I wonder why it said "Indicted" in the copy posted here. I hope that wasn't intentional.

Why does she deserve respect? What in her life has she accomplished that would make her immune from criticism? Give me a break.
To: borkrules
But there were some here that were throwing the likes of Ronald Reagan under the bus in order to try to make the case for Miers. Enough said.
I know. And I didn't like that either.
btw, Bork DOESN'T rule. He didn't make it.....

I think JRB is absolutely the best answer for this administration at this time.
A smart, experience, black, conservative female would be much harder for the MSM and the democrats to attack.

Yeah it was a brilliant stroke by minority of conservatives that made up the anti-Miers crowd. Now, Bush has zero political capital, and has been undermined by the same people who supposedly voted for him last year. If the new nominee fails on the floor because they're too conservativ for the democrats and the RINOs, it's the fault of the gloating anti-Miers lynch mob. This will be remembered if that happens, and those who caused it will be pegged as conservative traitors, and rightfully so.

Frankly, I don't see much difference between what was done to this woman and what liberals do to conservatives.
LOL........ politics spreads both ways. Both sides of the wingers [left/right] can be just as vicious, imo.
The Presidents attempt to put someone on the court without a lot of controversy backfired on him and now he has to make some very thoughtful decisions on the next one. My guess is it will not be one of the wingers favorites but rather a consensus pick after visiting with some key Senators from both sides and basically getting a back door okay that the nominee will get a hearing and an up/down vote. Just my opinion.

I won't be on this Web site anymore because you guys disgust me as much as the Libs disgust me. Please leave an opus on your way out. I enjoy opus threads.

Yup, there are name-callers in here today, and mostly from the anti-Miers side. I'll grant you that. Of course, when the thread is populated 10-1 with anti-Miers people, there are just more opportunities for name-calling. Doesn't make it right, just makes it more likely. The Pro-Miers crowd aren't behaving like angels on here either. I've seen a few instances there as well. "Doofus" is a recent, albeit mild, example.
Look, my point is that no one is being denied their voice in here. They aren't being listened to, they are being disagreed with, but that's perfectly acceptable. The name-calling, as crass as it is, is unfortunately a part of internet life. There are millions of people who will say things online they'd never say to someone's face. It happens to you, to me, to everyone. To me it speaks more to that person than it does to me (although in full disclosure mode, I occasionally get caught up in it as well). That's not censorship, however, a point with which you agreed in your last reply.

Let's hope the Dems are shortsighted enough to nominate Kwesi Mfume. This is peripheral to the Miers thread (and certainly a lot will be written about this race as it develops), but I don't see Kweisi getting enough support in the Maryland primary. Moderate black Dems will realize that to win, the Dem candidate needs to get a lot of the white vote, and Kweisi won't get that. So Cardin is the likeliest Senate candidate. He's anti-charismatic, so I suggested in another (short) thread that he'll ally himself with a charismatic gubernatorial candidate, who he probably hopes will be O'Malley. Expect a lot of joint appearances in the campaign and a general "Take Back/Protect our State" theme. It'll be easier for Cardin to run against the Ehrlich administration than Steele directly, because he risks being undermined by Steele's charisma and somewhat of a reverse black backlash if he questions Steele's qualifications. And I hate to say it, but I think there are Eastern Shore and western MD white GOP members that will find it a little difficult to vote for Steele directly (being on the Ehrlich ticket was one thing, but by himself...)
There are so many potential triangulations possible in this race that its going to be fascinating (and frustrating).

Ever heard of free speech and democratic (in the good sense) process? These were exercised and appropriately.Free speech. Great. All for it. I'm exercising mine right now. When a person who has led an exemplary life is called a pig; and has her sexuality called into question (just look earlier on this very thread); and is characterized as dumb and not from the right schools, etc., THAT is not appropriate.
I may be the last person standing who wants to CONSERVE the role of the "common man" in government, but so be it.

Is E.D. Hill a believable source? She said on the day of the nomination that she was hoping against hope it would be Al Gonzales, and when it was Harriet Miers she was overjoyed.

Yeah lets put up a pro-choice Libertarian who has some very unconservative views. Brilliant. THIS is why the anti-Miers crowd CANNOT be trusted as the REAL social and ideological conservatives. They chant Janice Rodgers Brown and don't even realize how liberal some of her views are. SUre, let's have Brown, a darker skinned femals souter. Good choice.
