George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community.
Our legal residents are opposed to illegal immigration; the real driver are the corporate political contributions from those who benefit from cheap illegal labor. It is these companies and their officers who should be investigated, fined, and convicted, and jailed.

I believe there is another reason why he wants Amnesty for these lawbreakers....wish I could figure out his real angle.

But, he's RIGHT.
President Bush keeps pushing a failed idea (amnesty, any way you look at it) that won't fly with most Americans. Every time he speaks about immigration, he encourages people to flood our borders.

the real driver are the corporate political contributions from those who benefit from cheap illegal labor. It is these companies and their officers who should be investigated, fined, and convicted, and jailed.Agreed but it takes a lot more than just hitting a couple of high profile companies (e.g., Walmart). And people have to be willing to suck up the higher prices... starting with landscaping, construction, hotel/motel rates, dinners on the town, the cost of clean rest rooms, etc, etc. This all takes time and considering the economy that Bush inherited is there any wonder that he didn't immediately decide to further encumber business by forcing them to pay higher wages to legals? If anyone is serious about addressing this problem they have to have the patience to see it through and "complete the mission" and not fall prey to cheap one-liners about shipping them all back.

Bush is fast becoming a threat to our Country, looking at his actions (except for tax and terror war) I would think he is a liberal democrat. big spending -big gov-hand outs rx bill, increase Dept of Education with Kennedy bill..wanted Ms Miers for SCOTUS, still waiting to see what our new SCOTUS will rule - loss of property rights on his term and millions of illegals flooding the country..do we think he is anything but a liberal in RINO clothing??

If the GOP want's votes that's fine BUT they better think, which is better their loyal base (which got them elected) or pandering to the illegals? Will it REALLY be worth it if red states suddenly turn purple? Or is it NOT the choice of the entire GOP just President's Bush's idea for his FAILED plan?

The people have demonstrated their willingness and ability, to absorb a price shock, by paying for higher gas prices these last several months; and, it is not the bottom rung on the economic spectrum that worries about the costs of services at the Marriot country club.
