President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

A nation that will not take the measures necessary to control its borders will not remain a nation for long. What the President has proposed is insufficient to effectively control the influx of illegals. Additionally, his guest worker program will result in citizenship for 12 (or maybe 20) million people who will likely vote Democrat. As a result, the nation will have another long lasting liberal electoral majority, as we did from 1932 to 1968.

In 32 months, the President and First Lady will retire to a mansion in a gated community safe from the immigrants hordes even as much of the country ceases being American in all but name. Those of us not fortunate enough to live in protected circumstances will be living in an environment that will more resemble the Third World than the America we have loved.

"I live the problem here in California and respectfully, you haven't a clue about the expenses, danger and problems illegals have brought to us."

Thanks for the respect. I too have lived in California and still have family and friends there An uncle of mine has been in law enforcement in LA County his whole life.

It's a big country with a lot of different viewpoints though. I think Bush has shown leadership and brought this discussion before us. Would like to see him get some credit.

So you're calling Tancredo a RINO? OMG

hmmm. Given the state of leadership in the Republican Party these days, I think he WOULD be a RINO.

Why did I listen? Maybe a faint hope this man would be true to his oath? Just a glimmering thought he would do what best for his nation? A nation that has given him the highest honor in the world?

That goes for me as well.

Will there be a shake up in the next elections? We shall see...

"Madam, why do you feel that you are in a position to characterize someone as non-conservative or a RINO simply based on their position on GWB's proposal? Aren't you engaging in the same sweeping broad generalizations that you condemn Peach of making?"

Because after reading a particular person's posts over and over, you start to get a feel for what you are dealing with. Bushbots are becoming easier to spot. But thanks fot the "Madam" part. That's very chivalrous of you.

"I wish it could be remembered that it took all Republicans to elect President Bush and give the majority in the Senate and House. I thought that FreeRepublic was a conservative web-site meaning they stood by the GOP. Reasonable people can agree to disagree rather than alienate our fellow Republicans."

Yes and that "majority" gave us (1)the non-reform of McPain's unconstitutional "Campaign Finance Reform" which Bush said he would veto, then refused to; (2)the largest expansion of federal entitlements in forty years (Medicare drug program); (3)a doubling of the federal expeditures and federal bureacracy for "education"; (4)unrestrained federal discreationary spending; (5)McPain's Al Queda Bill of Rights; (6)failure to invoke rules to end the fillibuster of judicial nominations; (7)failure to reform social security (headed to bankruptcy); (8)and constant appeasement to the domination of the congressional agenda by war-like Dimorat leaders who know how to fight, politically.

Its not a "conservative" record to be proud of and at many points along the way, it was only pushing from the GOP base that moved either Bush or the GOP congressional leadership back on track (Meiers).

So, you want everyone to now applaud a Bush eleventh hour ploy to finally (pretend to) enforce what he was constitutionally mandated to be enforcing all along? To what end?

Have you even looked at the spiraling down immigration enforcement figures over the last six years? Doubtful.

They put to the lie any real intent by Bush to enforce existing law much less any "reformed" enforcement rules.

You confuse the GOP leadership with the GOP base it has abandoned.

Sounds vaguely doity, doesn't it. LOL. Unsure to legality, but if it was good enough for Groucho Marx, it's good enough for me.

Groucho Marx? ZZZZT, wrong answer.

You're obviously too young to remember Froggie the Gremlin from the old Saturday morning kids radio show back in the 1940s. I never missed that program if we were home with the old Spartan console radio, because Froggie would pluck his magic twanger and tell corny jokes in his gravelly voice that only a kid would think were funny.

OK, so the 1040s were not the ne plus ultra of electronic entertainment, but it was great fun on Saturday mornings if you were 10 years old and no school to dread until Monday.

Tell it to the 9600 dead US Citizens, dead at the hands of illegals by accident and intentional violence.

I was a little shocked to see Peach post that, because Dobbs was visibly upset.

I wasn't shocked at all.

"I saw 2-3 freepers post that Dobbs liked the speech. Another said he was so so with it.

I'll wait until tomorrow and force myself to watch him to judge for myself."

I honestly think President Bush made a good speech, and I am happy that I wasn't the one who had to make it. The President just simply can't please everyone all the time on every single issue that tears at the hearts and minds of each and everyone of us.

My biggest complaint is, why didn't he address this IA issue when he first became President, and why has the Congress sat on its hands?

You don't have to answer the question. I already know, and you probably do, too.

I have neither the time or the inclination to spend any more time with you on this issue

build a wall
deport the illegals
fine employers who hire illegals

and we can return to making America better for AMERICANS!

Let the Mexicans protest in Mexico where their problems originate...
