ABCNEWS TELLS WHITE HOUSE OF 'INDICTMENT' Tue Oct 25 2005 19:08:02 ET
"We have double sourced that the vice president's chief of staff has been indicted," a reporter for ABCNEWS claimed to a White House press spokesman this afternoon.
The White House refused to comment on the claim. The network said they didn't need comment, they were preparing to run with the development on this evening's network news broadcast, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
ABCNEWS claimed to the White House that it had double sourced how an indictment against vice presidential chief of staff I. Lewis Libby was set.
A senior White House source quickly determined ABC was bluffing; the report did not run on the East coast feed of the program.
Developing...
UPDATE
ABC NEWS spokesman Jeff Schneider tells the DRUDGE REPORT: "There is nothing at all true about us having double sourced anything" regarding indictments.
More from Drudge:
CBS JOHN ROBERTS: Lawyers familiar with the case think Wednesday is when special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will make known his decision, and that there will be indictments. Supporters say Rove and the vice presidents chief of staff, Scooter Libby, are in legal jeopardy...
Another update from Drudge:
Indictments in CIA leak case about to be handed down
That's certainly possible. Maybe Drudge will explain what happened from his end of things.
Haughtiness in bearing and attitude; arrogance.
That describes Dowd to a T. But it's not the word I was thinking of. Maybe it doen't begin with a h.
LOL
Well, at least we know the prosecutor's office probably has no prostrate troubles, because they have lots of consistant leaking!
It starts with a w. It just sounds like an h.;)
Sounds like no one did. ABC was just making it up to rattle the White House.
"b"?
Could I get a large fry and a Coke with that indictment?
Kristol is incompetent and malevolent...a very dangerous combination.
One of the reasons I am so adamant that Miers get a hearing is Kristol's opposition to her. He has no principles; he just like to cause trouble in Republican ranks.
On a serious note, how can the CIA send a Lay person that doesn't even work for ANY part of our govt. on a mission and then not PAY him.
Oh please, please, oh please let it be so.
Rarely have I more thoroughly detested a reporter- Terry Moran is at the bottom of the slimy barrel.
To hell they are...
I know Tenet has alot of enemies around these parts, but I so respect the man. I am SO behind the whole 'nation building' that people seem around here seem to be touchy with.
Normally I wouldn't be, but in Iraq... a nation SMACK DAB in the middle of the ME... boardering Syria, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and close to "palistine"
For me, the whole Iraq war's MAIN justification was:
it was the place we had our 'best reasoning' to go into. We had very valid, very legal reasons for doing it (UN resoulutions ignored, Sadaam openly paying suicide bombers, the mass murders he committed, never abiding my most of the '91 agreements, etc). If you're cynical it was 'the best excuse' we had for planting and helping foster democracy in the ME.
As we all know Terrorism won't be elimited by simply killing all the exsiting ones dead. Though thats DEFINATLY part of it. Anyway democracy in Iraq by the Iraqis will achieve something that the USA with our IMMENISE miltary, technological, and social advantage could never force on people... and thats personal pride and accountablity for their country and their freedoms.
Anyway, I am STILL convinced, there will be MONUMENTS to GWB and American Soldiers in the MiddleEast within 40 years... and history will attribute the HUGE shift in the ME to the American Soldier who selflessly sacrificed for their country, an in effect for millions of Arabs.
Its something that would be IMPOSSIBLE without the Iraqi and people of the ME, but the American involvement is one hell'ov'a catalyst that will ultimiately save hundreds of thousdands of lives, and countless others from a pathetically limited existance.
I could be wrong.. time will tell.. but I am SUPREMELY confident.. espically after this past week, it will happen.
I want to know the reporter's name too : )
Very Clintonian denial.
Very Good Questions .. I sure would like to hear the answers
WOW! I didn't KNOW any of that stuff, but I just assumed it. Glad to know my woman's intuition is still intact!!
I think Maureen Dowd started that in her rant against Miller. From the New York Times [via truthout.org]:She described Miller with a word that means open to powerful men. I just can't remember what that word is...
Woman of Mass Destruction
By Maureen Dowd
The New York TimesSaturday 22 October 2005
I've always liked Judy Miller. I have often wondered what Waugh or Thackeray would have made of the Fourth Estate's Becky Sharp.
The traits she has that drive many reporters at The Times crazy - her tropism toward powerful men, her frantic intensity and her peculiar mixture of hard work and hauteur - never bothered me. I enjoy operatic types.
Once when I was covering the first Bush White House, I was in The Times' seat in the crowded White House press room, listening to an administration official's background briefing. Judy had moved on from her tempestuous tenure as a Washington editor to be a reporter based in New York, but she showed up at this national security affairs briefing.
At first she leaned against the wall near where I was sitting, but I noticed that she seemed agitated about something. Midway through the briefing, she came over and whispered to me, "I think I should be sitting in the Times seat."
It was such an outrageous move, I could only laugh. I got up and stood in the back of the room, while Judy claimed what she felt was her rightful power perch.
She never knew when to quit. That was her talent and her flaw. Sorely in need of a tight editorial leash, she was kept on no leash at all, and that has hurt this paper and its trust with readers. She more than earned her sobriquet "Miss Run Amok..."
Agree, not so much where this issue is concerned ... we will have to wait to see what happens in the next two days. However, the ineptness where Katrina was concerned and the Miers nomination to the SC ... a double whammy of stupidity ... especially when Laura implied anyone opposed to the Miers nomination was a sexist ... is beyond comphrension.
