FReeper Canteen~FReepers:Please post a Christmas message to our troops~Troops: for you~20Dec05
Hearts of FReepers | Troops: Thank you for your service! | Honor our troops

Posted on 12/19/2005 6:01:00 PM PST by GummyIII

To all who serve and have served  in our armed forces, at home and abroad:

There are never enough words to express how valuable and appreciated the services of our armed forces  are.  We, as a group of folks dedicated to the support and love of  our troops, cannot begin to thank you enough for what you do and have done to protect the rights and freedoms of our country.  Many people forget that "our country"  is not just the land on which we live, but that it includes the very lives of the folks who live upon this land.   Long have you fought for our nation.  Since we were attacked on September 11, 2001, you have selflessly fought against global terrorism and for democracy in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Both countries have now successfully held democratic elections!! What an outcome!  What a victory!  On top of that, you have affected far more than these two countries.  The Saudi's have held municipal elections, the Iranians are fighting back against the theocracy that rules them, the Jordanians are reforming their market economics, and  much, much more!

You are shining the light of liberty in the darkest of worlds.  Because of you, we remain free.  Because of you, we remain safe.  Because of you, we are strong.  Because of you, we have hope for a bright future for our children.  And, because of you, the children of Iraq and Afghanistan have the hope of a bright future.  What a gift you have given!  Thank you.

In this holiday season (the Christmas season for me and for many of you), we want to share our wishes, support, love, concern, thanks, and praise. Today, especially, you will read many such messages throughout this thread, and  each day as we support you.  Thank you for all you do.  This thread  is dedicated to you. The Canteen is dedicated to you. May you always be blessed, and may your families be blessed.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Holidays

Gummy and the rest of the Canteen

(FReepers, use this thread to share your messages to our troops. Your heartfelt words are what is important.  Graphics and HTML are welcome but not necessary.  Remember, a lot of our heroes are on slow connections!! )

To all who serve:  Here are some greetings to you from our Canteen folks.  Please continue to read the thread throughout the next 24+ hours for more messages in the progressing thread.

I don't know your name BUT I do know who you are.
YOU are a true Patriot and a Defender of our Freedom at home.
You choose to enlist when you did not have to.
You choose to put your life in harms way for us.
Know that at home there are millions upon millions
of people supporting YOU and your Brother and Sisters.
We will be waiting for YOU when you return.
May God watch over you and your Brothers and Sisters
in the military, no matter where they are stationed
or their job description.
Thank You for your service to our country.
Thank You for Standing the Watch."

"LUV W wants to thank all the members of our armed forces everywhere for the sacrifices you all make to keep our country safe from all forms of danger; and for protecting and fighting for democracy  around the world. God bless every service member at this Christmas season. I pray daily that you all will stay  safe and return to your families and your grateful country as soon as possible. Merry Christmas and happy  New Year to each and every one of MY HEROES!!!!"

To the Men and Women in our Armed Services

I say thank you to any I happen to bump into, but wish to take this opportunity, particularly at this special time of year, to extend my deepest thanks for all you do and all you sacrifice for the rest of us.  May God be with you.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year

Children laughing, faces aglow;
A kiss beneath the mistletoe.
Carols playing and being sung--
Christmas season now has begun.

For those with their loved ones
And those apart,
Christ's birth and its season
Is steadfast in each heart.

God bless those who love, support, and serve our country.

Merry Christmas!

Dear United States Soldier, Marine, allied solider and family member, My family sends our best wishes for a hopeful holiday season for you all. We are mindful that while we celebrate our holidays and carry out our own family traditions, that it is YOU who provide for our security. We know that even if you do not share our religious views, it is YOU who protect our religious celebrations. And so it is with a melancholy heart that we wish you a joyous holiday, a Merry Christmas, a happy Hanukkah and peaceful New Year. Melancholy because we are so proud of you and what you are doing for peace in other countries - and we rely upon you to keep the peace thru out the world, yet we will just not be the same until you are home with us. May God always hold you close- The DBR family

Dear American solider, family member and allied soldiers. Thank you for protecting America- I am proud of you. I hope you come home safe and soon! Please do not get any broken bones. Jimmy (DBR's son), age 7.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all of our Troops that celebrate. For those that don't, *Thank You* for defending our country. We are so unworthy of your sacrifice.

To all of our Troops in the sandbox or floating somewhere on God's Earth, GIVE'EM HELL!! Thank you for ensuring that America is the greatest place to live in the world. May God comfort each one of you during this holiday season.

Happy New Year! Stay safe!!
Thank you from The Sailor, hotstreak, Timmy, and MoJo2001

My heart-felt thanks go out to our military men and women serving around the world.  This Christmas Season, as every day, all are in my thoughts and prayers.  The same for the families who keep the home fires burning. Your part is just as important.  All of you are my heroes and your efforts and sacrifices are appreciated more than you may ever know. Thank you so much for ensuring our freedom. I have no other way to repay that debt other than to offer my full support.   I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas, and for our Troops, a safe return home to your loved ones.

Try this

INGREDIENTS:
1 (18 ounce) jar store bought mincemeat pie filling
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
2 apple - peeled, cored, and chopped
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup rum
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie

DIRECTIONS:
Combine mincemeat, walnuts, apples, brown sugar, lemon juice and rum in a bowl. Mix well. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
Take filling out of refrigerator and let come to room temperature. Prepare crusts. Stir filling well and pour into shell. Top with full crust and make slits or make a lattice top. Crimp edges.

Bake in preheated oven on low shelf for 40 minutes or until golden brown.

Stand back, big guy -- it's easy and delish!! LOL

REAL pulled pork is barbequed pork that's cooked till it falls apart and then torn in shreds. Pile it up on a bun with some slaw and vinegar barbecue sauce and it's pure heaven!!

I cheat and make it an easy way and it's still very good!!

1 3-5 lb. pork loin
1/4 -1/2 c. vinegar (I like a 1/2, LuvW thought it too spicy!)
1/4-1/2 c. tabasco sauce (ditto above)

Put in crock put for at least 8 hours -- the longer the better. When it's done, shred with two forks and return to liquid. To serve, either place on bun (with or without slaw) or just eat plain or with barbecue sauce.
