Did Blanco attempt genocide at Superdome?
Ramblings' Journal ^ | 9.7.05 | Michael King

Posted on 09/07/2005 8:08:10 PM PDT by mhking

The Red Cross has confirmed to Fox News Channel's Major Garrett that they had requested permission to take food and medical supplies to the Louisiana Superdome in the hours immediately after Hurricane Katrina's landfall. That request was denied by none other than Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco.

Garrett appeared on Hugh Hewitt's syndicated radio program this evening to discuss the shocking revelation.

MG: Well, the Red Cross, Hugh, had pre-positioned a literal vanguard of trucks with water, food, blankets and hygiene items. They're not really big into medical response items, but those are the three biggies that we saw people at the New Orleans Superdom, and the convention center, needing most accutely. And all of us in America, I think, reasonably asked ourselves, geez. You know, I watch hurricanes all the time. And I see correspondents standing among rubble and refugees and evacuaees. But I always either see that Red Cross or Salvation Army truck nearby. Why don't I see that?

HH: And the answer is?

MG: The answer is the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security, that is the state agency responsible for that state's homeland security, told the Red Cross explicitly, you cannot come.

HH: Now Major Garrett, on what day did they block the delivery? Do you know specifically?

MG: I am told by the Red Cross, immediately after the storm passed.

The Louisiana Department of Homeland Security is directly under the command and direction of Governor Kathleen Blanco. The same Kathleen Blanco who has whined and blamed the federal government from her perch in Baton Rouge throughout this entire crisis. The same Kathleen Blanco who has stared at cameras with deer-in-headlight-glazed eyes since Hurricane Katrina made landfall. The same Kathleen Blanco who, after being asked about federal help prior to landfall said, "No." The same Kathleen Blanco who rescinded Mayor Ray Nagin's order to completely evacuate the city due to dangerous conditions just today.

Was Kathleen Blanco's goal the death of as many of those in the Superdome as possible?

>>I know, but I'm reaching -- on purpose -- to see if I'm tilting at windmills here, or if there was perhaps something more nefarious going on.

I don't believe it was genocide, or at least I have no evidence that it was...but this woman is obviously trying to hide something.

Then I said I thought the administration in LA was herding the poor, sick, homeless, drug addicts and disabled into the Superdoom, (again, not a typo), to kill them so they didn't have to support them

This is probably the stupiest comment I've even seen at Free Republic. Democrat 101 - you need poor working class voters to be elected and you don't achieve this by killing them. Sheesh.

Why would she do this?

That's what I want to know.

Seems to me the answer is one of 2 things neither of which is very flattering: 1) gross incompetence 2)political gamesmanship to try and make Bush look bad. (Or some combination of the two)

Good Points, But why is it Bush's fault?

The MSM sees this suffering as just another opportunity to pummel Bush. To hell with the facts, lets get that Zombie Nancy Pelosi front and center and call the President names, Then get Howard Dean to say that race influenced the response.

None of this shit is refuted and not even FOX News is doing enough to shoot this garbage down

I wonder how many shelters she opened up before Katrina made landfall, shelters that Nagin could have theoretically sent his evacuees to rather than to the Superdome and Convention Center. I rather suspect that it was VERY few.

She appears to be a crooked corrupt official that should be prosecuted for dereliction of duty. She's a racist...since N.O. has lots of a poor population...I think she intentionally wanted this population dead. She a high minded snob thinking she's better than others.

I saw her daughters 3 of them in Houston on Monday with crocodile tears...they looked like low lifes to me without any class. You can have lots of money but when your from a seedy family...it will always show through.

I agree that she is beyond incompetent & a buffoon.

But if the levee's hadn't been breached, they would have left.......no?

I don't get it at all. Refusing the Red Cross entry is beyond belief.

I have always questioned that a direct hit from Katrina on NOLA probably would have torn the Superdome apart.

It's a bit of a stretch if you think about it rationally (which is how most conservatives would consider it). However, this piece is very good at turning some of the liberals' arguments back around on them.

Some liberals are claiming that President Bush intentionally neglected to aid the city of New Orleans in a timely manner out of racism. A caller to Rush Limbaugh yesterday afternoon actually stated that he thought the President wanted as many black people to die as possible. So let's turn this around and consider the following:

Governor Blanco would not allow the Red Cross to provide the basic necessities of life to evacuees inside the Superdome. And based on the simple fact that New Orleans is populated mostly by black Americans, and that we hear so much about the people who couldn't leave NO being poor and mostly black, it's pretty safe to assume that the majority of evacuees in the Superdome were black. Now, using the logic that has been applied in arguments against the President by folks such as Howard Dean, one could easily say that Blanco was trying to kill the poor black residents of New Orleans. Genocide, indeed.

It sounds kooky, yes. But in stretching, you also illustrate how far the Democrats are reaching for political fodder.

So much for the Democrats being the benefactors of minorities, huh?

SEE WHAT THE RED CROSS SAYS ON THEIR WEB SITE:

Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?

Access to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard* and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

The STATE Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

I posted on another thread (with tin foil hat on) that maybe they were afraid if these really poor people were bussed out of the city, they might never come back - and for whatever reasons - political and/or financial they didn't want to do this.

A Cat 5 hurricane is headed your way and you live in a bowl shaped city below sea level. You choose NOT to implement your evacuation plan. When else would you ever use it if not for that time? Something is going on. I just don't know what.

Democrats, see the poor just like the Communists did, as a tool used to gain power, and then to be discarded once they get that power.

Major Garrett said the Red Cross was told they didn't want to attract more people to the stadium.

You need to go to Fox and watch the interview. It'll knock your socks off.

I see you aren't familiar with the very large deceased constituency, who somehow end up voting Democrat every election.
