Hundreds of northwest Houston high school students walked out of class Monday to protest in the streets over efforts in Congress to crack down on illegal immigrants, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Students at Eisenhower High School started their protest march at their school, located at 7922 Antoine, and planned to end it at Interstate 45.
The House passed measures that would make being an undocumented immigrant a felony and erect a 700-mile fence along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border.
Many of the students said immigration reform hits close to home and they believe that it would be unfair.
"This is a country of immigrants. How are you just going to make a law and tell them to leave? You can't just do that," a student said.
"We're the hardest working people in the country and they're trying to take us away," another student said.
Lawmakers said the stricter regulations are necessary to improving homeland security and economic strength.
The students said the decision to walk out of school was made Monday morning.
Students at four Dallas-area schools also walked out of class in protest.
The Senate takes up the issue Tuesday.
Imagine how much money we'd save the taxpayers if we could permanently return them to the nations where they are legal citizens!
Clue...Deport the ones absent.
Back when I was in school, we didn't need reasons to skip. We just did it cause we felt like it.
Lock the school doors and don't let them back in without a birth certificate or a green card.
Future Democrat voters!

Interesting how it's students that are protesting immigration reform. The part of the population that doesn't have to pay for all of the "rights to a better life" that are being reported in media. I'd be willing to bet that once they become tax-paying adults they'll be singing a different tune.
Further proof that kids ARE young skulls full of mush. Wanna bet that their indoctrinators, er, teachers "encouraged" this action?
Of course, high school students know everything. This was no set up, either.
/sarcasm
What about the Hub? Is all quiet on 19th Street, I wonder?
It's so easy to get high school kids to protest anything. Just tell them they'll get out of class for the day.
"high school students walked out of class Monday to..."
* go to the beach
* hang out at the mall
* get romantic with their boyfriend/girlfriend
* eat junk food and play video games
* make a political statement
Which one doesn't belong?
So, 2000 kids just up and decided to skip school in protest. I wonder what influence the teachers had on their 'spontanious' decision?
They should all be arrested for truency, and suspended for a week.
"This was no set up, either."
Well orchestrated "spontaneous" walkout.
That would work for me.
Getting a kid to cut school in the spring is really easy.
Children from China and India will eat their lunch.
Better for Texas to prosecute those who are here illegal than those who drink more than two beers at a bar and are charged with PI.
