Flight 93 Crescent of Embrace remains unchanged.

Despite the outrage of the American public over the planned memorial to those who lost their lives fighting terrorists who hijacked their plane on 9/11/2001, the Flight 93 Memorial does not appear to have changed. The “Crescent of Embrace” design still remains on winning architect Paul Murdoch’s site, as well as the official Flight 93 Memorial site. On neither of these sites is any change mentioned or shown to the original design. Murdoch’s site does not indicate that any changes or “refinements” will be forthcoming. To refresh memories, the problem with the design was and is the Islamic crescent symbol. The memorial to the American citizens who appear to have thwarted Islamic terrorists from completing their plan to crash the commercial airliner into the White House deteriorated into a memorial to the terrorists—not to those who tried to stop them. Far beyond a slap in the face to the United States, American citizens who died protecting their country are being marginalized. Instead, it is the terrorists who are being commemorated. The totality of this abomination is staggering.

To be fair, I again contacted Chris Martin—Public Relations contact for the memorial project—to determine why there was nothing included on the official Flight 93 Memorial site, as to any change in the memorial’s design. My direct question was “Nothing seems to have changed nor is there any indication that the memorial will differ from [its] original design. Do you have any information or comments on this?” Mr. Martin’s response was: “The refinement process is still underway. The designer and the partner organizations are working together to refine various portions of the 2,200 acre site. We anticipate an announcement regarding these various refinements in the coming weeks.” Conspicuously absent from Martin’s response is any indication of the replacement of the “Crescent of Embrace”. This patently begs the question: “What are they refining?”

Perhaps I’ve just become too jaded over the years. But, trusting ambiguous answers to rather straightforward questions no longer seems the best course to follow. Also, the original National Forest Service (NFS) contact, Joanne Hanley, doesn’t appear to be listed anywhere—anymore. Note: In September, you flooded her email-box to the point that it was inoperable. Good show!

In fact, there does not appear to be anyone currently identified by the NFS, who is in charge of the project from the government’s end. My guess is that they don’t want to again receive thousands of emails and phone calls similar to those they received last month. However, below is a link to the NFS’ main contact site. To give all involved the benefit of the doubt, perhaps the design will change. But, in order to keep their feet to the fire and better ensure the Islamic crescent isn’t used my strong suggestion is that as many of us as possible call and write them, to inform the caretakers of this very important project that we haven’t forgotten.

We also need to powerfully and consistently let them know that we’re still watching and that we will not accept any “honors” to the ones who attacked us. Doing so would be both appalling to those who died and a strong indication to the terrorists that we believe they were right. Neither of these is even remotely acceptable.

Taken from a blog, so all cautions apply.

However, if this is true, it is absolutely outrageous. We already know the architect in this mess absolutely refuses to see how his monument to the terrorists is a problem, and remains strongly committed to his "reconciliation" statement.

This bears watching very, very closely. We should not lose focus on this issue.

Well, they were "embraced by the Crescent!"

Fund raising for this would be a disaster.

The problem with western culture is that it has been so diluted and manipulated by leftists that we do all we can to embrace and adore those that want to kill us.

After the 9/11 attacks, President Bush kept saying Islam is a religion of piece, and we aren't at war with Islam, etc. What if FDR had said after Pearl Harbor that Shinto is a religion of peace, or NAziism a peaceful ideology, and we weren't at war with Shinto or Naziism?

We stand a chance of losing this war until we realize we are at war with radical Islam.

I for one am sick to death of this issue, the enormous amounts given to victims, the incessant whining and on and on. All this attention and money yet the WWII memorial required PRIVATE funding and took almost 60 years to emerge from the inattention it received. /rant

Flight 93 Crescent memorial profanity ALERT!

"Let's Roll!", and get all the big PING lists in FReepdom involved in this one.

Send this mockery of a memorial down in flames - like the plane itself went down!

The WTC "freedom tower" insult died at the hands of Governor Pataki - after he heard from his constituents loudly and clearly.

It is equally important that this reprehensible parade of pseudo-artistic effrontery be exposed and vilified under full glare of the public spotlight.

From the architect's website:

PHILOSOPHY

“A primary task of this generation is to create new patterns of development that sustain human habitation on this planet. Towards this end, the principles adopted for our practice are intended to ensure that each project contributes to an overall goal of environmental responsibility while striving for design excellence.

As architects, we are uniquely qualified to help formulate and translate policy into tangible form; mitigating pressures of urbanity with the need to heal the natural environment. Each design solution is seen as a contribution to the human condition; as it exists today and evolves into future generations.

Our goal is to define and study problems both in terms of clients’ direct needs and relative to long term effects on natural and man made surroundings. More than problem solving however, we aspire to emotionally affect and uplift our lives through poetry and beauty.

It is through these transcendent qualities that we optimistically strive for ways to enrich life and fulfill our original purpose for engaging in the practice of architecture.”

They picked the wrong designer I think. Should be less focused on contributing to the human condition and a little more in tribute.

maybe its just my cantankerous self, but if a relative of one of the murdered ones were to blow this abonimation up, if i was on the jury, i could not convict him. on a collective level, i am so ashamed at what the forefathers of this nation would think of us if they were here today.

Perhaps buying up land near there and creating an informational center that shows the meaning of the red crescent...or heck, billboards that inform people traveling there what the red crescent means...is the way to go. Visitors would be reminded not to honor the perpetrators, but to really remember who and what they were. That is, turn the whole "red crescent" idea against the architect.

Cantankerous? You and me both. I don't know anyone nor am I related to anyone who was on Flt. 93 and my first thought was to blow it up. I hope I get you on my jury.

We stand a chance of losing this war until we realize we are at war with radical Islam.

Actually, we are war with Islam, in its pure and undiluted form (not "radical Islam"). Islam itself is radical. And remember, we are at war with it ONLY because it has declared war on us. Every muslim may not be the enemy, but Islam declared war on all other religions 1,400 years ago.

Anyone that says, "there is no god by Allah" refuses to allow you the freedom to believe otherwise.

That is probably right. It depends very much on which side of the PC divide you give you life. After 911 it was apostasy to suggest withholding of every form of sympathy and support for this specific group of victims - Most notably in the lavishing of enormous amounts of money to each family. Meanwhile, the DOD goes after amputees of the War for $650 in combat pay overpayment.

911 set a number of very unhealthy and unfair precedents and it was all done by spineless PC Pols who would not say NO to any of these outlandish arrangements. This 'Memorial' and the endless BS associated with it is just a continuation of that flawed process IMHO.
