Greetings, fellow "reactionary cohort."

How goes the Glorious Revolution, tovarich?

Bush knew the Dems would go after his next nominee... Bush and Harriet are good friends and she knew the next nominee would take some heat, and she was willing to do that. ... [Meirs] will bow out so Bush can appoint his real choice Janice Brown. After the Dems made fools of themselves over going after Harriet...they will let Brown sail through and Harriet will have loyally "fallen on her sword" for George.

MomwithHope, you said it so much better than I did (post 637). I agree 100% with your theory (post 917). Bytheway, here's the link to when you first proposed it.

Name one conservative who argued against giving her an up or down vote. What was suggested, and apparently followed, was that Miers spare herself the confirmation hearings. Not because she wasn't ENTITLED to an up-or-down vote, but because it was suspected that such a vote wasn't in HER interest.

I don't know if any conservative said she wasn't entitled to an up or down vote, but conservatives were running ads against her BEFORE they even had hearings. Again, I was not a big supporter of this nomination, but these ads being run crossed the line, imo. They made sure it wasn't in her interest to continue.

I'd be perfectly happy to reduce the President's role to that of war manager for the remainder of his term... everything else he has touched has turned to crap, like a Roto Rooter version of the Midas touch.

Did anyone catch Diane Feinstein's comments this morning? I'm paraphrasing.. 'what's most troubling about this development is that the far right wing thinks they should have a say in the nomination process'.

What a witch.

"It is evil to attack the President's character because he doesn't do everything you want, and dot every i the way you want him to."

The attacks were on JUDGEMENT, not character.

Pro-Miers arguers attacked his character by suggesting that after Miers, he'd appoint a real loser just to "show us." Apparently the Miers supporters don't think much of his character!

Great news for our side! I am sure hoping Dubya gets serious and decides to face down our domestic enemies on the left side by appointing a true Conservative and originalist.

Just as I predicted. W is now perceived as severely weakened and wounded.

Well, since I was correct in predicting a few weeks back that Miers would eventually withdraw, I'll go for prediction #2: le affair Miers will be forgotten by Monday, Bush will nominate a strong constructionist, the conservatives & moderates will rally round ready to fight, and Bush's numbers will be back over 50% within 2 weeks.

the liberals will TRY TO block the nomination.

There, I fixed it. RWP, it's all bluster. They didn't even filibuster the supposed sexual predator Clarence Thomas. I double dog dare the liberals to successfully filibuster JRB. I call that bluff. They are full of hot air. American voters don't want a SCOTUS nominee filibustered. I don't think it even matters which party nominated the candidate to the general public. I haven't seen any poll to suggest that a SCOTUS filibuster by either party would be supported by the public.

Obviously you don't understand RONALD REAGAN'S 11TH COMMANDMENT at all...you had better do some more studying. Attacking your own party should ONLY be done in private or behind the scenes, NOT IN THE PUBLIC ARENA WHERE THE MEDIA CAN EXPLOIT!!!

The ability to air grievances and discuss them is a key difference between us and the Left, which brooks no dissent.

So, you think we did a GOOD job with that? Oh please, this place became a mine-field. I don't think we did ourselves proud at all with all the invective slinging goin on around here on this issue. Not at all.

What other agendas? As much as I think the anti-Miers folks were wrong to attack a nominee by our own party, I don't doubt for a second their desire for an originalist on the SCOTUS, in fact, that is what was driving their actions.

Exactly correct. It's the PRO-Miers people who are mindlessly interested only in the 'R' team scoring points against the 'D' team, without regard to ideology.

Thanks for the link.

I have not said a thing about this nomination, but when I heard Laura talking about this speech and another one this morning showing how Miers changes according to which audience she is speeking to, I think her withdrawing is the best thing.

Thank you! I voted for Reagan for Governor and President, still remember that election-night landslide like it was yesterday and wish we had another Reagan in the party today.
