TRY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT -- THOSE WERE EMPTY WORDS [The Presidnet's Amnesty Program]
Neal Boortz ^ | Nov. 29, 2005 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:25:04 AM PST by conservativecorner

Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:

We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!

As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.

George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.

I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.

Not sure I agree with your assessment. I, too, think the President is pussyfooting around this issue and wish he would do what needs to be done.

I heard two things yesterday (can't recall if it was radio or on Fox) that caught my attention; "Hardened borders" and that a majority of Mexicans believe it's their right to come into America (illegally?). The former I need to think about but I'm not opposed to it right off the bat. The latter I can't decide if it surprises me or not.

And where is the Hispanic leadership on the issue of illegal immigration? I would think that those that went through the process of legal immigration would take issue with what's going on.

Obviously I need to put this issue higher on my "homework" list.

Oh yeah this constant 100% hyper criticism of our own side really helps move the agenda. But that right! The Whine all the Time Choir thinks it "helps" by doing the Democrats PR dirty work 100% of the time. Gee I can see that Bush should really want to "Go to war" with the Democrats when his army spend ALL their time shooting at him instead of the enemy.

Most of us Freepers are beginning to wonder just who's side the 100% Complainers REALLY are on??????

Illegals are subsidized labor -- subsidized by the taxpayers who end up paying their health care, social services and educational benefits.

The main beneficiary is businesses who force the taxpayers to subsizide illegals by paying the illegals' health care, social services and educational benefits.

Cute. Thanks so much for showing me the error of my ways. I promise to never ever ever question anything that Bush (or you) ever say or do, or to ever think for myself. I see now that life can be so much easier the way you live it...gratefully swallow everything they dish out and play with cartoons.

I guess these folks expect the dog catchers to get out there and round up 13 million people with their nets and trucks and haul them out of "their" country.
What a simple idea. Problem is it will never happen. Something needs to be done to track these workers WHO HAVE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS and Bush is trying to do that. The reason even Reagan chose amnesty at one point ought to point out to people the great difficulty in this issue.
Again another republican divider. "Do as I say or else" kinda thinking. No wonder we are considered intolerant and hateful.
I suggest those of you so comfortable in your American homes might consider what it would be like not to be so LUCKY to be born to this country and desire freedom. And the sanctimony of those crying "do it legally" is very easy to say.
I am sick of you "conservatives" sometimes.

No that would be you and a few fellow globalist, f--K America, new-world- order types. Most Americans are worried about which country our government really serves, and what it will take to stem the flood, expense, criminal and security concerns posed by illegal immigration.

If the GOP embraced a hard line position on illegal immigration and campaigned on that issue they would not only remain in power for a generation but increase their majority. It's an issue we don't have to worry about the Dems co-opting and it's one that has the support of up to 80% of the voters. Get some brains and a backbone, Republicans!!

I'd be perfectly happy to pay an extra 25 cents per pound on chicken parts if it meant that American citizens were getting paid a living wage to cut those birds apart. You know those surveys that ask, "Are you willing to pay more for better quality products?" Well, I'm one of those folks that will save up a bit more to pay a bit more for an item that will last longer. I'm willing to pay a bit more for an economy that will last longer .... one built on decent wages paid to my fellow citizens. Hell, I guess my neighbor might have to even mow his lawn or clean his pool himself, or maybe make his teenager do it. Or get it done less frequently.

Actually, an honest review of the situation shows most legal immigrants of Hispanic descent overwhelmingly support making "immigrants" doing it the legal way.

Is W doing what you want about this? If the answer is yes you might want to consider changing parties.

So those of us that agree with the President have to change parties? Why? Our guy is in the White House. Why would I want to change when the Republican Party works for me?

It's hilarious how the hate-Bush crowd think THEY are the real Republicans when they couldn't elect a dog catcher. Then they demand supporters of the Party leave the Party -- if we don't, then they'll form a Third Party and show us by helping to elect Hillary Clinton just like they helped elect Bill in 1992 by supporting Ross Perot.
