Not during time of war when their words are used as propaganda by our enemies and used to demoralize our troops. Defending speech like this during this time can not be excused.

He said he would elaborate his views in an op-ed essay.

Can't wait to see it buried in the press. /sarc

"...they most likely would be recalled."

Not really. Retired generals and admirals are a dime a dozen. There are 900 active duty flag billets with the five services, 15-20% of those retire each year (there are literally thousands of retired generals and admirals to pick from).

Also, keep in mind that our military today is far too top heavy with flag officers; we DO NOT need 900 active duty flag officers.

Our current level of flag officers, for a military of 1,400,000, is almost the same that we had during WWII, when our military was 12,000,000 strong.

Is this criticism appropriate for Passover, Chief?

(If you get my drift.)

Its an outrage they even spoke up. They should have their retirement cut in half.

No, it's an outrage to have one's intelligence insulted by the media.

"I believe we need a fresh start in the Pentagon," retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste, who commanded the Army's 1st Infantry Division in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, told CNN cable network. "We need a leader who understands teamwork, a leader who knows how to build teams, a leader that does it without intimidation. You know, it speaks volumes that guys like me are speaking out."

Yes, it speaks volumes. Guys like you could not rise to the top, so you blame "mean people" for keeping you from obtaining your deserved 3rd or 4th star.

You're welcome.

My only complaint with Secretary Rumsfeld is that he has (DRASTICALLY) reduced the number of flag billets. We don't need 900 generals and admirals on active duty...200 would be more realistic with the size of our military today.

In his defense, I know that even he really couldn't do that...Congress and the various alumni mutual protection societies (military academy associations) wouldn't allow it.

Hmmm. You reckon THESE Generals will get as much ink or air time as the 6 who DON'T like Rummy? I, for one, won't be holding my breath waiting.

"Personally I think those retired Generals have a different agenda. I wonderwho they voted for in 2004, what politician they will support in 2008 and what position in a Democratic Presidential cabinet they would get, if that ever happened, in 2008. Makes ya wonder..."

These whiners/moaners are the discarded Clintoonian Perfumed Princes. They are shilling for 2008 and a victory by their beloved $inator Hildebea$t. Then, they might become ambassadors or even a cabinet member.

They will only show the rope a dope for the upcomming 08 election.
Most of these generals are the spoils of the Clinton era. They all sit on their As*es and allow our military to go to he**.
When President Bush became Commander in Chief I suppose he was surprised to see how denegrated our military system was. No spare parts for the mechanical equipment, not enough amo. and, many other surprises.
This should show how good the Democrats are concerned for the safety of our nation.
Spend the money for social programs and, to he** with our safety.

Regarding who these generals supported, it'd be interesting to check on their FEC contributions. I may do that later in the weekend, if no one else has. Have to sign off now.
