Halted gun sales infuriate customers
The Boston Globe ^ | September 11, 2005 | Sasha Talcott

BATON ROUGE, La. -- As fearful residents rush to stock up on guns, Wal-Mart, one of the region's biggest suppliers, abruptly stopped selling them at 40 stores scattered throughout the Gulf Coast.

-snip-

Wal-Mart's decision to stop gun sales also earned it praise from several customers, who said police would protect them from any trouble.

''Why can't we get along? This is a time of crisis," said Mike White of Kenner, La. He said people who need guns for legitimate reasons, such as hunting, would not be buying now.

Why buy them if the government is just going to pick them up and pull you out of your house??

1. Walmart may simply just be out of guns. This is the Globe reporting, and people *have* been buying a *lot* of guns.
2. If someone *did* decide to stop gun sales in those stores, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the top management, who have been staunch 2nd Amendment supporters. I suspect that this alleged decision would result in a number of managers looking for new jobs.

Self defense isn't a legitimate reason? Hell, I like hunting and all, but self defense is far more legitimate than hunting because you're defending your life versus bludgeoning animals.

who said police would protect them from any trouble.

Yes, they do such a good job during normal times so I'm sure they will do even better now.

Fool.

Since when is protection not a legitimate reason?

You should read the entire article. This is a company decision. And no, they are not out of stock.

'Why can't we get along? This is a time of crisis"

Yeah, say that to the machete-wielding looter who's breaking into your house. Some people are way too naive to be let loose in public.

"police would protect them from any trouble."

Darwin is laughing. In most cases, the police will show up just in time to draw chalk around your dead body.

And anyone who thinks the 2nd Ammendment is about hunting deserves to be gang-raped by thugs.

You are responsible for your safety until the arrival of Law Enforcement Officers

At which point they will either disarm you or disarm you and arrest you and ship you off to a 2.5X6 foot cot.

Muchos gracias Alberto Gonzales.

My guess is Alberto Gonzales had something to do with this, and Wal-Mart's record on the Second Amendment is hardly a sterling one anyway.

They are far better at peddling cheap foreign goods, made in Red China with slave labor, than with defending the rights of Americans.

Executives ordered the guns removed from their glass display cases and put into a vault instead.

You read it here first!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1478849/posts?page=12#12

Excerpt: "...they should have done a better job securing those when they closed for the storm. No more wire cages, perhaps a vault-type device would be more appropriate."

What the hell does he know? I'm not a goose hunter but I do think we have an early goose season coming up real soon here in Michigan. I assume Louisiana is the same as Michigan in the fact that some critters are open season year round.
