Ha, I was actually debating buying a banner at DU to point here:

I don't want to support them though despite the humor.

scroll half way down the home page - you are right...Not-For-Profit has a legal definition, but the following statment speakes for itself.

Who runs Free Republic?

Free Republic is not a for profit commercial enterprise in the sense of a traditional business selling a product or service at a profit for its shareholders. We sell no product or service. We have no clients, customers or employees. We do not accept paid advertising. Free Republic is not affiliated with any political party, group, news source, government agency or anyone else.

Maybe a "FreeRepublic is your Overlord" theme.

We should all pitch in to put a Free Republic Ad on the DU.

I'll donate! Perhaps we should hold a contest on what the add should say and look like. My suggestion (for the top of the page)--

"Are illogical arguements twisting your mind into pretzels? Tired of the silly opinions of the nutballs and freaks you see in the threads below? Just hate the smell of patchouli and unwashed ass? Come over the FREEREPUBLIC and find out who your boardmates are ranting and frothing about!"

I like this one, too! We need to add it to the banner we're going to buy.

I understand the distinction. But you feed an errant rumor about the site and it's fundraising when you post something like "FreeRepublic is a Not-For-Profit entity" without qualification. The whole statement on the home page gives a more clear understanding.

I'm a monthly donor and a happy one. But people get confused and some turn that confusion into suspicion.

It's not really my place to say more, I guess... I'm not FreeRepublic. Your main point about buying an ad at DU ~is~ a funny one. ;~D

We should all pitch in to put a Free Republic Ad on the DU.

You'd see how illusory their love of diversity truly is when they refused.

Democratic grassroots funding is so poor that whenever they need money they have to rely on George Soros and Theresa Heinz.

They're the party of the "little guy".
