A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Even though it probably still feels like summer, fall is upon us - for tomorrow is the first day of Autumn. September 22nd marks the 2005 autumnal equinox, when night and day are of equal length.
Ready or not, the sun will be setting earlier and the days will become shorter. Sadly for some of us and happily for others, it's time to say goodbye to summer. Crisp mornings, autumn leaves, and frosty pumpkins are right around the corner. |
For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad. - Edwin Way Teale
And, for sports fans, it's time for...

Thanks, Mama_Bear:
I see my neighbors raking leaves
Often wondering if their brains have seives
Falling leaves is just part of God's Circle of Life
Certainly not made for lower lumbar aches with rakes
Leave them be, for Heaven's sake
They're made to decompose and fill your life with strife
A russet carpet above the soil
Replenishes it naturally, without sweat and toil
Raked piles of leaves, like winter Snow Men
Are for children a seasonal omen
That always bring an innocent, beauteous smile
So let the kids have at it and make a pile
So you may savor the moment all the while!

BTW.....What make of computer did you get Billie, need details. :) Well, it was kind of a spur of the moment purchase, though I've been *thinking* about it for a long time and have been saving and reading about different features from all the extra flyers and ads stuffed in our Sunday paper from Best Buy and other electronic stores. Knew when I was ready, I'd just go buy it and not wait to order a Dell. I was pretty sure I wanted a Gateway of some kind.
Okay, I went to Best Buy and picked a Gateway that they had been promoting. It's a Gateway: WindowsXP Media Center Edition 2005, Pentium D Processor (which is newer than a Pentium 4), 250 GB harddrive, 1 GB DDR RAM memory, CD/DVD burner, 17" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor, and color printer. (I didn't need the printer, but it came with the package - I already have a laser printer and a much better color printer). And one of the really neat things about it is that it has a memory card reader for my digital camera on the front. (I had to 'connect' my camera itself to upload pics to the old pc, and it was slower than Christmas transferring them!) This is instant pictures. :)
Aqua and dutchess, I DID get my Adobe PhotoDeluxe (that is NOT compatible with XP!) installed and it is working fine! That, as you know, was one of the main things that kept me tied to Windows 98SE.
I also had to use the Compatibality Wizard that is located in Programs/Accessories to install Gif Construction Set, because it wasn't compatible with XP without it either.
I'm likin' it, sistahs. I don't have to wait forever for pictures to open! :)

He is the 'true' guru. : ) Oh, man....now you've done it. That last thing I wanted was for him to know that he is a "computer guru", and, worse yet the 'TRUE' guru. I'll never hear the end of it! LOL

Am just glad that you have WindowsXP now, wouldn't you like to have all that time that it took to open those pictures back?
It's nice to have a back up printer. We still need to get a scanner, M brought one home from the Goodwill store (paid 5 bucks) and it didn't work naturally.

Thanks, Dolly and Mrs. Nooseman.
I have sugar maple in the corner of my front yard. The leaves are a goregeous dark flame red. Plan on photographing it an a wide lily pond nearby this weekend.
Jack.

Hi Billie. Sounds like you have about the same weather that we do....hot and dry during the summer. Sure doesn't seem like autumn here, except the nights are getting just a bit cooler.
Getting a new computer is so much fun! I am excited for you, and Dolly especially, since I know what fits her old computer was giving her. *sigh*, I never get an entirely new computer. My system gets upgraded bits and pieces at a time when I get the "hand-me-down" parts from JK's computer. I'm not complaining though. His computer has to be cutting edge and is constantly being upgraded, so I am right behind him.
I need to leave for a bit. Hope to get back here shortly so I don't get too far behind with my pings.
Sistah hugs!

Love your poem. We don't rake our leaves. It makes a perfect "blanket" for our St. Augustine grass over the winter months. Then, voila! They are gone by spring!
