An arsenal of exotic weapons - including a sniper rifle, a spear and a set of 8-inch metal claws - were seized from a 23-year-old Jersey City man after his worried father called cops. When South District cops responded to the Greenville home yesterday morning, they found the sniper rifle - with a powerful scope and a laser sight - as well as three Glock handguns and more than 1,200 rounds of ammunition, reports said. Among the bullets were illegal "hollow-point" rounds, police said. In addition to the spear and metal claws, cops found a number of savage-looking knives, including one that had blades coming out of each end of its carved wooden handle. The owner of the weapons lived with his father, his brother and two younger brothers, police said.

Hi All-

Q: What does one call two guns laying side-by-side inside a gunvault in NJ?
A: An arsenal

They really do have a few screws loose in the state of New Jersey these days. The legalities surrounding hollowpoint cartridges is among the most misquoted and mistaken topics out there. There is a reason the signs leading to Pennsylvania used to say something like, "Welcome to Pennsylvania, America Starts Here!"

Hollowpoints stored as he did are legal even in New Jersey. SOURCE. Scroll down a bit to subsection f(2).

I sure hope his Pop never gets a glance at my knick-knack credenza. He'd wet his pants.

The problem was the spear was full, auto class III.

Good Gravy! NJ was strange when I lived there 25 years ago.

"I overlooked that. LOL You can't own hollowpoints in NJ? I have several handgun mags full of them!"

Hollowpoints are illegal in NJ.

ROFL! Sword. The mines may be fun for taking out burglars, but picking up the leftover bits is a little gross.

Of course, burglars entering my house wouldn't meet my claymore anyway. That's what double aught is for :)

PLEASE, don't even get CLOSE to your last 1000 rounds. Remember to BE PREPARED. Personally, I go ammo shopping when I get near 3000 (including my .22 LR stash).

Hi driftdriver-

Please read the hyperlink above. Hollowpoints are not illegal across the board. You can also check packing.org for additional information.

Seriously? I don't think I've ever had more than 500 rounds in the safe, and I probably only have about 150 right now. What the heck do you shoot that burns so much ammo?

Of course, there are so few gun stores around here that our prices are a bit outrageous. I'd go broke storing a few thousand rounds away.

You owe me a new keyboard. That line made me laugh so hard I spilled my coffee.

Four guns are an arsenal now! Wow!

I have six guns. Would that qualify as a large arsenal?

If they find .223 rounds, will the media call them "Very High Powered" like they did during the D.C. sniper shootings?

There has to be more to this story than the article says. While it chaps me to no end to hear the MSM call his collection a "cache" of "exotic" weapons, I am going to give the father (it is HIS house) the benefit of the doubt. He does live with this young man (and his younger siblings) and perhaps he had reason to fear for his and/or his children's safety. Not enough information to know. As far as the weapons confiscation, at least here it is standard language in a restraining order to restrict the person's access to weapons. Actually makes sense if a restraining order is being used to "protect" an innocent....but that's a whole other thread!!

Good evening.
"...cops found a number of savage-looking knives,"

I don't know about the rest of you but I feel much safer knowing there are fewer savage-looking knives on the street.

Not that I go through it quickly, but I do buy in bulk to cut costs (save about a third that way). It stores for a long time, too. Also, remember - the time when you really need ammo, you won't be able to buy it. .22LR will do for money if things get really TARFU'ed. Do yourself a favor and up your ammodump. Walmart sells good stuff at a reasonable prices, and you can find them just about anywhere.

What? Heck one brick of .22LR is 500 rounds. Ever go out a shoot a AR-15? AK? FAL? I usually have well over 10,000 rounds myself, not including my side business which stocks WAY more.

It's not that you will necessarily shoot so much ammo all the time (although it pays to sty in practice). Rather it's what you can do with it when the shite hits the fan.

First you will need plenty ammo because it will be hard to find. Second, ammo will become more valuable than money ... e.g. trade a few rounds for a loaf of bread or a baloney sandwich.

Its illogical to ban hollowpoints in any case. If anything they are no more dangerous than any other kind of bullet. Maybe even less dangerous in the case of criminals vs law enforcement. FMJ bullets penetrate and can pass through bullet proof vests in some cases. Hollow points explode on hard targets, and allot of times wont even go through a wall.

The only thing a hollow points does better than an FMJ is to stop a single person. The wounds look worse and thats what apparently prompted these dumb politicians to do what they did. Reminds me of how a bayonet and flash suppressor were considered characteristics of an "assault weapon" in the 1994 ban.

I've often wondered how one man can shoot 1200 rounds all at once. I'll lurk this thread so maybe someone can brainwash me.

It's not so much what you have in the safe, it's ... what you have in the safe :-)

Going out with the Remington 30.06 every once in awhile probably needs 150 rds or so in storage. That probably would get expensive stocking up.

The FUN stuff, full-auto or not, would be the .223, 7.62x39 and the 7.62x54. Rifles can be cheap and ammo is even cheaper.
