Another suggestion: who "outed" Plame

I said that Wilson revealed he was the Ambassador who was the source for the May 2003 Nicholas Kristof piece and the June 2003 Walter Pincus piece, in which he falsely accused the Administration of jiggering evidence on June 14, 2003 at the Washington EPIC conference (where he also listed his wife’s name as “Valerie Plame.”) There’s ample reason to believe he flourished her name and connection to the agency in greater detail regularly, which makes the entire investigation into who publicly disclosed her identity particularly ridiculous. A shrewd reader at Free Republic has found this article (wayback says it was posted July 7, 2003 - before Novak’s article) See if you can guess who was the “former state department official with ties to the CIA” who was a source for this article which the wayback machine says was posted on July 7, 2003. Ray McGovern, who was the other featured speaker at the EPIC conference and a leading member of the VIPs—one who openly called on CIA employees to leak – is a named source. A second source is described only as a “former state department official with ties to the CIA.” I strongly suspect “former state department official” is none other than Ambassador Munchausen himself, referring to his wife’s employment to strengthen his credentials. And I have reason to believe that has been a pattern, as the witnesses Libby has announced he’ll call will demonstrate.

So while we know the who. . .'surely'. . .do we know the 'why'? Deliberate set up for CIA efforts to take down Bush? Or. . .what?

"Either he was a complete dufus or they were planning a book deal for the past couple years."
I guess you misunderstood. The above phrase was a quote from another Freeper, mtbopfuyn, which I responded to. Sorry, I should have included his name in the quote, and that's why your response to my comment made me stop and wonder what you were talking about; but it did manage to take the punch out of it.

If Plame was undercover anything it was at Sardi's, making sure they didn't use oleo in her croissants. There was no outing consistent with any laws, so why is this long-dead horse being flogged on a daily basis? The smell is overpowering.

Just look at the contribution she made to the Kerry campaign. She gave her address as that super secret "for covert spies only" address. How did that happen?? Well, seems like Joe contributed beyond the legal limit. They sent it back to him. The next day, Valerie made HER contribution.

Nothing makes sense except they wanted Valerie outed to add to their cause of "Bad Bush People". Cooper was the plant. They wanted Rove out of the way for Hillary. After all, Bubba said it directly: "If it wasn't for Rove, we wouldn't have lost the Whitehouse and Congress in 2000".

The target is and always has been Rove!!! Bush has made his move and put Rove exactly where the Dems don't want him and the reporters have lost the access to him at the Whitehouse.

The fact that Wilson had her named on his personal web site long before this even became a "story" can be considered "outing" as well.

Didn't David Corn write about her first?

She probably is still planning to run for public office. Which lucky state will get the honors?

Well .. I want to take you back a little farther than the outing of Valerie and even Wilson's trip to Niger.

I remember when the Clintons were doing Europe to promote Hillary book and Bubba was overheard by a reporter having a heated conversation with Tony Blair. Bubba was trying to persuade Blair to drop his support for Bush and the war. Blair was having none of it. Bubba was heard to say to Blair, "If you don't distance yourself from Bush, you will lose your next election". Blair won anyway.

Of course that story was quickly quieted and I never saw but the one article about it in the UK papers.

Funny thing .. soon after that statement by Bubba, the announcement was made by Wilson that he had been to Niger, Iraq didn't buy yellowcake, the UK report was a forgery (but he didn't bother to say there was another intel report which Blair still declares was solid). So the statement in the SOTU speech by Bush was still accurate .. although the dems still whine that he lied about it.

The close proximity of these events has always made me curious if the Clintons knew about Wilson's trip ahead of time (or were even involved in planning it - being friends of the Wilsons) and it was a setup to stop the war. Bubba was pimping for his friends in France and Germany who had billions of dollars tied up in contracts with Iraq - and they didn't want war. The treasonous snake Bill Clinton - was going all over Europe telling people not to support his how president. The guy is disgusting!

Granted this is just my opinion, based on articles I read here on FR. But I still believe the Wilson trip was planned - that Valerie volunteered her husband on purpose - he went there to do nothing - and thereby prove Iraq didn't buy any yellowcake (but neglected to report that Iraq did make inquiries about buying yellowcake). Wilson came back to the USA and was not debriefed - unheard of - plus he made no report to any proper authorities.

This was a setup from the beginning and the only way to cover it up was to blame the admin for outing his wife - who he had already outed himself.

The whole thing is weird - and I can hardly wait until Libby's defense puts Wilson on the stand. If he lies under oath - he could be in really big trouble.

El Hushbo is right about some things. He's certainly entertaining, and even though I still disagree with allowing critical assets of this nation to come under control of foreigners, regardless of the nation. Rockefeller Center is NOT a critical asset. Fox cable is NOT a critical asset. Ports, including terminals, farms, food processing, water treatment, utilities, and any place that manufactures widgets for whatever military application (ie turbine blades, computer chips and boards, etc.) should be home owned and operated.

Sorry about that rant there. I like Rush, but he's just too much of a GOP shill from time to time, so I keep in mind he's chiefly on MY radio to entertain and skewer liberals while I drive down the road, not as a living definer of what views a conservative should have.

The first night this thing erupted in July 2003 I sat at my computer amd googled the words "Joseph Wilson, married to" and immediately got the Middle East Institute bio. I was stunned. I thought if I could do this so easily then why couldn't Novak or any reporter who knew she worked at CIA have done exactly the same thing? The only thing I have never quite understood is why Novak felt it was necessary to put her name in the article in the first place.

The CIA is finished and they know it.

If Bush were to shut down or surplant the CIA the very same lefties that have been blaming the CIA for all the world's ills would rise to its defense.
