Statement from (DUKE) President Brodhead on New Black Panther Party Demonstration
Duke Univ News & Communications ^ | April 28 | Richard H. Brodhead

Posted on 04/29/2006 4:49:54 AM PDT by PghBaldy

Note to Editors: Duke University President Richard H. Brodhead sent the following email message this evening to the university’s students, faculty and staff, as well as to the parents of undergraduates

As you may know, we learned from reports in the news media last evening that an organization known as the New Black Panther Party had announced that it plans to hold a demonstration at the Chapel Drive entrance to West Campus on Monday morning, May 1. These reports indicated the group intended to enter the campus and that they may be carrying guns. Guns are not permitted on Duke’s campus.

Campus News/Working at Duke This afternoon, Duke Police were in contact with representatives of that organization. Duke Police were told that the group plans to hold a press conference/demonstration on Durham city property outside West Campus on Monday at 10:00a.m. They informed Duke Police that they have no intention of entering the campus to be disruptive in any way. They also assured us they will not have guns.

Durham Police will require that any demonstrations on city property near our campus will abide by all appropriate state and local laws.

Exams Week begins on Monday. This is a period of considerable stress for our students, especially following the already stressful events of the past several weeks. We will not let the safety of our campus be jeopardized, nor will we allow our students’ lives to be disrupted.

Duke University will have additional officers assigned. Any attempted access by this group to our campus will be tightly restricted and no disruption of the university will be permitted. This information has been conveyed to the representatives of the New Black Panther Party. Again, they have assured Duke Police that they plan to peacefully assemble off of our campus and do not intend to enter university property.

Duke has gone through a difficult period. I am proud of the way this campus community has responded to the many tensions and pressures we have been facing. I wish our students well on their exams. All university activities will go on as scheduled on Monday. Duke Police is taking all necessary precautions to ensure that this is the case.

Welcome to Free Republic, PghBaldy.

Thanks for posting the article. Broadhead (!) is right tho; it is finals. Tensions and fatigue will be at an all time high. Figures some motly group would demand to show up and make tensions higher.

The New Black Panthers opened an office in Newark New Jersey.
Anyone that thinks this group is peaceful and has pure motives need only to look at the history of the party. They
have been sending speakers out to M.L.King events and what they say is disturbing. They have one aim and that is to
influence young blacks into the militant and racist lifestyle of the New Black Panthers.

"Dr Brodhead, a hate group is coming to campus."
"We condemn hate in any description and we will stand against it. We will not tolerate intolerance. "
"Dr, its the new Black Panthers group"
"Oh, well, I see. Umm, in the spirit of tolerance, we will tolerate some intolerance."

Dnesh D'Sousa's "Illiberal Education" was published in 91 but it's hard to immagine that much has changed since then regarding schools and PC. Duck university figured prominently on D'Sousa's list of formerly serious schools which had degenerated into PC factories. The idea of their having to deal with the evil fruits of the crap strikes me as funny.

My suggestion to the president and board of regents of Duck: You might want to consider what Slick KKKlintler did the last time he had an ugly rape allegation he needed to MoveOn past, i.e. bomb some innocent Christian country for 80 days and nights including Easter sunday. That worked pretty well for Slick, i.e. nobody remembered the name Juanita Broaddrick after that was over. Does Duck university have any sort of an airforce?

he said they don't INTEND to... means sh!t. "cause we didn't intend to, it just happened so it's not our fault" will be their excuse if they do.

Hey, Doc, do you think many on campus are proud of you for your pusillanimous responses to the allegations? You have contributed significantly to the shameful disruption of many lives by your failure to admit that a trial must precede a verdict. Typical academic chickens---.

Black Panthers without guns?

That's a new one.

For those who don't know it was a murder by the Black Panthers that convinced David Horowitz that he was no longer a Marxist.

Hopefully the FBIs have as many infiltrators in the New Black Panthers as they had in the old.

Nope. They will come on campus, or else they would not be doing it. People forget what the Black Panthers are like: " All Political Power Comes from the Barrel of a Gun."

And whats more , they will try to cause a riot and violence. People may get shot.

Their goal will be to have black students in Durham become polarized and violent, and they seek a violent response from civic authorities to up the ante.

It will also become increasingly improbable that the Lacrosse indicted players will get a fair trial.

This is because riots will ensue in Durham, if the Lacrosse boys are found , "not guilty." They will likely be convicted on circumstantial evidence, even if both have alibis.

Whose fault is all of this? Nifongs. For bringing a case prematurely and going to the media with it. It is unlikely that he will be elected D.A. now, so he will go down with as much vitriol as possible. A black candidate will be elected as D.A.

Nifong should be disbarred.

Remember the Black Panthers? Genocidal racism personified. Below,Seattle 1969

Next step in destabilizing American Society? Black Muslims will begin to form cells to do violence. It probably has already started. And shortly after that? Linkage with Hamas and Al Qaeda. Connect the dots.

And liberal politicians want to take our guns? Yea Right. I am off to the range for a spot of trap shooting.

These peckahwood panthers have to learn to use the ballot box, or say hello to the other social dinosaurs they represent. The National Guard needs to be ready in Durham

They will likely be convicted on circumstantial evidence, even if both have alibis.

Oddly enough, if they are convicted, they're likely to be convicted on the basis of perjured direct evidence, the 'ho's testimony, that's directly contradicted by just about all of the really valid circumstantial evidence, i.e., no implicating DNA, photos showing the 'ho already injured before the alleged rape, time stamped photos showing Seligman wasn't on the scene when he had to be, and the 'ho's inability to identify anybody when she first made the charges. Direct evidence is essentially testimonial evidence where an individual says she personally saw somebody do something. Circumstantial evidence is often more reliable because it's not subject to the vagaries of human memory and is much harder to fake. It is essentially a set of circumstance from which it can accurately be inferred that an individual did or did not do something, like a defendant's DNA on a rape victim's body or a defendant's fingerprints on a murder weapon, with the defendant having no legitimate explanation for the presence of the DNA or finger prints. OTOH, if circumstantial evidence of a crime ought to be somewhere it is not, then that's compelling evidence that the crime didn't occur, no matter what the alleged "victim," like the 'ho in this case, says.

If it weren't for the violence and hatred, the Black Panthers come across like a black parody of the Village People.

a defendant's fingerprints on a murder weapon

One good reason for never handling someone else's gun.

It sounds to me like they ~do~ intend to enter the campus. I am sure that these violent racists consider that their already stated intention to confront lacrosse players will be "constructive" rather than a "disruption," which is where Duke draws its laughable line in the pixie dust. As to whether they intend to come armed to Duke, Idi Amien wannabe and NBPP leader, Malik Zulu Shabazz, is quoted in the N&O as saying, "I can't comment on that."

This statement by Broadhead is a pathetically lame failure to cleanup the mess made by the statement of Burness. It is saved from being completely incoherent only by the fact that it makes quite clear that Duke lacks the resolve and competence to protect its campus and students from these thugs.
