Going to war, more than job opportunities and money for college, is the post-September 11 allure for joining the armed services, military officials say. And, in a trend that bewilders and dismays those opposed to the war in Iraq, enlistment numbers are up and recruiting goals are mostly being met or exceeded.

The Army had a couple of months when they fell slightly short of recruiting goals, and the MSM proclaimed that "Bush's war" was causing young people to avoid military service.
Now that all branches, including the army, are doing just fine recruiting our finest young citizens, how many articles do you think the NY Slimes or the Wash. Post will run on the strong enlistment #s, not to mention the re-enlistments.
Answer: None.
The MSM consistently, methodically, and deceitfully does everything it can to make America lose this war, just like in Vietnam. Thay are traitors, pure and simple. And deserve to be treated as such.
God bless the men and women who volunteer to fight. And in a good country, it is war that make them want to fight. A good and just war, that we are winning handily, thanks to them.
Nonsense. When you have enemies that deserve to die, it is a high honor to dispose of them.
As George S. Patton said: I fight where I am told and I win where I fight. That is the purpose of the American soldier. You ever see the movie "Patton?" That opening speech was cobbled together from actual speeches made by General Patton. Every branch of the military exists to support the infantry (including Patton's beloved Armor Branch)....those sleepy eyed little 18 yr old boys cradling their M4's and fingering the pins on hand grenades...the killers. I was trained for nearly fourteen years between active and reserve duty to do one thing: To KILL the enemies of my country as quickly and efficiently as posible. That's the key though....Enemies of my COUNTRY. If I wanted to just kill anything, I'd be quite the serial or spree killer. I have spent time as both an infantry and armor officer. Heck, after my active service I stopped hunting deer and elk. I am a certified firearms instructor and combat competitor (as well as a former LEO), because I personally feel those skills taught to me by my Uncle Sam will be called into actual use in my lifetime here on US soil against a terrorist enemy. Well, not to mention the certified bad guys who are always looking for a victim.
I guess FR does have it's share of liberals....
Everything that needed to be said about this seems to already been said by previous replies to your post.
All I can add to their posts is DITTO.
Well said. And thank you for your service.
And, TOm Daschle is deeply saddened.
You assume that he is a sociopath and not a patriotic MAN chafing at the bit to do the job that he was trained to do.
His post makes me think that he is the first. Did you or do you now serve in the military? Do you understand the warrior's determination to be the one to do the job that needs doing?
"Believe me , the ones I have known had no idea ... nor did they care ... what the conflict was." It is not a soldiers job to know what the conflict is, it is his job to perform as per his training and to win.
I'm starting to see some anti-war sentiments creeping into these threads. War is hell and should only be taken on when absolutly nesessary. Better to take them on in their world than fight them on our turf. ( SEE FRANCE )
What kind of liberal POS are you?
Excellent post. My Grandfather served in the 3rd Army as an MP and met General Patton twice. The stories I could tell.......... Anyway, he had nothing but 100% respect for Patton. Hell, Patton actually loved war - the perfect anachronism.
There was NOTHING wrong in our prosecution of the war. We had it won in about three weeks. Where we've had trouble has been in winning the peace. Countering guerilla activity is very difficult. Ask the British from 1775 or the US Army from 1965.
If you listen to the enemedia MSM you'll think we've botched it but we haven't but then I'm talking to buddies who have put in multiple tours over there. I'd give anything to be an IRR Armor major. I'd deploy in a heartbeat because I want to utilize my skills and training and I want to share the risk. I love my country and what we're doing over there is keeping terrorists from doing the same thing here.
LOL There's a difference? They both enjoy the fruits of freedom built on the spilled blood of better men, and continue to let others do the dying for them, to enjoy the fruits of continued freedom.....
So true. I recall my brothers "playing war" as little boys. They would draw their "inventions" for stealth battles. Some of them were very creative weapons of war. Now, this was in the age before TV. How is it that they were just naturally drawn to play battle? My father was a nerd school teacher.

I know plenty of strong conservatives who are pacificst. Seventh Day Adventists, Quakers, Amish, some Mennonites are pacificist, but in all other respects are the strongest conservatives you will ever find.
I wish it were possible to convince them, but to do that requires a one-on-one, not a label that pushes them into the other camp. You can reason with most by making it personal and identifying their responsibility to family, and expanding from there.
Wow, I am in a quandry. All of me agrees with you that they should shut up and move, and all of me also feels they have free speech to detest killing.
I served to protect there right to be wrong.
I think the key is the Freedom of Speech. Say what you like, but when our national survival is on the line....serve (in any useful capacity) or get out. That's why I support at least one year mandatory federal service for every high school grad in order to do anything....get a job or go to school.
Thats sick. It's one thing to do your duty.
It is one's duty for a soldier kill the enemy.
Why is it "sick" to be dedicated to doing one's duty?
You should be on your knees thanking someone like ExSoldier for having the courage and patriotism to do that kind of duty.
