Yes, it will probably take the Nuclear Option to get him through.
Like I said before, the president has taken all the heat lately and its time for those spineless Senators to stand up. If this pick doesn't happen know one can blame the president this time.
I expect the gang of 14 to try and hijack the Senate and the spineless Republican Senators will let it happen until the pressure becomes to strong from the conservative base to let it continue.
I think most of us will be in agreement with this pick making the base strong and if not for the president, at least for the nominee.
I support the president and our troops, and they deserve our support.

Specter: "oy vey AM I CONCERNED ABOUT ALITO!!" Going to be hard to do that when he was one of the Senators that voted to confirm him to his existing Judgeship.

Re RBG..that's why I said "hang on"...If her health permits, she will have tremendous pressure to "hopefully" allow HRC to name her replacement..GAAK....Stevens is 85, and though spry and in good health..some at that age want to work until the last day on earth...see Rehnquist..others..may want a more relaxed schedule for their final years..

Mark Levin posted on another thread, saying that he thought Alito would be an "outstanding" pic (Lutting as well, BTW). He's known Alito for several years. I trust his judgement.
To: peyton randolph
Wanna bet? I predict Frum, Krauthammer and Coulter will all support him enthusiastically. Why wouldn't they? Who do you think they really wanted?
Seriously, wanna bet?
I'm trying to figure out where you're coming from? Are you a still-disappointed backer of Harriet Miers?
To: paudio
We don't. I hope. But the Dems love to make a point about religion. It happened in Robert's confirmation hearing. There are some elements who are suspicious about anything having to do with the Catholic church. Some here on FR have claimed the Pope is the anti-christ.
It's just something to expect to be used to spook people.
If Alito is rejected, I hope W sends Janice Rogers Brown next.

Very good pick, Mr. President!
Now the Republicans in the Senate can prove they are the majority by really facing the Democrats if they filibuster.

Oh, yeah, I totally agree. Ann and all the pundits will be completely on board this time.
To: johnny7
Glad you put up the list. Not only do these people have to vote for the nominee but they will also have to vote to change the rules to break a fillibuster.

For what it's worth, I share your concerns.
Nevertheless, this is a wise hill to choose to fight on, IMHO.
It's high time we had it out in this venue with the liberals; the base (myself included) is spoiling for a good fight along these lines. I look forward to it.
FRegards to you, also, BTW.

Ha! They smelled a rat. And they were proven correct.
I personally didn't watch it very closely, because it was obvious that conservatives were checking her over with a fine-toothed comb. Frankly, there was so much not known in the early phase, it was hard to pay attention when they went off 21 hours a day, 5 days a week, and hardly any info to go on at that point.
He didn't properly vet her, and now we know why, because if he did, he knew it would stink. That's the thing about appointments: they reveal something about you. And not properly vetting should be a red flag-- even more revealing. That's one thing Clinton taught me well.
People have the tools here to learn something about Bush. But naturally, they will only cherry-pick the tools that they prefer.
