The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department. The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State. After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.
I am almost sure when I was reading the first reports they said there was A SECONDARY explosion. Now they are just saying the bomb squad detonated something to see if it contained a bomb.
The media sucks. They either get it wrong when they first report, like death toll will reach 10,000 after Katrina, or they try to cover up the truth that is first reported, (Drudge) like Clinton gets BJ from Monika Lewinsky.
I am thankful we have FreeRepublic with on the scene reports. Keep us posted on what you find out and let us know when you have pictures.
"Haven't you been reading the thread?"
Starting at post 1000 or 2000? Hey if you don't want to tell me, fine. c-ya.
*snicker*
LOL!!! This whole incident is really strange. I still haven't figured out why the FBI is in charge and a criminal investigation is ongoing if they believe it was a lone individual.
Maybe he was a tortured engineering geek who wanted to blow up the football team as they were going to their buses.
The name is Joel Hinrichs a 21 year old engineering student, member of the Triangle fraternity.
Rumsfeld's Law - the first reports are usually wrong.
I didn't see anything that said they got a secondary explosion, but I have also been freeping between other household tasks, so I could have easily missed it. I'm pretty sure, on the other hand, that at least one of what I read said they did not get a secondary, or rather implied it. If you happen to remember where you read that, let me know, please? Thanks!
Maybe a case of better safe than sorry? It could well have been ism so that's why they are going to town with the investigation. Plus, after Katrina, the feds are going to make sure they are first in so they can't be accused of not caring.
Seems natural to me as an suicide bombing could have homeland implications.
What is the source of this information?
I am sitting here in shock at the mention of car bombs. This larger than one nutcase if you ask me.
The FBI just wants to cover all the bases to make sure. Mistakes are potentially very costly. Better to err on the side of caution.
OU President Boren announced it.
Maybe the car part is a remnent of some false report. Sounds like the info was flying fast and furious. Or maybe not. Not too reassuring, I know!
MIGHT have something to do with the trashing the local crime lab's reputation a few years ago, doncha think?

Know many engineers? Some are nut cases.
Did you read the latest -- bomb squad folks are on the way to two apartment complexes for suspected car bombs that was just posted at 2699.
