The astounding sense of entitlement of some GTA commuters has left police shaking their heads after a woman was found sneaking onto the high-occupancy lanes with a fake baby in the back.
"She looked like the cat who swallowed the canary," OPP Sgt. Cam Woolley said of the woman who was pulled over yesterday. "She told the officer it normally works."
STIFF ARMS
Woolley said the cop was patrolling the HOV lanes of Hwy. 404 near Sheppard Ave. yesterday when he spotted an Intrepid whizz by and noticed the baby's arms seemed unnaturally stiff.
Not being sure, the officer decided to take a closer look and pulled the driver over.
The odd-looking child --Woolley likened it to a cartoon character from the show South Park -- was nothing more than a hooded jacket stuffed with clothing and strapped into an old car seat.
"We should have given her another ticket because the fake baby she had in there was too light to be in a forward-facing child seat," Woolley said.
"You can bet we'll be taking a closer look at all the babies we see in the next little while."
In fact, cops had expected to see similar scams turn up as soon as the popular HOV lanes -- which give commuters on sections of Hwys. 404 and 403 a swifter ride downtown -- opened last fall.
$110, 3 POINTS
"We're still writing a few hundred tickets each month," Woolley said of those abusing the lanes.
Cops think the woman ticketed yesterday, a 39-year-old Aurora resident, has children but none who need a car seat.
She faces a $110 fine and three demerit points.

Maybe if these liberals hadn't promoted abortion as a positive social good, she'd have a real baby.
Liberals!
HOV lanes are stupid and they don't accomplish anything.
I don't know what a demerit point is in open traffic..if you get so many, are you required to clean the chalk board at the local school? or do they kill you??
I rank this right up there with the "Animal Cops" shows. You have troopers analyzing the stiffness of a child's arms in the HOV lane, instead of perhaps observing and stopping a drug transaction, murder, rape, etc.
She took her case to court...and lost. Mainly, because her baby-to-be did not take up an extra seat in the car.
"Don't mind my kid -- he's just a big dummy."
Bad boys...bad boys...what you gonna do when they come for you?
Abolish HOV.
...."fake but accurate"
I have found them useful many times.
if a cars whizzing by at 60mph+.. how does an officer have the time to analyze the "stiffness" of the arm. and how would he see the arm of the child, most car doors come very high up and you can't really see whats going on inside below the window.
i call BS, cop just made up an excuse to pull her over.
"The astounding sense of entitlement of some".
I guess the "astounding sense of entitlement" now belongs to the government who want to regulate and penalize every bit of behavior by it's citizens.
It's laughable that the Dims in this country have their knickers in a twist about our government trying to listen in on the conversations of Islamofascist terrorists who are trying to kill us all, and yet day by day the governments erode our "rights" by penalties on trivial behavior.
Plus,.. special commuter lanes are elitist and cause worse traffic congestion, pollution and damage to our precious "environment".
Then should she have been fined for having another passenger on her lap?
Does that mean she was tested and found to be HOV Negative?
how does one enforce this?
