WASHINGTON (AP) - Two crucial pillars of President Bush's public support - perceptions of his honesty and faith in his ability to fight terrorism - have slipped to their lowest point in the AP-Ipsos poll.
While the CIA leak investigation, the mishandling of Hurricane Katrina and high energy costs have all taken their toll, the polling found the Iraq war at the core of Americans' displeasure with the president.
All of those concerns are cutting into traditional Bush strengths.

Sorry if it is not popular on FR, but its pretty clear to me that the polls that show the President with sub 40% approval ratings are accurate. I suspect at least some of that is because some folks don't trust him anymore (and many folks probably didn't trust him to begin with).
I don't know why Freepers have a hard time accepting the clear fact that the President has a popularity problem, which compromises his ability to get things done. It's clear as day - and that's one reason he came out swinging on Friday.
Which is a good thing.

Bush: "Islam is a religion of peace." etc.

Weighted polls aren't accurate.
This was a weighted poll!
You agree with it, so you claim that it is accurate.
That places YOU in denial.
But yes, it IS is good thing that the president and his team came out "swinging" today; however, it will NOT change the minds of the Liberals and the MSM gave it little to no play.
To: nopardons
Bush's approval rating clearly is around 40%. Several polls clearly show that. They can't all be wrong.

You've been here far too long to believe what you just wrote.
Polls have been so wrong, fir so long, that it's mind numbing; yet YOU believe polls?
Tell me this, does this country have a substantial registered Dem majority? The answer is no. Yet this poll and most polls are weighted/Dem top-heavy.
To: nopardons
LOL, forget it, its just FR's "class of 98".
They revel in low polls and want you to do the same, because you see if you just admit that the President is a failure then somehow your depression will mind-meld with the WH and Congress and force them all to suddenly become more conservative. And then somehow all the Dems that get polled will raise the Pres approval rating.
Simple.

Rush said, "Clinton's numbers were in the sixties during the impeachment. It's EASY to get high poll numbers when you're not doing anything; taking on controversial issues. Like terrorism, and the like."

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey...I'm a part of FR's "class of 98" and let me tell you something, most of us are NOT the KOOKBURGER doom&gloomers !

"the polling found the Iraq war at the core of Americans' displeasure with the president."Unfortunately, the polls are parroting the MSM which has quite effectively brainwashed far too many Americans.

There is more to life than just Iraq. I don't need a 9/11 video every day of my life to keep me focused. The Dems would love it if the only thing Bush talked about was the war and nothing else.
Before the shooting started I told my wife I would not be concerned about the war until we reach between 3,000 and 5,000 killed in action, then I would question if we were fighting the war properly or not. Couple years later and we are not even close to 3,000.
If President Bush would have told the American people before the war that we could expect soldiers killed and that it could be between 3,000 and 5,000 then right now the left would have absolutely nothing to be crapheaded hysterical about.
That's the only thing Bush should done different as far as I am concerned. It is the ETERNAL SHAME of the democraps the way the make the worst politics possible, not President Bush's fault at all. That is why Bush was reelected.
To: Jacob Kell
It AP. In case you all missed it, this same poll last year told us it was "President Kerry" in a landslide. This quite possibly is the LEAST accurate poll you could pick.

think the polls are accurate, on balance.
Right DNCMan, that is why this poll told us all last year it was "President Kerry" in a landslide. Because it is "So accurate".

To: Jacob Kell
He should go all out and show that the Left are the real liars.
Yeah, that kind of perpetual campaign mode worked so well for Clinton. Amazing how some "Conservatives" want Bush to be a Clinton clone. Sorry Bush is President of the USA, NOT your favorite talkshow host. Expecting him to act like a talking head is silly.

I think the demise of the MSM has been greatly exaggerated. Clearly the can still manipulate public perception.
AS they lose power they become more desperate. The attacks on W are for the most part baseless.
W must accelerate his communiction directly to the people or he will be finished, already the quislings in congress are running away from these manufactured polls.
