Tancredo Rips Government’s Spying of Minutemen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this morning’s Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.

“The Mexican military doesn’t exactly have a ‘good government’ reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexico’s military to the Minutemen’s location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble,” said Tancredo.

“Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats’ spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemen’s recruitment of more volunteers,” said Tancredo.

“The Minutemen haven’t been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrary—they have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemen’s constitutional right to organize,” Tancredo concluded. “I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.”

She's been grinding the same axe for a long time...very much like the one source within the Border Patrol she identifies.

Yeah, while you were busy mocking them, I was watching candidates at every level tonight...from county commissioners to state senators and State House members...forced by citizens to address the immigration issue.

The entire room full of involved average Americans was united in one assessment: The federal government is not doing their sworn duty...so it falls on leaders at every other level to do their best to step up and do what their national leaders refuse to do.

The one Rep who made the strongest argument for sealing the border was the only one who got applause the whole night.

You've been following their careers?

You really ought to wash off your speculations after you pull them out of your backside. You're making this place reek.

There are many reporters that specialize and focus on one or two subjects for a long time.

It doesn't mean they are disreputable UNLESS you have facts to prove otherwise.

But you don't have facts. You have an opinion.

If you would say "it is my opinion" or "my sentiment is ..." then that would be Ok. But when you try to claim facts that don't exist IMO, then you are misleading people and that angers them.

Where did you find out that the Daily Bulletin Article was a phony report?

As far as impeachment goes, it is always a viable, non-violent option, even for the beloved President Bush. People who favor the Reconquista over the security of the American people must not be tolerated.

Gilchrist, Stucky and the local fellow hammered the point that we should use conservatism and their record on illegal immigration as litmus tests. They're right because we, the citizens, still hold that power and are either on top of it or remiss in our responsibilities. I readily admit that I voted for the current President twice because I saw the opposition unacceptable. Ironically, had I put one or two of those to the Constitution Party candidates I would be sleeping easier knowing that I applied my precious vote to a party that hasn't been compromised. We are told (commanded) to vote Republican no matter how vile the candidates may be just to spite the Democrats. This policy has been plainly bad for our nation. I encourage all to vote their heart and see where the chips fall. Should the Dems gain advantage for a short time their patheticness would only be amplified - encouraging less apathy during the next cycle. Break eggs to make an omelet. "Those who dare; win."

I'm a person who now wishes Chicken John Jay had beat Sundquist for his second term. I think you can understand why. Sundquist the RINO nearly ruined our state. He was the DEMs best friend and I doubt any of us here will say otherwise of him. The state income tax nonsense that even RINO Lamar Alexander supported him on and the fact he nearly bankrupted the state. Now I know Bredesen is a DEM and by his own admission is a Liberal. But which one actually has ran a more Conservative office? Bredesen IMO wins hands down. I disagree with a lot of his stuff like Pre-K but much of that nonsense is coming from the GOP in DC too.

What harm could Chicken John Jay have done the state? IMO none actually. He was a weak candidate who never won an office and I remember him running in the 1960's for governor.

Sundquist on the other hand was bad news. He was as Liberal as the day is long. He worked hard undoing every single thing the GOP Conservatives tried to do. If not for some conservative DEMs the income tax would be in place. Bredesen has yet to utter the word and the state in in the black budget wise. Bredesen had the guts to tell the Tenncare HMO's no. He had the guts to say either take the cuts and end the corruption or I will shut it down.

I look at that then I look at what Bush told us in the 2000 election. He said as plain as can be that "Me and Mr Gore are not that far apart on most issues." Sadly many in here helped create the Conservative Bush Urban Legend. Bush has never said a conservative speech in his life. Yet after each speech we heard chorus of He's Mister Wonderful. But each time the mans mouth opens Republicans listen in awe as if it were the best thing for conservatism since the Constitution. He a Rockefeller Republican like his daddy and grandfather who was a U.S. senator. It's true I bothered to look it up. Many could care less simply because Bush isn't a DEM. Rockefeller Republicans are as bad as DEMs in most policies. They are hard core Liberals.

What would have happened if Gore had won in 2000 and our GOP congress actually acted like Conservative Republicans? Much of the Bush Big Government abuses would not have seen the light of day. The next POTUS even if it was Hillary would not be inheriting Executive Powers her husband would have never been allowed and every person in here would have screamed stop this tyranny at the top of their lungs had Clinton tried this stuff. The double standard many seem to hold that abuses are fine as long as the DEMs aren't doing them is sickening. It's hypocritical of those who cursed Clinton for his wrongs to say Atta Boy George for far worse ones.

Bush is another Sundquist and nothing more. I'll show you why I refused to vote for Bush in 2000 this was from the official Bush 2000 web site.

Re-elected to a second term last year with a record 69 percent of the vote, Governor Sundquist has initiated unprecedented reforms in Tennessee in the areas of welfare, government and crime, while placing a special emphasis on Tennessee children. Under his watch, the growth of government spending has been cut by more than half; the number of employable adults on welfare has been reduced by 60 percent; and Tennessee became the first state in the nation to connect every public school and library to the Internet and to offer universal health care coverage to all children.

You see the lies don't you and the approval of Big Government? Not so long ago no Republican would have endorsed such a man as Sundquist much less praised him. He made no welfare cuts. He made no spending cuts except as threatsd against the citizens because he didn't get his income tax. He did no reforms. The state government became so corrupt we are just now seeing lawmakers including a Memphis Ford being taken out of office not by a Republican Administration but the DEM one, Tenncare nearly bankrupted the state did Sundquist care? Did Frist? Did Alexander? No these Liberal shills supported that program that Hillary and Gore with Ned Ray dreamed up. The HMO's running it were ran by former Health and Human services officials who purposely ruined the state Medicaid Program which was actually no where near broke. Yea aren't RINO's just grand.

Had Sundquist not split the GOP in half leaving the Conservatives hanging out to dry much of the stuff would have not ever happened. Bush is just like Sundquist in every way possible. He is a Liberal ruining the GOP. He splits the party by pushing his Liberal agenda's and makes Conservatives jobs nearly impossible. The National GOP had much more integrity, much more Conservative values, and a lot more fight in them against liberal socialism as a minority. If it takes making the the minority party to get them to return to that point then so be it. I'm willing to give them just that at this point.

I am very sick and tired of empty promises and childish threats from party shills saying OMG a DEM may win if you don't vote for Candidate RINO. I say so what? The GOP congress has had 10 years to do something. These tyrants are worse than the DEMs. I'll say this much the DEMs as a party are liberals and they don't pretend to be Conservatives I wish I could say as much for the current GOP.

Frist is pathetic. This is the same man who went year after year to HCFA to secure funding for Tenncare. That so called Medicare reform looks just like it to me. Fred Thompson was another man I once respected. He helped bring down Pardon Me Ray Blanton and yet when it came to taking down the Felon in Chief Fred lost all ambition and was either out to lunch most of the time or could have cared less about chairing those hearings.

Lamar Alexander the man from Plaid? What a standing joke for a Conservative. I remember his nonsense. The 1982 Failed Worlds Fair. Channel One. The Whittle fiasco and the building no one wanted that tax payer money built. The so called magical investments just to name a few. He is a Big Government shill and nothing more a Poppy Bush insider.

He looked kinda good as governor only because the man he replaced was headed for prison. I didn't vote for Frist last time nor Alexander and I'm proud of the fact. Ed Bryant could have won but the campaign Micro Manager in Chief in DC and his staff pushed Long Time Family Friend Alexander even before Fred officially announced making Bryants campaign a near impossibility.

George W Bush has been responsible for keeping many good conservatives out of office because a long time friend just happened to be running in the primaries and get DC help and support. This is the state of the current GOP. Enough of them. They are as a party as corrupt as the DEMs. Toss the RINO's and start over is what I say about them. Socialism is Socialism I don't care what party it is in.

Give me a Gilchrist or Tancredo to vote for and I'll do it gladly. Send me a RINO and I'll do all I can to make certain he doesn't get elected on my vote. If more voters did this the abuses would stop.

Howard Phillips is a good and very decent man. The GOP shills hate him despite the fact he helped bring about the GOP takeover. He had Reagans ear also. Bush wouldn't even listen to Steve Forbes.

I said this yesterday and I think it's true. The Conservatives Republicans and the Rockefeller Republicans have reached a point of no return as far as being able to unite and work as one party. A split needs to come and a true Conservative Constitution Based Party formed. The GOP would likely Whig and the Rockefeller Republicans go to the party that they more closely follow. The conservatives from the GOP, DEM, and Third Party would form the new one. This was the way the GOP was formed to start with. Issues became so divisive that the party split. I think at this point it is in the best interest of the future of this nation and the sooner the better IMO.

Well let's see if this stands. I'd rather speak my mind and have clear conscience than be an enabler to the current state of our government. I'm not calling for violence or overthrow of government etc by any means, but rather for a restoration to the way our framers and founders showed us was right. I thought that was the purpose of forums such as this. How anyone can curse the DEMs and yet cheer the behavior of the GOP as it stands today is beyond me.

You originally posted that we should wait for more sources on this story. It came off to me like you didn't trust the Mexican government as a source. I gave you a link that included...

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed."

Giving you another source, and American agency credibility.

BTW, if the above paragraph doesn't show everyone that the American government is fully complacent in reconquesta, nothing will. It's rotten to the core.

"Simply the fact that he made dangerous public statements based on heresay and nothing more."
And the president, standing around with his thumb up his a$$ on the subject of the border for six years, with majorities in both houses, is not dangerous? Here we are spending billions to neutralize hostiles in Iraq and Afghanistan while hundreds of thousands of people swarm across our border. Sorry, while I like some of President Bush's policies, Tancredo is perhaps the only elected leader with any credibility, at at least more than anyone else in Washington.

Local authorities also keep tabs on neighborhood watch groups.

Regarding the MM, it seems reasonable to me that if you've got a bunch of men with walkie talkies (and who knows what else) strolling up and down our border with a friendly nation, then you'd want to tip off the legal authorities on the other side.

"Local authorities also keep tabs on neighborhood watch groups."
__________________________

Yes, but they don't report their activity to someone who then alerts the burglars in the neigborhood. Furthermore, it is my understanding that the police help to establish these neighborhood watch groups. In fact, I can remember when we formed a neighborhood watch program in my neighborhood and a police officer attended the first meeting. Sure would have been nice if our feds helped the Minutemen establish their neighborhood watch program. Better yet, it would be nice if our feds were effective in enforcing our current immigration laws. Then the Minutemen wouldn't even exist.

Apparently you are not disputing the story, as some have, and think its just fine and dandy for the feds to report the activities of the Minutemen to the Mexican government. Suit yourself.
