Byron York of The National Review had a great article yesterday about the devolution of the MoveOn Katrina Victims protest at the White House.
Dana Milbank of the Washington Post also wrote about MoveOn's troubled demonstration.
However, apparently both these fine observers of the scene had departed when the worst part of the MoveOn protest happened.
As Angelwood and I stood talking and debating with malingering MoveOn protesters, a man standing about twenty or thirty feet away from us was giving an interview with an independent D.C. journalist.
I recognized the man as a long time liberal activist from Florida whom we had first met during the build up to the impeachment of President Clinton.
Then, he was defending Bill Clinton, now he's trying to draft his wife Hillary to run for president herself.
It took a while for the man's name to come to mind. It was Bob...something.
As he was giving the interview, the man became agitated and started speaking in a loud voice. He welled up into a tirade and blurted out, "FReepers should be shot!"
I was looking at him as he said this, as his loud voice was naturally drawing the attention of those within ever-growing earshot as his decibel level grew.
Knowing he was out on the political hustings and has been on TV shows and been quoted many times in the press, I asked him if he had just said that we (Freepers) should be shot . I thought maybe he'd take it back and try to excuse himself for being so worked up.
But no, he responded, "Yes, you should be shot!"
He walked away after that. The police did nothing.
Angelwood and I left soon after. The man's name finally came to me. Bob Kunst, president of Hillary Now.
I suppose he's lucky the TV cameras were long gone by then. But there is an audiotape. There was a microphone right in his face when he yelled out, "Freepers should be shot!"
We're gittin' there. Seriously, I do believe that this is a possibility, maybe even a probability. I wasn't there for the Civil War, but I can't see how it could have been much more polarized then than now, and it is still getting worse. But please remember, the liberal Dems kill their babies, and they hate guns.
The National Review article is awesome -- a lone FReeper (Kristinn) smacking down a horde of angry leftists, with tact and graceful eloquence.
As to Mr. Kunstler, please tread carefully, after due consideration of all options.
Good luck.
I know. That's why I explicitly asked people not to bother him. The letter explains his politics and self-importance rather well. I feel sorry for the person who wades through to the end of it.
Same guy.
All revolutions attack their own government first, than the rest of the population gets involved.
All right, I'll say it:
With what? SPITBALLS???!?
True enough, but the liberals doing the iconizing aren't twentieith century Cubans...
I see no reason to believe their chances of getting real traction in twenty-first century America are any better than they ever were in the past...do you?
If only he had sense enough to toss it off like that. Unfortunately, the guy was serious.
Well, then, not to worry.
Senator Clinton will undoubtedly take care of him in her own unique way once this hits the fan...
Maybe I missed something but I thought lefties were antigun?
Oral Majority's Bob Kunst with Lou Posner of Voter March and with Bob Fertig of Democrats.Com
On May 19, 2000, Kunst explained, Voter March is conducting a White House protest at which Kunst has been invited to speak. Mr. Bush, he says, will be called upon to resign. Others who march will pass the Justice Department, demanding an investigation into the disenfranchisement of Florida's voters. They will then join with other groups at the U.S. Capitol and they will denigrate Democratic politicians' unseemly silence following the illegal appointment of Bush as president by the Supreme Court. Finally, he explained, the Supreme Court itself will be protested for having appointed George W. Bush president.
While in New York City, Kunst related, we also formed a chapter to focus weekly protests in Times Square to condemn the 'cover up' by New York Times, CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX with outreach to Broadway and the tourists.
And the Good Lord, in His infinite wisdom, saw fit to not have me anywhere near that vicinity...for I, being the unruly little so-and-so that I am, would have surely replied with equal fury, "How the hell are you going to do that, jackass? We're the only ones with the guns!"
...and the headlines tomorrow would have read, "Crazed Bush Supporter Threatens Violence Against Peaceful Demonstrators."
Son of Alfred E. Newman.
Remember Abu Ghraib?
Just one of the traits they share with the Islamofascists who also wish to destroy our society.
Nah. Not at all. They're just pro-fascism. They just don't want us "unwashed masses" to have any guns.
Just like the Nazis of the 1930s...
Not always. Kunst seems to be a sort of Maoist.
