ABCNEWS TELLS WHITE HOUSE OF 'INDICTMENT' Tue Oct 25 2005 19:08:02 ET

"We have double sourced that the vice president's chief of staff has been indicted," a reporter for ABCNEWS claimed to a White House press spokesman this afternoon.

The White House refused to comment on the claim. The network said they didn't need comment, they were preparing to run with the development on this evening's network news broadcast, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

ABCNEWS claimed to the White House that it had double sourced how an indictment against vice presidential chief of staff I. Lewis Libby was set.

A senior White House source quickly determined ABC was bluffing; the report did not run on the East coast feed of the program.

Developing...

UPDATE

ABC NEWS spokesman Jeff Schneider tells the DRUDGE REPORT: "There is nothing at all true about us having double sourced anything" regarding indictments.

More from Drudge:

CBS’ JOHN ROBERTS: Lawyers familiar with the case think Wednesday is when special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will make known his decision, and that there will be indictments. Supporters say Rove and the vice president’s chief of staff, Scooter Libby, are in legal jeopardy...

Another update from Drudge:

Indictments in CIA leak case ‘about to be handed down’

Looks like Drudge just pulled the headline. The ABC News story doesn't appear anywhere on his page now.

It just says "DC GUESSING GAME REACHES FEVER PITCH". The sub-page with the ABC News story is still available: http://www.drudgereport.com/flash5abc.htm

LOL... guess DRUDGE didn't want to look as stupid as ABC does... though I DO think it would be instructive to have it up there for all to see for a few hrs (if not only to research it and find it was bogus)

Can only hope Matt finds a story that talks about the fishing of ABC and how it got blew away for headline later.

You know Drudge... he may lean to the right, but his FIRST priority is hits, no matter the story.

Well, Ford's administration was short. I thought Hamilton Jordan got in some trouble in Carter's Administration. There was some trouble there, forget what it was.

Eisenhower had Sherman Adams; Kennedy the media protected; Johnson had Bobby Baker, Nixon, well; Reagan-Iran/Contra; Bush Sr. (I'm not sure); Clinton, well...

You changed channels before hearing Podesta say the WH hasn't learned anything out of all this. Instead of realizing the trouble they're in what do they do --attack, attack, attack. Kettle/black?

They've always had such amazing foresight...

How did Rove/Hughes know Kerry would run in 4 years and when did they know it!

I think Ken Starr settled for the one certain thing because there was evidence that had not been shredded and memories that had not been erased. (taped conversations and an unmistakable DNA deposit) You can bet Ken Starr would have gone nowhere with that one if all he had to rely on was Monica Lewinsky's testimony. Deny, deny, deny. It's hard to convict someone when all the witnesses sing the same tune. Or die.

Unfortunately, "settled" is the word... and because it was 24/7 for almost 2 years and ended up being a tawdry little affair, it was branded as a political witchhunt. And because the charges were about "perjury and obstruction" over the investigation, not any underlying crime itself, it set the precedent for prosecutors that "creating crime" in this fashion was a goal. Sen. Hutchinson bemoaned this (though she voted on the charges againt WJC anyway), but the precedent has been set.

Having said all that, WE STILL DON'T KNOW ANYTHING! The WH just needs to go about its business, and maybe Bush needs to be making some stronger statements about REAl issues - like immigration.

Dang...on Chrissy's show tonight he SAID that Cheney could come on TV tonight and tell everyone what went on, if he would tell the TRUTH!

Heard that; Tenet, too!

Now he's saying that Cheney DID sent Wilson to Niger.

"Now that it's down to the wire it's painfully obvious that the big media guys don't know any more than we do."

That would be a shame. For years we've heard about how Rove and Cheney and the "Bush cabal" are guilty as sin.

Of course, it would be typical to have this one blow up in their faces. Liberals are such ideological nutbags and fanatics, they're incapable of learning anything. They just ratchet up the idiot spew.
