Ohioans won't support total smoking ban
Dayton Business Journal ^ | 3-8-06

Posted on 03/09/2006 7:30:59 AM PST by SheLion

Poll results released late Tuesday show most Ohioans favor a smoking ban that exempts bars, bowling alleys, private clubs and restaurants that reserve separate rooms for smoking.

The Ohio Licensed Beverage Association polled 600 voters and found Ohioans would reject a total smoking ban by a 52 percent to 46 percent margin.

But a majority of those polled support a modified ban, and 62 percent believe business owners should be allowed to determine their own smoking policies.

Locally, the city of Centerville implemented a smoking ban that went into effect last spring. Except for a handful of bars, restaurants and tobacco stores, the city's businesses are all required to be smoke-free.

Doesn't matter what the public wants, the anti-smoking Nazi's will forbid it everywhere.

Without a doubt.  How we let one coalition of people start dictating to the rest of us, I will never know.  I guess in the beginning, no one thought it could happen to them.

Well, it did happen and businesses have closed.  Now, the anti's want more states under their belts, but the business owners are finally seeing what has happened in the other smoke free states, and they don't WANT that for their own.

Any fight against the anti's is a good fight!

This is BS.

There was another poll earlier in the week that showed there was overwhelming support for it.

They have enough signatures, it will be on November's ballot and my wife and I will vote for it!

Poll Shows Ohioans Favor Smoking Ban

http://www.wcpo.com/news/2006/local/02/06/smoke.html

The poll also says that support for a smoking ban is strongest in northeast Ohio and among people over 65, college graduates and people with higher incomes.

Translation: Wiser and smarter folks know smoking is bad for you.

Although not yet regulated by law, the only public places in Ohio where indoor smoking is permitted are bars, sections of retaurants and private clubs. So, then, why the effort to ban smoking?

Any step towards a smoking ban is a complete smoking ban. Doesn't matter. Fedgov will mandate it nationwide withing 10 years or so and will hold highway money hostage to force states to comply. I can only hope that they really mess up and ban tobacco or alcohol entirely. That will bring our entire failed war on some drugs crashing down.

Why the effort?

Because liberalism is the horrific knowledge that someone, somewhere is having a good time.

You are going to vote for a state wide ban?  Why would you do that?  Why do you want to hurt the private business owners?  I can't understand some of you.

You say you are Conservative and yet you believe in more government intervention?  What is wrong with you?

You should be ashamed of yourself.  It's people like you that throw our state economy into tail spins and force poor people to close their businesses just because you don't like something.

For shame on you!

From trans-continental flights to domestic flights to no tv ads to no radio ads to no magazine ads, anyway they'll get their ban. If not all at once then a piece at a time.

And a 30-year-old wet-behind-the-ears kid knows what is better for ALL of us, I guess?

How do you sleep at night.  You better reconsider your political affiliation.

Because people like MikeWUSAF in Ohio hates smoking and his ilk are pushing for more bans to deprive the rest of the good people in Ohio who choose to use a legal product.

Pity.

"smokefreeohio" is not exactly an objective source for a poll.

Sorry, I'm more inclined to believe a poll from business which this BS is imposed upon than an outfit that gets money ONLY if they get bans passed.

Government intervention? Lady this is a voter referendum. That is about as democratic as it gets! People collect signatures and if there are enough it gets put on the ballot for citizens to vote on.

It would appear to me that Freepers such as yourself embrace democracy until it moves against something they like to do, i.e. killing themselves and others.
