Hundreds of northwest Houston high school students walked out of class Monday to protest in the streets over efforts in Congress to crack down on illegal immigrants, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Students at Eisenhower High School started their protest march at their school, located at 7922 Antoine, and planned to end it at Interstate 45.
The House passed measures that would make being an undocumented immigrant a felony and erect a 700-mile fence along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border.
Many of the students said immigration reform hits close to home and they believe that it would be unfair.
"This is a country of immigrants. How are you just going to make a law and tell them to leave? You can't just do that," a student said.
"We're the hardest working people in the country and they're trying to take us away," another student said.
Lawmakers said the stricter regulations are necessary to improving homeland security and economic strength.
The students said the decision to walk out of school was made Monday morning.
Students at four Dallas-area schools also walked out of class in protest.
The Senate takes up the issue Tuesday.
Expell 'em. Make 'em prove legal residency to get back in. If they ain't legal, arrest 'em and send 'em back to where ever they came from.
Send them all to detention....I mean a detention camp for deportation.
I LOVE IT!
I don't understand the pride in speaking Spanish and condemning the Southwestern United States as being "stolen land".
The Spanish (from Spain) conquored the land that became Mexico and gave them that "invaders" tongue.
I hear how great they are for the economy yet I fail to see how money being sent out of the US economy to a foreign country "helps". Then again, the advocates of illegal immigration didn't like the concept of a trickle down economy.
And then what? That's three miles from the school.
Go back to Mexico and make Mexico A country you can be proud of. Stand up for your country, make Mexico a country YOU want to live in!. We all can't live in the good ole USA..
I am seriously considering crashing a Chavez march and present the face of communism. Maybe shock some folks into reality - the difference between him and Stalin and Mao was that he didn't have the resources to be a real commie ghoul.
Very true.
Implement the REAL plan: Go to the mall and hang out.
I recall, a few years ago, hearing some young adults speaking Spanish in a grocery store. A friend of mine and I started asking them questions about products - in German. If you will not speak English, then neither shall I.
bump!
Maybe I should attend the rally an behave like a real commie and "liberate property for the common good" (steal s**t) from folks there. "Officer, I did't steal that woman's purse, I reallocated capital for the use of the proletariat."
Amen, and amen!
Just passed one lone protester on SE Military Drive on my way to Brooks City Base. Hispanic girl (~14 y/o) waving a Mexican flag. I thought about calling the local truant officers, LOL!
Ah, Military Drive. Hearing street names from SA can make me a little homesick at times.
They're just skipping the classes Americans won't skip.
all by herself?
Very good...
Three miles would be roughly 13 holes on a 7200 yard course.
They probably aren't carrying golf bags either.
Amen to that brother. And I would add, I am sick and tired of the phrase "Illegal immigrants. Immigration is a legal process, not just a term for anyone here from another country. The term is illegal alien, dammit.
