U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

Or maybe, instead of standing outside like idiots blowing in the wind for 48 hours waiting anxiously for the eye to hit New Orleans, they could have taken their cameras and crew, drove through the neighborhoods with a bull horn and warned people to get out.

we need to take the corrupt LA and NO political machines out of the rebuilding effort

Feds are picking up 100% of rebuilding tab for NO. Someone posted that keeps the locals from controlling the contracts and thus does what you, correctly, want.

Slidell is in St. Tammany parish and they have catastrophic damage.
Mandeville and Covington were better off.
I found this on the St. Tammany webpage.
http://www.stpsb.org/

While we are readying our schools to reopen and essential services are being restored in our parish, we know a substantial number of you will be living outside St Tammany. Until our students return, we recommend that parents enroll students in schools where they are temporarily residing, if possible. In addition, we hope parents will encourage and help students study in current locations.

I've said this before, but it bears repeating. Before the levee was breached nobody in TV land was really portraying the scope of the disaster. I remember vividly, last Monday, watching Brit do a 'normal' 6pm show, and thinking - they just don't comprehend what has happened to the whole Gulf Coast because it is just not territory that they think very much about ever. After 9/11 all programming, including commercials, except for coverage of the horror stopped for at least 3 days.

Last monday was practically business as usual.
Why: the devastation was so great, there was no video from Mississippi or Alabama, and no ability to 'see' the big picture. And now they all pile on because Mike Brown isn't Superman.

Heard that over the scanner a while back. Place called "We Got It"? If so, the owner is inside, barricaded against looters, and his wife requested that someone go get him and persuade him to leave the place and come home.

I wonder if he is alive. I guess one would loose his life in drowning and/or put another's life in jeopardy guarding his neighborhood store.

The rescuer has now gone from dropping the basket waiting for the guy to come out, to landing on the roof himself, and now he has had to get off into the water and bang on the door.

Gee. If she thinks moving from LA to L.A. will rid her life of vandals and gunfire, she might be in for a rude awakening.

Someone half-jokingly commented that we needed another medium-sized city in East Texas, so we should just build one there and give it to the refugees.

iamgine this scene - Gingrich and OReilly arguing, OReilly saying people need to be more self sufficient - Gingrich saying government can be the "nanny" in incidents like this.

Many thanks to all freepers, especially Admin Moderator, NautiNurse, Howlin, Pukin Dog, and others too numerous to mention. Your posts have been a lifeline of hope, sanity and humor during this ordeal.

I need to make a fine distinction here.

I have no objection to New Orleans being rebuilt. My point is that clearly some, mostly in the media and local government are unhappy with the Federal effort that has been put into that so far.

If they feel we are just in the way, that they can do a much better job, I say, "By all means then, tear it up. Give me a call when you finish and maybe I'll take in a Mardi Gras and some jazz. SEEya."

I'm thinking about holding out for an apology. I really want to see Russert, Blanco and Nagin grovel a bit.

...ok, a LOT.

Well, and many of these kids are being welcomed into the Dallas schools tomorrow. The thought process up here is to get them into their seats, and get documentation and immunization paperwork down the road. I'm glad mine are in a private school.

Jessie Jackson make another statement that the Red Cross was told by the State not to go into New Orleans.

That one is true. Go here: American Red Cross Katrina FAQ

The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

I hear Oprah was at the Astrodome today. Pray tell, did she bring money, food, books, etc?

Ah, that must be why Gov. Blank-o wanted to get herself to Houston today. She wanted some fun face time and photo ops with Oprah.

Instead, she had to stay at home and then admit she didn't know the President was coming back already. Was she the only person in America who didn't know that?

Those with such infections have all presented already, and Dallas is going to go ahead and vaccinate them before they enter the classrooms.

Sweetheart I've been to NO many times.

Have met many people both poor and rich in the city.

You need to go back and read some of my prior postings and then read this post in that context.

I make no assumptions and do not apologize for taking shots at Jessie, Big Al, NAACP and Congressional Black Congress and liberal race baiting enablers.

So far all I have heard out of these people are promises and nothing more.

Unless you missed the big news conference these turkeys are making statements intimating that our American government intentionally killed thousands of our citizens based simply on skin color.

I liken that to being called a low life Nazi or worse.
