More surprises from Alan Dershowitz.
As I posted yesterday, in comments on Court TV, Dershowitz made clear he believes Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and that the right of privacy does not extend to abortion.
Today, Dershowitz offered up these two comments:
1. He would like W to nominate GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah to the Supreme Court, calling Hatch "a true conservative and not a statist."
2. He was been very impressed by Roberts' testimony and thinks that he is also a true conservative, which he meant as a compliment.
Interesting, no?
"I think Bush should have gotten back at the libs by nominating Mark Levin for Chief Justice."
Agreed. And Ann Coulter for S.D. O'Connor's spot.
Yeah, I wonder if Hatch might not go the way of Anthony Kennedy if put on the High Court.
My guess would be that President Bush wants to nominate someone younger than Orrin Hatch.
That said, it sure would be interesting if he was nominated. You would surely see some of his democrat colleagues vote for him out of respect. OTOH I will bet that some still have not forgiven him for his aggressive defense of Clarence Thomas. So it would bring back all those bad memories.
I stopped caring what Dershowitz says one way or the other a long, long time ago...not sure I ever did, now that I think about it.
Hatch? Nope. Not the right "demographics". Just doesn't feel right. He's too much part of the Washington machine.
Yeah right. Even Orrin Hatch is a liberal? Come on...
You obviously haven't been paying attention.
He's trying to compensate for his "thug" comment on Rhenquist.
i think we know where he pulled Hatch out of.
Fair enough. Still, I was shocked to hear his criticism of Roe yesterday.
Dersh has been on record opposing Roe for some time now.
I like Ann, but she took herself out of contention with her column attacking John Roberts.
Don't trust Hatch...haven't for years and now he's my senator...
I have been dubious about Roberts because I don't know enough about him to make a decision and I don't like conservatives all lining up (as usual) on faith. If Dershowitz has anything good to say about him, that settles it for me too. I agree with you - Dump him.
Don't ever forget that Hatch is still an opportunist politician.
Don't settle for anything to the left of Scalia or Thomas.
I, for one, like Janice Rogers Brown. Libs would have a fit if W nominated the first black female to the SCOTUS. They would also have little, if any, political room to wiggle.
Haha, that's great, Levin would be wonderful.
When I first heard of the vacancy my evil twin kicked in and I thought "hey, nominate Bork", it'll cause all their heads to blow up.
Maybe Ann was right about John Roberts. I don't know. She is right in that we don't know a whole lot about him, and she is more conservative than Pres. Bush is. I trust her discernment more. I guess time will tell about J.R. Should be interesting
I think it's the grand liberal scheme. Ask a few tough questions and let Roberts pass easily to the high court. Show that they can support a conservative. Cover for when they try to block the next nominee with all their ammo.
