dems. Pubs always come home to their Christian roots. It's the only safe place to be. It's just a simple temper tantrum you are seeing. America is a wonderful place. Come on over and give us a try.
Count me in, too!
You have no idea what your accusing. I have worked plenty in the farms and had plenty of blisters, cuts and bruises for below minimum wage, so what? These are entry level jobs and we have a shortage of entry level workers. That is how many of us made it through college.
If you have a solution besides emptying the prisons I am all ears. The fact is there are labor intensive industries that need these workers and nobody wants to truly address that issue because it is too hard. It is much easier to say load up the cattle cars and ship them back then to really solve this problem.
You ready to ship back a family that has worked hard for 10 years and leads a clean life as a carpenter or roofer or on a farm simply because he crossed the border years ago?
Pray for W and Our Troops
There are times in every movement when the embers of its founding principles have died down so low that only a fatal crisis will drive the passion of its members to rekindle the spirit that built it in the first place.
Conservatives have seen those for whom they spent forty years creating majorities squander many opporunities in six short years. Their current disgust, however passionately spoken, is rational.
THey won't have jobs after their time is up. We'll know where they are because they are registered. Their cards will expire so employers won't hire them.
"You can't change something that big over night, you have to make a gradual course correction over the course of years. It took decades to get this screwed up, it will likely take decades to fix."
Tagline...(Want to fix the health care and education systems overnight? Deport all illegals today.)
I'm getting mixed signals here.
All immigrant groups, both legal and illegal, have lived in their own ghettos, where English was hardly spoken; if at all. Many, from the first Irish ones, on down, lived in stinking slums! They did so, because they couldn't afford anything better. Did past foreign born peoples turn America into a "Third World" nation? Did they ruin American "culture"?
The Irish, in Manhattan, were used by and used Tammany Hall to keep Manhattan a Liberal Dem strong hold, for more than a century. Still, even with all of the payoff, thuggery, and worse, there have been GOPers elected Mayor and no, not all of these were squishy Liberal Republicans.
Look, a whole LOT of the problems with and created by illegals, are actually the fault of local communities and states. And California's problems have been legion, even before the 1986 Blanket Amnesty. And nobody, NOBODY took these problems on, on the local level, when it was less pervasive.
I know that this topic means a lot to you, but your class warfare posts, do neither you, nor your position any good at all; drop it.
No, Fifth Column = Hollywood, DBM, many professors and school teachers, Democrat party.
A Republican who does not agree with you on the best way to solve our problems is not Fifth Column.
Besides, I don't know much about you, but my guess is you are not a loyal Republican voter, so who are you to condemn someone for being "Republican in Name Only?"
Are you going to be voting Republican in 06 elections?
The total length of the Israeli border fence is 403 miles. Yes, the US fence with Mexico would be 5 times that length, but Israel, with its limited resources and need to build in hostile territory, built most of their fence in a little over 2 years. In a space of 2 years the US could fence at LEAST 400 miles of the border, to go with the 83 miles currently fenced, and probably more than that. The whole thing would be up within a decade, and illegal flows would be diverted to more difficult areas, cutting down their frequency.
