Howlin, SHE quit. No one was going to stop the Senate hearings. We voiced our opinions, as is our right, she saw the handwriting on the wall, and quit, as is her right. We have a say in this, and they can stay in and fight or quit.

Had she not quit, she would have gone to the hearings and probably, although by a slim margin, been confirmed. There were no jackbooted UberCons blocking the way for her to have hearings, we just complained. We had every right to do that, and I don't feel bad about it one bit.

However, she won't be the first or last nominee for anything that withdraws. It's now time to regroup and move on.

It is time to move on, but I can't forget the fact that she was denied her right to the American process. That's what I'm having a hard time over coming, that, and that some FReepers can't see that's what's happened.

That is a down side, but it is still better to get the long-term advantage of a well qualified Associate Justice who will serve for a long time and make lots of big damn decisions, than the alternative.

Couldn't Sandra Day O'Connor withdraw her resignation?

They'll snear, "He can't even control his own supporters anymore."

But in fact, he does control them. When he gives them a mushy-middle nominee, the supporters object; but when he nominates a strict constructionist, they rally in support!

Not THAT is what I call having control!

As a "Bushbot" I have no problem with Miers withdrawing, the crowing is coming from the Anti-Miers crowd. I am not ashamed of myself, nor should I be.

The crowing might be because the 'Anti-Miers' crowd has spent three weeks being told to shut up, get real, and be good little conservative doormats for Bush...

Settled. I will never buy an Apple product. I will think differently in a different way.

"Now Bush has been completely undermined for the rest of his term. Thanks guys."

Wait a minute. Bush is undermined every day by the Left, the Democrats, and most of the news media. Nominating someone who appeals to his base will make him stronger.

You are correct -- that speech she gave in 1993 was very telling -- not someone I wanted on the Court. Before then, I wanted hearings but after reading that speech, my mind was changed.
I would like a Conservative REPUBLICAN (not someone who had been an Indy for years) who is also a strict constitutionalist who I expect we will get this time around!

Is that post suppose to make sense?

If so, you failed.

Right wing "conservatives" cannot win without the middle of the road conservatives, you know, the ones you sneer at.

Don't believe me: see the Reform Party or The Constitution Party.

Here's a scenario for ya: W's next nominee get smacked down by the Dems+McCain+Spectre+Snowe+Collins+Hagel+Chaffey+...... Then what, huh?!?!

Then we send a MORE conservative nominee, and so on.... One of them WILL get in.

Why is it unbelievable..what reasonable human being could withstand what has been thrown against them the last month. Who could blame her...it's been a despicable display from our side.
