Tancredo Rips Government’s Spying of Minutemen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this morning’s Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.

“The Mexican military doesn’t exactly have a ‘good government’ reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexico’s military to the Minutemen’s location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble,” said Tancredo.

“Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats’ spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemen’s recruitment of more volunteers,” said Tancredo.

“The Minutemen haven’t been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrary—they have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemen’s constitutional right to organize,” Tancredo concluded. “I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.”

No legal basis. Doesn't have to be one when President Bush calls these people vigilantes, and incites Mexico against them. Shows us what kind of man took over the Republican party.

So many Americans are dumb as clods. The Mexicans hold up signs that say, "Hey, gringo we owned this country before you did, and we have come to take it back." (Outright treason.)

Now who do you suppose taught the Mexicans this lie? Answer: the two Mexican presidents - George Bush and Vicente Fox.

You never hear the Pubs trying to set the historical record straight by reminding people that we fought, bought and paid for the Southwest and Mexico as usual took the money and ran. Less than 40 years of Mexican occupation, (in reality neglect).

Thanks for translating that Carolyn. You know, I thought this was BS at first, until I sat down and thought about all the boneheaded decisions this administration has made regarding border security.

I'm afraid to wonder what's next...

Just where do you see any words stating that this is being done at the behest of the President??????????????????????????

I find all of you posters who are ranting about how BUSH is a FAILURE, WE ARE DOOMED, to be total LUNATICS.

The Border Patrol Agents have been living with the Border problems for a long, long time, and have developed their own rules.

FIRST, they want to stay alive. Certain factions would have them killed if they don't cooperate (Mexican smuggling rings).

SECOND, they like the extra money from BRIBES for allowing smuggling of drugs and people to continue.

IF you think this hasn't been going on for years and years, then you just don't have your eyes open.

NOW, they are keeping the Mexicans informed of the MM's situation.

NOT Because the President told them to, but because they would lose money, or their lives if they didn't.

Ask PRISON GUARDS why they don't 'enforce' certain rules or 'tattle' on certain prisoners. It is in the same category.

thought they said on FOX The President was behind this????

AND we all know that the MSM can be trusted to tell the truth.

Just because Robert Murdoch made an abrupt switchover to supporting Hillary Clinton doesn't mean that he might have FOX slanted against the President, like all the other MSM's.

The BP agents are doing this to keep their bribes, and their lives. It has been that way on the border for a long time.

WAKE UP.

I do not see claims that Mexico has the cooperation per se of the USBP, but they have petitioned for overall cooperation. They keep using the term 'vigilantes' over and over and that, combined with the extravagant claims, makes me wonder if someone in the Mexican Foreign Affairs Dept. is just posting propaganda.

Thank you. I was so disgusted, that I just got up and went to bed last night. It could be propaganda, but then again, when we hear the rhetoric about Minutemen straight from the administration, who knows? Mushroom syndrome : (

That were interviewing the guy who is putting out the petitions on Fox the other afternoon -- I think it was Monday, can't remember if it was John Gibson's show or Sheps... probably Shep since I was cooking dinner and it caught my ear when they said San Bernardino.

"Regarding the MM, it seems reasonable to me that if you've got a bunch of men with walkie talkies (and who knows what else) strolling up and down our border with a friendly nation, then you'd want to tip off the legal authorities on the other side.

...said the administration in a amazing flash of honesty.

Exactly how do you know this to be factual and true?

He doesn't, but since it can't be proven either way, he'll make the accusation and defend it rigorously.

Pretty serious allegations.

Just wanted to give him an opportunity to support them in some fashion. If he can't, then he ought to say so.

If the Minutemen do nothing wrong, they have nothing to fear.

You don't seem to be getting the picture here, and you still haven't responded to those who corrected you. The whole point of surveillance by the Minuteman is to spot the illegal entries. If the Mexican authorities know where the MM are stationed, the coyotes will instantly know as well.

The coordination...and governmental complicity... appears to be at a profoundly deep level. And the test of this thesis may already have been borne out...when the MM informed Border Patrol of their area of operations...suddenly... no illegal entry in that zone.
