Paris police fear rioters' heavy arms (French fear muslim guns and grenades)
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | November 7, 2005 | Jennifer Joan Lee

PARIS -- Police officers, exhausted and dispirited after 11 nights of street battles, say their mainly young African and Arab adversaries have access to sophisticated weapons including grenades and could soon begin using them. A dozen officers were injured, two of them seriously, after being shot with hunting rifles fitted with lead pellets during rioting last night in the suburb of Grigny, south of Paris, police said. Jean-Christophe Carne, president of a police trade union, told The Washington Times before last night's outbreak that police officers were increasingly pessimistic that civic order would be restored anytime soon. "Most of these kids are being coached by professional petty criminals and gang leaders in the suburbs," said Mr. Carne, president of Action Police CFTC. "In the past, when we have cracked down on these criminals in their homes, we found drugs, grenades and heavy weapons such as guns. While they haven't started using these arms yet, there's also no reason to think they wouldn't."

Wonder how actor Johnny Depp and his family that are supposedly residing in France feel now? Johnny thought the USA was unsafe and not sophisticated enough for him and his kids.

I also wonder what all the others in Hollywood are really thinking about the Good Old USA now to?

I'm beginning to wonder whether the French are indeed too timid to confront these rag heads. If they are, these friends of Kerry are done.

Well, that's the question du jour, pun intended.

At some point they will have to or France will fall. Just as in a mob fight, if the initial combatants are not contained, then others will view it as license to join in. Then at some point there isn't enough organized resistance to overcome the mob.

In this case civil war would be the result. In many ways it can be argued that as close to a perfect society that is possible and that we've had, one characterized by a general peace since the last world war, is the undoing of those that would succomb to these muslim thugs. Many have gotten too soft IMO.

As undesireable as it may be to admit, someone's gonna have to decide that deaths to the insurgents are likely to occur if this situation is to be controlled. Then there will be an even greater response from the Muslim world which will need to be dealt with via an even larger blow to whatever contingent pursues that one. just as in all other wars, which this is, a war, one side wins when the other is subdued.

Muslims seem a lot more apt to be the subduers in these conflicts for whatever reasons and largely built upon teachings that this is their purpose in life which have likely been ingrained into them during their most impressionable years.

France's, our's, and the world's problem is that we somehow assume that it's our responsibility to see to it tha their militant and terroristic teachings are reversed by us and at our expense in spite of the fact they won't be no matter how hard we try. At least not en masse.

Please read "Among the Believers: An Islamin Journey" by VS Naipaul. This book gives us an exellent idea of what modern Islam is all about (hint: it is not very different from 7th century Islam). Incidently, Naipaul won the 2001 Nobel Prize for Literature. He is brutally frank and honest; little wonder that most Muslims HATE his guts.

Probably we should, calling it "Le Intifada" would have the added benefit of upsetting the French because we didn't elide the article onto the initial vowel to make "L'intifada."

I like your comments. I also think the French have hamstrung themselves by lecturing us that words not war is the way to peace. Of course, as we know, words only egg on the mohammedan fascists. The only word they understand is the crack of gunfire headed in their direction.

300 cities! That sounds out of control.

Odd there haven't been any deaths.

Sure, automobiles were invented by non-Muslims. And how many auto assembly plants are there in the Muslim world?
(However many it is, I bet they don't make Peugots, Renaults, Citroens or 4CV's.)

(Besides, most Frenchmen are functionally atheists even if they were baptized, and thus don't even qualify for dhimmitude.)

"Rioters in the southern city of Toulouse set fire to an empty bus Monday evening, then pelted police with firebombs and rocks, an official said. A 61-year-old man died of wounds sustained in the spreading violence, the first fatality in 12 days of civil unrest that has shocked the country."

Because that's where their comfort zone is.

And they believe they are the David, as in David and Goliath? I can't fathom how they can believe that primitive terrorism can sink civilization. Why are they the only people on earth who are not happy with progress?

"Among the Believers: An Islamin Journey"

Thanks. I'll order it. don't know when I'll get to read it, though, now that I'm working of a stack of "must reads" 30 books high. My bad.

Why do you think France is disarmed?

In France, you can purchase and own a hunting rifle without a license and without registration.

Other weapons, such as military-style weapons and handguns, need to be registered.

But France's gun laws concerning hunting weapons are probably more relaxed than American laws on the subject are (in the US there are complicated interstate transport laws, etc.).

Where do people get these ideas?
There is a template out there: France = socialist = no liberties of any type, and no guns.

It's not true. The French like to hunt. Always have. There are lots and lots of hunting weapons in France, unregistered, unlicensed, and they are easy to get too.

Have you read Beyond Belief: Islamic Excursions among Converted People, a later book of his? I've just run into it and it looks like a good companion read.
