Everyone celebrates religion & holidays in their own individual ways, but currently there are questions abouth whether the two should be more connected. One of the latest places involved in the controversy is a McDonald's restaurant in Raleigh.
The sign at McDonald's on the corner of Falls of Neuse & Spring Forrest Road reads: "Merry Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season." It is a holiday message that Amanda Alpert thinks comes on a little too strongly.

Did you call them on the number I gave you?
I don't know the specifics of the McDonald's policy, but I know that all major U.S. consumer-oriented businesses have firm policies on these matters (note the recent media hoopla over chains that have explicitly banned employees from uttering the words "Merry Christmas"). McDonald's may choose to allow this particular sign on a franchisee's property, though I'm quite sure it wouldn't be permitted on the property of a company-owned store, and I seriously doubt it would be allowed at a franchise in a heavily Jewish area. The franchisee contract would certainly specify the corporate management's right to set limits on this sort of thing. This "Jesus is the reason for the season" sign in North Carolina may get the okay, especially since McDonald's does have some formal corporate activities which involve explicit mention of "Christmas". However, I stand by my assertion that an "Allah Akbar" sign at any McDonald's would be dealt with quickly and mercilessly.
Unless you are John McCain.
Nope, I've moved on to this morning's juicy government-and-religion story of the NYC health commissioner attempting to persuade some Orthodox Jews to stop letting mohels suck on their baby boys' penises. Seems it's an effective way of transmitting herpes . . .

Why can't they just buy chewing gum like everybody else?
Got news fur ya, y'all gave in on the seat belt thing. Y'all gave in on the smoking thing.
Why should this be any different?
It might take a bit longer, that's all.
Ewwww! I'm going to just skip that thread, I think.
They DO understand, the purpose is to "frame the debate" ala winning with words. (it is from that Dr. Fatso loonie leftiest guru)
The debate is now from should a business be allowed to NOT say christmas at christmas to can a business be PROHIBITED as a matter of law from using christmas at christmas. The effort is a propaganda tool to make the debate start at the point of the atheist.
I believe "Restaurabts" is Flemish for "I can't spell for shit."
"The effort is a propaganda tool to make the debate start at the point of the atheist.
"
Not this atheist. This is stupid, and is really a non-story. There is no provision in law that would allow the government to ban such signs, as long as a sign bearing messages is allowed in that jurisdiction, as it apparently is.
I can't see why the story was written in the first place. It will simply go away. We do have a Constitution in this country, and this private business has every right to post such a message if it wishes.
"I believe "Restaurabts" is Flemish for "I can't spell for sh!t."
Ah...I see. I guess I spoke too soon. I'm not fluent in Flemish. [grin]
She is absolutely correct. It should also give some credit by acknowledging Mary and the Holy Spirit, too.
The constitution can be bypassed via PC thought crime.
Just look at PC in general. How much speech and ideas are supressed in the fear of crossing some imaginary PC threshold.
why?
To the Left, anyone who "offends" must be silenced, the quaint notion of "Free Speech" be damned.
That is why Canadians are so satisfied with their self-stifling "hate" laws.

Here is a nice blog post about the situation.
What a stupid question. Private businesses can display anything from "JOHN 3:16" to "HAIL SATAN".
freeped, but it didn't look like it needed any help from us
