Good Monday morning, fellow Freeper political junkies. One of the more ridiculous episodes of political theater is about to play itself out on the Senate floor, as the John Kerry-led democrats mount an exercise in political futility which will further expose their total irrelevance..So join us today, or drop in on occasion, for the festivities...

No allowance for proxy votes in Senate rules as far as I know.

I hope Hoosiers are paying attention! Bayh is NOT a moderate. He is just a liberal who talks softly and has execuive hair.

He's like any garden variety red state Democrat. Run as a conservative and legislate like a blue state loony tune liberal.

Maybe Kerry will get to speak again at 4, but only for a half-hour ...

At 4:00 - 15 minutes goes to Reid or his designate, 15 minutes then to Frist or his designate to close debate before the cloture vote.

The pretend filibuster was just a "money raising" tactic. The truth is: The Dems don't want the precedence and will use Alito as "proof" that they acted in good faith in 2006.

Any change in Roe will merely be touted as "see, we knew it". The Republicans did it.

They could care less about Alito. They want the Whitehouse and Congress.

I thought Sen. Kerry (D-Irrelevant) had 15 minutes left in his speech?

I hope Ensign's absence isn't important. We all know that if it was a Democrat who needed to vote, the crybabies would be demanding he be allowed to vote by proxy.

Well just the same, I called his Jeff office to let him know where I stand on the issue ;)

We should all make him feel the heat of being a red state dem.

Kit Bond up.
Not saying much but at least he's holding down the fort until 4:00 when Reid gets to talk for 15 minutes and yeilds to Frist.

Still, if Alito gets less than 60 votes to confirm, we will be rewarded come November. I'd bet on it. ;)

That's alright. It may hurt later but it will blow out all the Dem candles when he walks onto the floor today.

MAYOR LAFFEY UNSURPRISED BY CHAFEE’S LACK OF LEADERSHIP

Mayor Laffey lamented Senator Chafee’s announcement this morning that he will vote to oppose Judge Alito’s nomination in the Senate and cited the Senator’s announcement as further proof of Senator Chafee’s extremist positions.

It has been almost a week since the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send Judge Alito’s nomination to the full Senate. Almost all Republican Senators have announced their positions, and numerous moderate Democrats have come out in favor of the nomination. Senator Chafee’s indecision and now, his opposition, leaves one to wonder what his true intentions are. Snip.......

"I thought Sen. Kerry (D-Irrelevant) had 15 minutes left in his speech?"

Sen. Kerry D-Irrelevant had his 15 minutes back in 1971 and used it to show the world that he was a Marxist.

Whats your opinion...do the DEMS have the votes to derail Alito.

It's all done [Alito will be confirmed] but the voting. This is merely drama. The margins for cloture and for confirmation are fairly wide. Plus, a number of factors militate against bizarre shenanigans actually working.
