Generals defend Rumsfeld
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | April 15, 2006 | Rowan Scarborough

Several retired generals who worked with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, including a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, yesterday decried calls for the secretary's resignation from other retired officers.

President Bush repeated his support for his point man in the war against terrorists.

"I think what we see happening with retired general officers is bad for the military, bad for civil-military relations and bad for the country," retired Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs under Mr. Bush, said in an interview with The Washington Times. He said he would elaborate his views in an op-ed essay.

In addition to the retired generals cited by Scarborough a quick search turns up lots of active duty generals satisfied with progress in Iraq.

General George Casey Jr In the end, Iraq will succeed. Its success will help transform the wider Middle East and give even greater meaning to Iraqi Freedom Day.

Lieutenant General Martin Dempsey we've had some great successes with Iraqi Ministry of Defense

Lieutenant General John Vines The solution to the situation in Iraq is not more U.S. troops, but more highly developed capability of Iraqi security forces

Major General Thomas Turner II The high voter turnout is a clear indicator that the citizens of Iraq not only have a strong desire for democracy, but they also have an increased sense of security, security that during the latest election was provided entirely by Iraqi security forces.

Major General Stephen T. Johnson USMC In the coming year in Al Anbar province, I think you're going to see continued progress in four key areas.

Brigadier General Rebecca Halstead we are seeing huge success

Better yet, let's count the total number of stars on "our side" versus "their side".

I agree that it's not a real strong agruement, but it is a talking point and liberals do make their conclusions from talking points.

Bet you will NOT see these generals making the rounds with the talking heads on the antique lamestream media.

The lame stream media is absolutely scared to death to show both sides of any issue as they are deathly allergic to the truth. And, if they actually show both sides, you can bet your bottom dollar that the side they do not agree with will be represented by someone who is an ignorant neanderthal.

The generals who have been critical of Rumsfeld have been giving such vague examples of reasons to force Rumsfeld to resign.

But, it's good to see Rumsfeld has alot of support in his corner.

The truth of your statement is so strong Grasshopper....that it has allowed you to snatch the pebble from my hand.

And we have DIVERSITY on our side. No women in their group. They must be misogynists, so we know that you don't have to listen to the opinions of misogynists

It is much better to snatch a pebble from the hand than to find a rock in the snatch.

Unfortunately, you can add the Perfume Prince, Wesley Clark, to the critical side.

My generals both outrank and outnumber the generals who support Ignatius' revolt. My generals have sent an unmistakable message to the WaPo: Get rid of Ignatius, or you will lose the war. :))

I saw one of the Generals on CNN the other day. His comments sounded like a campaign speech. I wonder how many of these Generals will wind up running for office this November?

Yeah, so they can have them. You can add General Tommy Franks to supporting Rumsfield.

Anyways, the rumor is Clark was forced out as Nato head for clashing with Sec. of Defense Cohen.

"I believe we need a fresh start in the Pentagon," retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste, who commanded the Army's 1st Infantry Division in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, told CNN cable network. "We need a leader who understands teamwork, a leader who knows how to build teams, a leader that does it without intimidation. You know, it speaks volumes that guys like me are speaking out."

Yes, it speaks volumes. Guys like you could not rise to the top, so you blame "mean people" for keeping you from obtaining your deserved 3rd or 4th star.

Rumsfeld is a great Secretary of Defense. He's done an outstanding job. For example, 50 million people in Afghanistan and Iraq have been liberated, both countries have had free elections, and we haven't had a terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9/11/01. Thousands of terrorists have been killed or jailed. Rumsfeld has done a wonderful job, particularly considering the degree of difficulty involved. We are lucky to have him.

Personally I think those retired Generals have a different agenda. I wonderwho they voted for in 2004, what politician they will support in 2008 and what position in a Democratic Presidential cabinet they would get, if that ever happened, in 2008. Makes ya wonder...

Well, it's obvious that most of them who have been critical of Rumsfeld, initially served under Clinton's administration.

Actually, the general is right is does speak volumes that guys like him are speaking out. It shows they lack the integrity and honor by giving aid to our enemies during time of war. Their words will be used as propaganda. By their lack of understanding this or by them doing this knowing their words will be used, shows how thankful we should be that they are no longer leading our troops during this war of civilizations.
