OTTAWA (CP) Prime Minister Paul Martin will venture into violence-plagued Toronto Thursday and announce a sweeping ban on handguns, Canadian Press reports.
Martin is scheduled to visit Toronto's troubled Jane-Finch area to make a "safer communities announcement."
Liberal sources have confirmed the announcement includes a ban on handguns.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. First, they can seize whatever assets they have in Canada. Second, a Canadian judgment can be taken to the US and enforced against their assets here. That's why I say they should leave Canada now. The due process clause precludes enforcement of a judgment which was obtained without "minimum contacts." If they aren't doing business in Canada, and they don't have property there, then there is no "minimum contacts."
Don't forget that ballots in Canada are still paper ones where you write an X next to the candidate of choice by hand. No room for election fraud there.
It has "city states" that call the shots for everyone.
The so called "Representative" voting may yet be passed in BC.
Even though the proponents lost using their own recommended voting rules in the last election, it was close and now they want to change the voting rules in their favor and try again in the next election.
I think that if that happens then the Canada-Italy comparison could become even more pronounced and BC will see interest "groups" (like the prostitute once elected to the Italian Parliament) gaining "representatives" in BC's provincial government.
As to Martin announcing a hand gun ban, it is more of the same divide and conquer politics.
They play urban against rural, blacks against whites, Christians against Muslims, Alberta against Newfoundland,French against English, Metric against Imperial, global conscience against global warming, blah, blah blah, blah.
It has always worked for Liberals.
Conservatives have broader ideas and are easily split.

How embarassing to have him as a Prime Minister. So, go after the guns instead of the criminal. Hmmmm, maybe he should ban SUVs while he's at it. Imagine how safe the 401 would be.
Canada: An apartment over a really great party.
Actually that is quite common. Before I moved to the U.S., I had to do that. If you live in a rural area, you can go to vote without being registered in adavnce. It seems that it is quite common for voter registration to skip or miss those of us who did not live in a city. Probably had to do witht the fact we had a rural route mailing address (i.e. no house number) or no one wanted to drive a mile down a gravel road to look for a house without a number. Every election, our house never recieved voter registrations and our whole family had to show ID and register at the polling location. Not only that, but it happened every election and even after we proactively registered. The election process in Canada is more corrupt than in NOLA.
This is going to hurt Paul Martin's campaign bigtime.
Hate to disagree with your pessimism. The USA is the last bastion of strength of western civilization. If not for RWR, we would not be. And because of GWB, we will continue to be.
Hey Torontoans - I'll take em!
Martin HIMSELF can't ban handguns. He is NOT the KING!! Good God Canada - WAKE UP!!!!!!! Anyone who turns in a single hand gun is an IDIOT!!
"Look at the crime stats there (Australia, UK) to divine the effect a gun grab will have in Canada..."
Hi, CG.
The liberals don't care. As long as THEY are protected by electronic barriers and gorilla-faced men with submachine guns, they don't care about the "little people."
"Beyond this point you are in TEXAS"
Visited Texas for the first time last March. I really LIKED it there. San Antonio.Texians are really a fine bunch. I live in Vermont but if I ever move, it will be Texas.
>is from Lasalle, ON which is a suburb of Windsor (or suburb of >Detroit more probably)
>Please explain.
Lasalle, ON is on the opposite side of the Detroit River from Detroit, MI. It is next to Windsor, ON. Without Detroit investment (auto industry and ancillary industries) Windsor would be a nothing ghost town. Large Canadian companies refuse to invest so far away from their beloved GTA.
>The election process in Canada is more corrupt than in NOLA.
I have some friends who lived in an apartment building with high turnover and people literally received 15-20 voter cards per mailbox. So they had a contest, who could vote the most. They stopped at 10 each.
The voting system is so open to abuse in Canada is probably violates some UN voting transparancy rule.
